Fairbourne Railway
Previously a horse-drawn tramway, Fairbourne Railway has a rich and interesting history dating back to the 19th century. In 1916, the railway was converted to a 15-inch gauge steam railway, influencing the development of similar railways across the UK.
Since 2009, the railway has been under the ownership of a charitable body, ensuring it is preserved for locals and visitors for years to come. Thanks to the Fairbourne Railway Preservation Society, the railway is thriving and attracts many visitors every year.
Passengers can enjoy a steam train ride before alighting and hopping aboard the Barmouth Ferry which boasts fantastic views of the Afon Mawddach Estuary.
Beautiful sights and more await on the Fairbourne Railway…
