This delightful 2.2km walk through Belfast Castle Estate is perfect for those looking for a leisurely stroll through woodland and parkland.

Trail Highlights:

Belfast Castle: Built in the 19th century, this spectacular castle lies on the slopes of Cave Hill. Built in the Scottish Baronial style, guests can now tour the castle! It is even a popular wedding venue.

Cave Hill: A rocky hill that stands 386 metres high and is part of the Belfast hills. From its peak the whole of Belfast can be seen as well as the Isle of Man and Scotland when the sky is clear.

Directions

  1. Begin in Belfast Car Park 3, just next to Belfast Castle, and follow the blue route named the Estate Trail.
  2. Head down the hill and turn left in front of the castle before turning right past the Adventurous Playground and the car park here.
  3. The main driveway will then veer to the right and you can take the smaller path on the left which leads uphill.
  4. Pass the rear of the Millennium Maze and join another tarmac driveway, then head left and follow the driveway as it meanders up the hill.
  5. When the driveway begins to veer left take the gravel path to your right and stay right of the next junction. This will bring you to the Volunteer’s Well on your left with a babbling stream on your right.
  6. When you reach the well, continue uphill before taking the second path on your left to begin to journey back towards the castle.
  7. Keep right at the next two junctions, you should be able to catch glimpses of the city between the trees.
  8. Continue on this path for some distance, it then doubles back on itself and joins the main driveway.
  9. Turn right and follow the path until you are met with the main gates to the park.
  10. Be careful of the traffic on the road before crossing to reach the footpath a head which leads back up the hill to the car park.
