Directions
1. Starting Point: Start at the parking layby, and find the wooden gate to enter Lathkill Dale. Follow the path through pastures and gates.
2. Dale Descent: Take the left footpath down into the dale, where cliffs enclose the path. Be cautious of high nettles in summer.
3. Cave Exploration: Cross a stone stile, enjoy stunning views, and head towards a big cave on the right. Explore in summer when the River Lathkill may be dry.
4. Waterfall Journey: Continue along the path for 1.5km until you reach the waterfall. Note that in summer, the waterfall may not be in full flow.
5. Steep Ascent: Follow the path a bit further down (about 300m), then climb a steep but short hill to a wooden gate at the top.
6. Through Mills Farm: Go through the gate, turn right, and pass through Mills Farm. The gradient levels out.
7. Lane and Turn Right: Take the path to the right of the campsite, leading to a quiet lane. Follow this lane for 300m, then turn right and continue for another 150m to a stone stile on your left.
8. Stone Stile Traverse: Climb over the stile, cross two fields to the next stone stile, and take the footpath slightly to the right.
9. Field Crossing and Climb: Follow footpath signs across fields (seven stone stiles) to the road. There’s a bit of a climb in the last field.
10. Road Descent: When you reach the road, turn left and walk downhill for 500m to return to your car. Be cautious of traffic and keep hold of little ones’ hands. Sections with grass verges are available if needed.
