The Hippodrome Circus
Located in the popular resort town of Great Yarmouth is where you will find the renowned Hippodrome Circus. Set within Britain’s last remaining complete circus building, the circus was originally built and brought to life in 1903 by legendary showman, George Gilbert.
The Hippodrome Circus is set within a unique building, boasting historic architecture and a domed roof which was originally designed in that way to house a water spectacular. Many stars have graced the Hippodrome Circus’ stage, including Charlie Chaplin and Tommy Steele before they went onto find fame.
Over the years the Hippodrome Circus has become increasingly popular with its variety shows offering everything from comedy and magic to traditional circus acts of acrobats, jugglers, and ariel arts. It has been dubbed as ‘One of the seven wonders of the British seaside’ and must-visit when staying in Great Yarmouth.
The Jay family purchased the Hippodrome Circus in 1979 and continue to run award-winning Circus Spectaculars four times a year. The family were responsible for bringing back one of the Hippodrome Circus’s unique and sought-after acts, the water spectacular.
