Alnwick Castle is perfect for those interested in heritage and architecture. Since the 13th century, this Norman fortress has been the seat of the Percy Family and today is the second-largest inhabited castle in the UK. After exploring the castle, spend the afternoon exploring Alnwick Garden. Gaze at the Grand Cascade, which boasts 120 water jets before refuelling at The Treehouse Restaurant, set amidst lime trees and 18 meters above the ground.
Whilst in Alnwick, be sure to visit the nearby Dunstanburgh Castle. This 14th-century fortification is steeped in history, falling to ruin after the War of the Roses.
Another popular thing to do in Alnwick is the Baliffgate Museum, dedicated to the history of the town and local district. Come evening, head to The Alnwick Playhouse, perfect for lovers of theatre and production and has been since 1925.
