The Pen-Y-Gwryd Hotel is located in Snowdonia, North Wales, and has a long history as a typical mountaineer’s hotel and restaurant in the UK.
Pen-Y-Gwryd
This 1810 inn has been owned by the same family since 1947. Among its mountaineering connections are memorabilia from the 1953 Everest expedition that trained there. A prime example of this type of design is the log-lined Everest Room, established by John Hunt in the early 1950s. Several members of the 1953 Everest team signed the ceiling, as did actor Anthony Hopkins.
The original Smoke Room has been turned into a bar for residents and non-residents alike. A residents’ lounge and games room with pool and table tennis are also available, whilst a family chapel was built in 2000 on the site of the old public restrooms.
Pen-Y-Gwryd is the perfect North Wales restaurant to enjoy lovely food in a historic atmosphere…
