Getting to Keswick by road
Part of Keswick’s popularity is down to its easy accessibility. The town’s location, close to the M6 motorway, means that it is easily accessible from most major UK cities. Leave the M6 at Junction 40, signed for Penrith and follow the A66 westbound.
You will pick up signs for Keswick relatively quickly after leaving the motorway. Simply follow these and you’ll be in the town in around 30 minutes. It’s worth planning your route in advance as the best option can vary depending on where in the country you’re coming from.
We’d recommend using the AA Route Planner.
Getting the train to Keswick
Keswick does not have its own train station. The nearest one is in Penrith, which is situated on the West Coast Main Line and has services to and from London, Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester and other UK cities.
We’d recommend booking a taxi before you arrive in Penrith, as availability can be difficult.
It’s also worth checking virgintrains.co.uk before you set off, in case of any engineering works.
