Newby Bridge can be found towards the southern end of Lake Windermere in the Lake District National Park. The village is named after the 17th-century five-arched stone bridge and is located on the banks of the River Leven.
It’s a great base from which to explore the southern part of the Lake District, particularly around the Furness Peninsula. Discover the fascinating remains of Furness Abbey, 14th century Dalton Castle and the fascinating Piel Island. The latter is a small island boasting its own castle and pub.
Wander towards the majestic Windermere and board the ferry across to Fell Foot, the beautiful National Trust-owned garden. Pay a visit to Hill Top Farm, the former home of Beatrix Potter and the inspiration behind many of her famous novels. Walkers can enjoy plenty of scenic walking trails, as will any four-legged friends you may want to bring along.
