Our Robin Hoods Bay Travel Guide includes… Places to stay, things to do and how to get to Robin Hood’s Bay
Robin Hood’s Bay, known as ‘Bay Town’ by locals, is a coastal town on the North Yorkshire and Cleveland Heritage Coast, between the towns of Whitby and Ravenscar and within easy reach of the popular resort of Scarborough.
This former fishing village has a rich history of both fishing and smuggling, with both sides of the bay lined with cliffs, making it easy for smugglers to get onto land many years ago. In more recent times, the town has become well-known with tourists for its picturesque coastal scenery.
Robin Hood’s Bay is fantastic for walkers, appearing along the Cleveland Way route and Alfred Wainwright’s famous Coast to Coast walk, spanning 190 miles. It also has a strong literary heritage, author Leo Walmsley grew up here and based some of his work in the town.
