Our Skipton Travel Guide includes… Places to stay, things to do and how to get to Skipton
Skipton acts as a gateway to the Yorkshire Dales and was once voted the most desirable place to live in the UK. Take a walk or boat trip along the canals that run through the town, or hike around the dales in the many scenic walking routes. Skipton Castle is the perfect place to explore the area’s ancient history, the medieval fortress was built over 900 years ago by a Norman Baron and remains well-preserved for its age.
The town centre contains lots of popular and independent shopping stores and places to eat and drink along the historical cobble streets of its high street. Animal lovers will be very impressed with activities in the area, which include horse riding and Thornton Hall Farm Country Park, where visitors can help feed the calves and have a ride on the tractors. If you’re after a more relaxing time, make sure you pay a visit to the Long Ashes Pure Spa, a perfect destination to cleanse and unwind after walking around the beautiful Dales.
