Acorn Bank
Acorn Bank boasts the National Trust’s largest collection of medicinal and culinary plants in its herb garden and a selection of traditional orchards surrounded by herbaceous borders.
Elsewhere on the estate you can wander through woodland where you’ll find a hidden gypsum mine, working watermill and plenty of wildlife, including red squirrels, otters, and rare birds.
The partially restored watermill is just a short walk from the gardens and demonstrations take place between April and October. The mill dates back to the early 19th century and was lovingly restored by volunteers.
While the house is partially closed, the grand entrance hall is open to the public along with a second-hand bookshop on the ground floor – ideal for picking up some holiday reading!
For some light refreshments, head to the courtyard café where you can pick up hot drinks, light bites, and freshly baked cakes.
Come to Acorn Bank and discover a hidden gem of history and nature…
