Bath Skyline
Bath Skyline Walk stretches over six miles on the southeastern edge of the city. This is a fantastic way to experience the city’s beauty, with elevated views, a wealth of countryside and wildlife.
The walk begins at the entrance to National Trust’s Bathwick Fields. From here, cross the road to the Cleveland Walk and progress for 400 metres until you reach a narrow path. Follow this path to a kissing gate.
Venture through the gate and climb the steep steps through a field. At the top of the steps, venture through another kissing gate and head over to Sham Castle by crossing the road. You’ll reach the castle after following a path past a small stone building.
Spend some time at the castle before wandering down the path to Bathwick Wood. Follow the path through the woodland, ignoring the metal kissing gate, before following an uphill, right-bearing track.
Once you’ve reach the top, pass through the kissing gate before turning left. From here wander down a grassy path and across two fields, before walking down a small slope. Turn right and head through a gate.
From here, you can follow a winding path into Bathampton Wood. After crossing large rocks and venturing up a small slope, take the wider of three paths – bear left and pass through a metal kissing gate.
At this point you’ll be in an open field, venture ahead, keeping the fence to the left. Art the end of the field, go through another gate and turn right. From here, venture over a stone stile, head along the road and a public footpath. The path will bring you to Claverton Down Road.
At Claverton Down, follow a fenced path for 800 metres and pass through numerous gates before reaching a rightward woodland. Continue along a wooded footpath until you find a wooden gate; venture through and scramble down a rocky slope.
Continue right, through stone pillars; here fantastic views of the valley can be enjoyed. Hike past a pond and continue through trees and join a cycle track, before turning left and reaching a kissing gate.
From here, wander along Widcombe Hill and Smallcombe Bale, passing historic graves before heading up to the Bathwick Fields. Here you’ll complete the walk and can enjoy the iconic views of the Bath Skyline Walk.
A walk along the Bath Skyline is a hike to remember…
