Bonc yr Hafod Country Park
Bonc yr Hafod Country Park is part of the Johnstown Special Area of Conservation due to its population of great crested newts.
The newts are rare across northern Europe, however, the ponds in low-lying regions of Wrexham are teeming with these impressive amphibians.
Great crested newts are not the only species to be found here; dragonflies, grass snakes, buzzards, kestrels, and skylarks can also be spotted at Bonc yr Hafod.
In summer, wildflowers are scattered across the grassland, while in autumn fungi thrive in the woodland.
There are two waymarked trails allowing you to explore different parts of the park. The red arrows will lead you to the summit, where you can enjoy spectacular views across the Welsh borders.
The yellow arrows point to a trail through the oak woodland and grassland and past the ponds.
Bonc yr Hafod Country Park is a superb attraction in Wrexham…
