This breath-taking manor came to be in 1701 and housed the Carlisle branch of the Howard family for three centuries! Its surrounding estate is really something, comprising 8,800 acres!
When visiting the estate, touring the house of Castle Howard is a must. There are several tours available, one of which is the House Preview Tour. This is a private experience, where you can tour the house before it opens for the day.
Another fantastic tour is The Hidden Lives of the Women of Castle Howard. You’ll be able to look through special paintings and hidden possessions.
Castle Howard and Brideshead is the perfect tour for anyone interested in Evelyn Waugh. The experience delves into the author’s novel, Brideshead Revisited and its connection with the estate.
The gardens are another highlight of the manor. The walled garden is the perfect place to go if you want to unwind and enjoy the views of roses.
If you’d like to go on a leisurely stroll filled with sights, the woodland garden is home to gorgeous flora! There are hundreds of plant species to discover here!
The estate is home to a wealth of monuments, including The Temple of Four Winds. This is a beautifully designed landmark which boasts views of over the estate’s lake and nearby hills.
