Castlerigg Stone Circle, Tewet Tarn and Low Rigg
Start the walk at Castlerigg Stone Circle, there is limited parking here so early arrival is advised. From the circle, you can take in views of Skiddaw, Blencathra, and the Helvellyn range.
Head out of the gate and take a right onto the lane. Walk past Keswick Climbing Wall and to the end of the road, turn right and then right again at the next junction.
Keep following the road until you reach a right turn signposted for St Johns in the Vale church. Take the turning. Follow the narrow lane upwards until you reach a gate on the right-hand side. Go through the gate and take the gentle climb up through the field to the other side.
On the other side, there is a hole in the wall. Walk through the hole and continue on the path through another field where you will eventually come to the remains of a small quarry to your left. Continue past the quarry, keeping the wall to your right, and you will eventually see a signpost for the footpath and the tarn will be visible in the distance.
Head towards the tarn, which is mostly calm, and take in the surrounding mountain views as well as the peaceful surroundings. Looking at the tarn from the direction you came, look to the left and you will find a wall with a gate. Walk to the wall and go through the gate and then turn right. This will lead you down the side of the tarn.
You will soon see a fence in the distance with a gate. Go through the gate and you’ll see Low Rigg ahead and to the left. Walk towards Low Rigg, aiming for the right-hand side. At the base, you will find a path that leads away from the fell on the right-hand side, take this path for a circular walk. If you fancy an extra challenge, walk up to the summit for views of Skiddaw, Blencathra, and the Helvellyn, range before following the path.
