Coedydd Aber National Nature Reserve
While many are drawn to Coedydd Aber’s famous waterfall, there are plenty of other fascinating features to be found here.
The valley provides a diverse range of habitats from woodland to grassland and also boasts an Iron Age hill fort.
The reserve’s valley is mostly made up of oak, hazel, and alder woodland as well as scrub, scree and open grassland. The woodland floor becomes a carpet of bluebells and wood anemones in the spring, making it a particularly popular time to visit.
The humidity provided by the waterfall and at the edges of the river, give ideal conditions for mosses, liverworts, fern and over a hundred species of lichen fauna.
The woodland is home to a wide range of woodland birds including wood warbler, redstart, and crossbills.
There is a waymarked walking trail that starts at the lower carpark and an easier route for pushchairs and wheelchairs that is clearly marked.
