Denbigh Castle
As you cross the drawbridge and enter the gatehouse at Denbigh, you’ll hear the sound of the portcullis being released behind you, along with the rattling of chains and clatter of hooves and marching feet – all thanks to modern technology!
The sounds created at Denbigh serve as a fantastic reminder of the importance this fortress once had. Denbigh passed through Welsh and English hands, with the English adding higher curtain walls, an imposing gatehouse and a ‘sally port’ a secret doorway that defenders could use to escape in an emergency.
The castle welcomes visitors year-round but operates with reduced opening hours in the low season. There is a visitor centre within the castle.
Denbigh Castle is a superb site in North Wales…
