Dow Crag
The 2,552-foot mountain of Dow Crag is a must-hike for any walking enthusiast when visiting the Lake District. The rugged fell can be easily reached via a three-mile hike from Coniston.
The circular walk begins at a car park that is at the end of a tarmac road, north of Coniston. Venture west, keeping The Old Man of Coniston to your right.
The track will get a little steep in places, so please take care. Despite the steep parts, you’ll be able to enjoy scenic views of Walna Scar and Swirl How!
Once you’ve reached the top of the pass, venture right and along another path, towards the ridge. The path features a steep ascent towards the cairn of Brown Pike. There’s a shelter here if you need to pause for a while.
Progress along the path and follow the ridge. Here you’ll find an array of rocky boulders and outcrops before reaching a cairn-marked path. You’ll eventually reach the summit, where amazing views are waiting to be had!
Follow the path right and downwards towards Goat’s Water, then turn left. Follow the tarn’s shore path towards Walna Scar Road, before reaching the car park again.
Enjoy an easy, circular walk up to the rugged Dow Crag…
