Eskdale Mill
The watermill at Eskdale was a cornerstone of the local economy and was at its busiest between 1740 and 1890. Oats, barley and grain have all been sent here to create meal and flour. Eskdale Mill continued producing animal feed until the 1930s.
Visitors today can view the newly restored waterwheels and milling machinery, getting a glimpse into the working past of Eskdale. You can also learn more about the industry from interactive exhibitions.
Outside, you’ll find wooded grounds, a beck-side lawned garden and the tranquil sounds of the nearby river. Here you can enjoy a picnic or walk your dog – there are plenty of nearby trails to extend your walk!
