Golowan Festival
Until the late 19th century, midsummer was vigorously celebrated in Penzance and the surrounding areas. In 1991, Golowan Festival was founded to reignite the fun and hedonism of these times.
These days the festival consists of bright parades, dancing, and displays of artistry. Festival-goers are encouraged to dress up and learn the traditional Cornish Serpent Dance. Activities and workshops are held in the build-up to the main event, including costume, mask, and headdress making in preparation for the festivities.
