Gors Maen Llwyd, North Wales Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve
Spring and summer are the best times to visit Gors Maen Llwyd. If you head to the nature reserve at dawn, you’re in with a chance of hearing the bubbling call of male black grouse lekking, a true natural wonder.
As the sun rises, you’ll hear the sounds of curlew, skylark and cuckoo getting to work for the day. The North Wales Wildlife Trust work to manage the landscape to keep areas of varying habitats and part of this management is through the grazing of sheep.
You can spot sheep grazing here between February and October. There are marked walking trails throughout the reserve, and it’s advised that walkers stick to the paths to avoid disturbing the wildlife inhabiting the area, particularly the ground-nesting birds.
The Brenig Trail cycle route passes through the northern parts of the reserve.
