Hartland Abbey and Gardens
Hartland Abbey was originally built in 1157 and the remains of this abbey can be glimpsed in the basement of the current building. In the 16th century the abbey was gifted by Henry VIII to descendants of the Stucley family who still live there today.
Visitors are welcome to look around the house which features stunning architectural design including the Alhambra Passage designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott. There is also a tearoom located inside the house, serving homemade specials made using as much of the produce from the gardens as possible.
Outside, visitors can explore the walled gardens, the winding paths of the Baronet’s Bog Garden, and a woodland walk. Children are welcome at Hartland Abbey and Gardens and they’re invited to visit the donkeys, peacocks, guinea fowl, and sheep that live on site.
