The Hawker's Hut, Morwenstow
The Hawker's Hut, Cornwall

Hawker’s Hut

Hawker’s Hut is a 19th-century, derelict hut resting on the coast near Morwenstow. It was constructed by Robert Hawker, an Anglican priest, poet and antiquarian from Cornwall.

The little hut offered Robert a place of peace and quiet, where he could write his works. The hut still stands today, enjoying magnificent views of the coast from its elevated position.

You can reach Hawker’s Hut via the Hawker’s Hut walk. The trail is a one-mile, moderate hike that takes you on a walk along the clifftops.

The circular walk begins at the Rectory Farm tea-rooms car park. From here, follow the track past the nearby church and join onto the coast path.

Eventually, you’ll reach a gate, pass through it and follow the path along the top edge of the field. You’ll venture through two more gates until reaching a third on the cliff edge.

Veer left here and follow the signage to Stanbury. Continue along the cliff edge, you’ll soon see signs for Hawker’s Hut. Follow these until you reach the hut. Here, you can explore the little hut and enjoy the same views that Hawker did all those years ago.

Afterwards, head through the nearby kissing gate and venture left. Continue along the path, pass through another kissing gate before reaching the final gate.

Head through the gate onto a wide track. Follow this back to the barn.

Follow this moderate hike to find the peaceful haven of Hawker’s Hut…
