Kendal Castle
Head to Kendal Castle and look out across the town and the magnificent scenery beyond. Built in the 13th century as the seat of power and administration for the barons of Kendal, the castle has a rich history.
The most famous barons of Kendal were the Parr family, whose most famous member, Katherine Parr, was the sixth wife of Henry VIII. After the death of the last baron, William Parr, in 1571 the castle fell to ruin.
Today only part of the castle wall and one tower remain. You can walk around the ruins and listen to audio provided by Visit Kendal, learning more about its history.
