Kielder Water & Woodland Park is a paradise for cyclists, walkers, and outdoor enthusiasts, with England’s biggest forest and Northern Europe’s largest artificial lake.
Kielder Forest
Trails for all abilities are available at Kielder Water & Forest Park. The Lakeside Way is a 26-mile multi-use trail suited for walkers, bikers, horse riders, and wheelchair users that encircles Kielder Water. There’s a wildlife sanctuary, the best black skies in England, and award-winning art and architecture.
Kielder Water & Forest Park is a natural refuge, home to half of England’s native red squirrel population. In 2009, a record-breaking osprey couple successfully raised three chicks in Northumberland, the first in at least 200 years. You can also see pipistrelle bats, roe deer, salmon otter, and water voles.
Kielder Water
Kielder Water is a vast man-made reservoir and the largest artificial lake in the United Kingdom, bordered by Kielder Forest, one of Europe’s largest man-made woodlands.
Water skiing and sailing enthusiasts visit the lake all year, and between March and October, the lake provides a significant challenge to avid trout fishermen.
