Mother Shipton’s Cave
Nestled within the endearing woodland along the picturesque River Nidd is the famous Mother Shipton’s Cave. The prophetess, Mother Shipton was born in 1488 in the cave, which is situated next to Petrifying Well, England’s oldest visitor attraction.
The well was believed to behold healing powers; in the 17th century, these were even investigated by a medical physician! The attraction has garnered millions of sightseers since 1630, and you’ll be able to see it for yourself during your visit. If you stay long enough, you might even get to see its waters turn objects into stone!
The Wishing Well is another iconic landmark, and it rests inside the cave. During your visit, it is tradition to make a wish here and let the parks natural beauty enchant you.
After admiring the natural wonders of the cave and its surroundings, pay the Museum a visit. Its artefacts are very special, comprising celebrity-donated items that the well has petrified.
Mother Shipton’s Cave is well-equipped for little ones. An adventure playground is nearby, with plenty of seating for you to unwind on while the kids play.
