Plas Newydd
Plas Newydd is the ancestral home of the Marquess of Anglesey nestled on the shores of the Menai Straight and enjoying breath-taking views of Snowdonia. The home was transformed from a Victorian party house to the comfortable family home you can see today.
Besides the stunning architecture and mature gardens, one of the main draws to Plas Newydd is its connection to the artist, Rex Whistler. Rex was commissioned to paint a large mural in the dining room and spent much time at the home in the 1930s, even befriending the late 7th Marquess when he was a boy.
Inside the house, you’ll also find a military museum with items and pictures of the 1st Marquess and his part in the Battle of Waterloo. You can also view the late 7th Marquess’ study, which is just as he left it when he died in 2013.
Outside you’ll find 40 acres of garden and 129 acres of woodland and parkland. The gardens feature everything from rhododendrons and magnolias to rare species usually only found in the southern hemisphere.
If you fancy stretching your legs for a little while longer, there are plenty of trails to follow and the visitor welcome team will be happy to point them out.
Plas Newydd is a great attraction in Wales…
