Shanklin Chine came to be in the 18th century, when it was a rough walk that took hikers past a waterfall to Shanklin. Many writers have been inspired by Shanklin Chine’s sights over the years, including John Keats and Jane Austen.
These days, Shanklin Chine is a fantastic attraction that is brimming with beauty on the Isle of Wight.
Come here and embark on a hike along the attractions’ woodland trails, where a leafy ravine and stunning waterfall await. The latter is the star of the show, with its thunderous sounds and 45ft cascade!
An array of animals can be found on a hike through Shanklin Chine, including red squirrels, foxes and robins. The plants are also very special here, with rare mosses, ferns and liverworts on display.
The woodland trails will bring you to Shanklin Old Town, where a tea garden and antique centre lie. Enjoy a well-deserved sit down with a sweet treat before viewing the fascinating exhibits in the antique centre.
The exhibits on offer feature a wealth of the local area’s history, including PLUTO (Pipe Line Under The Ocean) and the 40 Royal Marine Commando.
