This challenging climb is not for the faint of heart, but the 360-degree views across County Antrim make the trek worthwhile! The walk is also steeped in rich heritage and culture as it is allegedly the first Irish home of Saint Patrick!

Slemish is an impressive volcanic mound perched in the breath-taking Northern Irish countryside. Standing over 1400 feet, the panoramic views from its summit make it well worth the difficult climb!

Directions

  1. Begin the walk in Slemish Car Park which lies on the outskirts of Broughshane.
  2. Follow the grassy path to the base of the mountain and join other climbers in picking your route over the rocky terrain.
  3. At over 1400 feet the short climb is very challenging but the views from the top make it worth the while.
  4. For a gentler descent, head south from the summit and climb down the south face of Slemish.
  5. You can then rejoin the route back to the car park.
