Directions

  1. Depart from the parking lot situated in Donard Park and commence your journey towards the mountain.
  2. Progress along the Glen River, ascending through ancient forests abundant with Scotch Pine, Oak, and Birch trees.
  3. Use the first of three bridges to cross the river.
  4. Continue your ascent amidst the forest, traversing approximately 400 meters above a meandering stream until you approach another bridge.
  5. Exercise caution as the riverbank overhangs during this segment.
  6. Revert to the left side and resume your uphill trek through the wooded area.
  7. Upon reaching the subsequent bridge, cross the forest road and transition onto the rugged path ascending into the mountains. To the right, a dense, closed-off forest accompanies your ascent until a gate and stile are encountered.
  8. Cross the stile and navigate towards the hill nestled between Donard and Commedagh, following the riverside path for around 2 km.
  9. Upon the road’s intersection with the river, ascend uphill until reaching the “Saddle” where the Mourne Wall is situated.
  10. Turn left at the Mourne Wall and ascend steeply along its course to reach the mountain’s summit.
  11. Upon reaching the summit, trace the same path downward, keeping close to the wall until the “Saddle” is reached once more.
  12. Take caution around the Eagle Rocks, located on the north side of Donard, as they pose difficulties in accessibility.
  13. Retrace your steps along the Glen River’s pathway to return to Donard Park.
