White Moss, Rydal Water & Caves to Grasmere
Begin the walk at the White Moss car park between Grasmere and Ambleside. On the opposite side of the car park, you’ll find two paths. Take the path on the left. T
he path follows the River Rothay through woodland. You will come to a bridge, cross over this bridge and take the path leading straight on. The path leads through woodland and comes to a fork. At the fork, take the left-hand side.
You will then arrive at a gate in a stone wall. Go through the gate out of the woodland and turn left. The path leads down to Rydal Water. Here there are some streams to cross with stepping stones, making this the point for wheelchair users to turn back, and the path eventually leads to the lake shore and continues alongside it.
The path then leaves the lake shore and starts to ascend. You will reach a junction, take the right-hand side signposted for Rydal Caves. Follow the path as it rises and eventually levels out before rising up again.
You will soon come to a crossroads, go straight over to reach the cave. Due to falling rocks, it is not advised to go in. Turn back out of the cave and at the crossroads take the left-hand side. Follow the path uphill and at the fork, take the right.
At the end of this path, you will come to a junction with a gate. Go through the gate and turn left to head to Grasmere. Just beyond the gate, you will come to another fork in the path.
Take the right-hand side. Continue down to Grasmere, taking a left at the next fork to reach the shore. After exploring the lake, head towards the bridge over the river.
Cross the bridge and on the other side turn right to go back to the car park.
