  • "Lovely cottage, very clean and had everything we needed for cooking, entertainment and relaxing."

Location was perfect with views that we will miss and never forget. It would be good having some information on the best way to walk down to the shore line, we did get down there but felt the path was close to another holiday cottage and not sure if this was the right way. Also maybe a warning about the road leading up to the cottage; first time had us a bit concerned as we have a city type car that is quite low and ground out on some pot holes, but we got used to it after a couple of days and to be honest a lot of the island is like that if you want to visit everything.

A decent little shop a couple of miles away. No issues at all, but just on a personal note, a little more comfort in the chairs/bed, and a comfy chair downstairs would make it even better for when you’re too tired to climb the stairs after your evening meal. That’s just me being fussy though maybe! Overall can’t really fault it and would definitely like to return

Great views across Loch Dunvegan towards the castle & Cuillin Hills (when the weather allows it!). Fantastic wildlife viewing from the cottage including Golden Eagles & dolphins. Listing states the location as Totaig but actually it's at the far end of Husabost (Uig/Boreraig on the OS maps!) a good 25minutes drive from Dunvegan on quite rough single track roads with quite a lot of campervan traffic on the first half.

Lots of animals and birds to see including herds of deer and the resident rabbit. Great place for watching the changing light, weather and the northern lights. The owners seem to have thought of everything that guests could ever need and the cottage was very clean and welcoming. We were sad to leave!

  • "These things are very subjective but here's our take on Red Chimneys Cottage."

This was a holiday booked to celebrate my 50th birthday. We were looking for something spectacular, and this meet that 'look'. The cottage was a fantastic base to explore Skye. The views are panoramic and from the front garden we saw: dolphins, buzzards, deer & an owl. The cottage itself is well equiped. It has underfloor heating which was fantastic at heating the cottage and cold feet, so much so that we didn't even use the log burner. My wife stated she's sold on underfloor heating. The shower pressure was brilliant and a double size so plenty of space to move around in. We didn't use the bath but it was wide and deep and has a shower attachment which i'm told is good for long hair washing. The beds, bedding, fixtures, fittings and furniture were quality. The wifi signal was strong throughout the stay. Mark & Fiona were great in dealing with a minor issue we had. The arrival instructions and cottage instructions were at the right level i thought. The whole stay was peaceful and we were a bit sad to leave, that's a first for us. I have a feeling we will be returning to Red Chimneys Cottage!

  • "We arrived at Red Chimneys later than expected due to some vehicle issues on the way, but as soon as we opened the door to the cottage and switched on the lights, we knew we were having a good week."

At this point we did not even know what the scenery was like. The cottage was warm, clean and well laid out, it was everything we needed and more. We have stayed in a lot of cottages in the UK over the years and this is definitely right up there as the best we have stayed at. Waking up the next morning we soon found that every window (including the (double) bedroom window has fantastic views. The location is amazing if you are looking for a 'get away from it all' break. It is quiet and serene. We had warm and sunny days and we had cold, windy and wet days but the weather never changed how we felt about this break. Red Chimneys is a fantastic cottage as a base to explore, and with stunning scenery right on the doorstep. From the front of the cottage we saw Dolphins, Seals, White tailed eagles, buzzards and barn owls. The cottage itself has everything that you need and is well laid out, whilst there is a log burner in the 1st floor living room, we did not need to use it even on the colder days as teh underfloor heating did the trick throughout. The water pressure was amazing, if you like a powerful shower to refresh you, or to beat away any aches and pains, or if you want a deep lush bath you have it here. We really cannot fault cottage at all. The only downside is that we cannot book the same week next year (our anniversary) because it is already booked up. Just proving how popular this cottage is. We will visit again without doubt. Thank you Fiona and Mark for such a beautiful cottage

Beautiful cottage with breath taking sea views during day and night, Perfect for family and dog with enclosed garden/field. Very comfortable and warm with underground heating. Almost too warm with stove on but a good complaint. Lovely big bath as well as shower facilities to ease bones after long day of travel and walks. A wonderful remote get away. Lovely for walks around location and Neist point lighthouse a must see which is short drive away. Nearest store open in winter is Glendale over rocky road through scenic moors. Petrol station and shop in Dunvegan. Nearest big town with co ops in Portree about 40 minutes away. Old man of Storr is another must walk/hike near Portree. Isles Inn and Portree hotel allow dogs in bar area. If take Ferry over from Mallaig be sure to book in advance. Our directions took us this way and we were lucky to get on last boat for the day due to cancellation. Can drive around over bridge to Isle of Skye 2hrs away and we took this route on way back. Both routes through stunning highland views. WiFi good and TV too if need. Good collection of books provided and even a guitar. All the comforts are provided for a most relaxing stay any time of year. Highly recommend for a wonderful memorable get away from it all relaxing experience. Miss looking out at the panoramic see views from cottage already. NB. A correction needed in directions from Skye cottage confirmation. Directions note when enter Dunvegan from Portree to take a right to Glendale but should say take a sharp left when enter Dunvegan and then right beyond petrol station. There was another left before Dunvegan as well to Glendale. Important to review written directions getting to cottage for first time especially when dark or download offline app as phone goes out of service in some parts en route if rely on mobile maps.

Very discusted that I had to spend first hour clearing up the garden after several other 4 legged occupants! I know the garden is overgrown but it's no excuse. I even followed the dogs out with a torch to ensure it was clean for the next visitors. As I didn't want others to have the same experience. We could have left a few hours after arriving due to this and the state of the potholed roads. It was a long journey and the weather was really wet and cold not like our previous stay. We purservered and stuck it out and thankfully things did improve. A bit of tlc and this place will be a great again. A new suite in the lounge and better seating is called for. Best day was Thursday when we saw an otter on the shore of Loch Dunvegan. Saturday when we left was gorgeous weather as if to say come back soon. The roads need desperately looking at and then we would maybe be prepared tp stay again.

The beds were comfortable and everyone enjoyed a good night's sleep. We loved the location, on the side of Loch Dunvegan and the lovely views. It was only spoilt by one stormy, rainy weather day mid-week but it is Skye and the weather can be unpredictable. Shame our view of the aurora was marred by thick cloud but c'est last vie!! It was certainly a chilling out place and for losing track of time. Everything we needed was there and what wasn't provided we had with us. We have taken many cottage holidays in Scotland and we know what to expect. The lighting in the kitchen was okay for doing a jigsaw puzzle in the evening and during a very wet day, when even the dogs didn't want to go out. The scenery on Skye is very beautiful and ever changing views whatever the weather, but you need to be prepared for isolation so not a place for pub goers and party animals but you can play your cds quite loud without upsetting the neighbours - the sheep! The underfloor heating is brilliant and the wood burner was a real treat. We would definitely consider returning in the future.
