  • "An absolute hidden gem."

Beautiful cottage in a beautiful village. So much more than expected, and absolutely wonderful experience as a family, with our dogs. The cosiest place for a completely relaxing break with good amenities. The hosts were wonderful with us with any questions also. Sad to have left I'll be honest! 10/10

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback and great to hear you had a wonderful experience in Longnor and the Peak district - topped off by the snow! Hope to see you again soon. Property Owner

  • "Bakehouse Croft is a great little place set in a nice village."

The cottage is warm, clean and comfortable with a good range of facilities. Parking is tight but doable out the front of the property. The log burner is fab at night. The cottage is on a fairly busy road which was not an issue for us. All contact with the owners was excellent with prompt responses to any queries we had and they were keen to help. Plenty of things to do and see including walks, Chatsworth etc in easy reach. Lovely pub in the village serving great food alongside a fish and chip shop and cafes too. In short we would recommend Bakehouse Croft as a good base to explore the area.

  • "We had a lovely relaxing break, cottage was lovely and cosy, clean and bed very comfy."

We lit the fire, sadly we were unable to clean the fire out as no ash bucket or spade. Lovely little village, even though cottage on busy main road through the village, around 6pm it goes very quiet. Just one little thing unable to close bathroom door as it felt like it was going to come off hinges, but to us was not a problem. Thank you owners of property you have a lovely little cottage.

  • "We stayed at Bakehouse Croft at the end of October and had such high hopes after reading the excellent reviews, however we were very unlucky that at the time of our stay the amenities were not fully functioning and not as described, to the point that we left first thing in the morning after only one night of a two night stay."

On entering the cottage, it was cold and smelt damp and despite following the instructions in the welcome manual, the central heating was inadequate and, just like the review of the people who stayed immediately before us, most of the radiators did not get warm. One of the features that we had chosen the cottage for was the log burning stove but, also very disappointingly and unfortunately for us, no firelighters had been provided as promised in the welcome manual for a first fire and by the time we knew this, the one tiny shop in the village had closed. The final decider for us to leave early was the following morning when we were unable to shower because the shower tray immediately threatened to overflow and yellow scum was visible in the backed up water from the blocked drain hole. Again, the previous guests had brought this to the owners' attention in their review and the owners' response had suggested that this and the heating issue had been resolved. We complained to Sykes straightaway in the morning on leaving the cottage the day before our departure date and have spent weeks trying to get a refund of the second night from the owners, which we thought was more than reasonable, and have finally been refunded an inadequate amount of £75 and the response that it was the fault of the previous guests for leaving the shower drain filter in the wrong position and that the firelighters had now been replaced (great for next guests but of no use to us) and lastly that the owners had found no fault with the heating, although they have clearly actually rectified whatever the issue was as the guests after us enthused about how warm the cottage was. Bakehouse Croft is a very nice cottage and we were clearly very unlucky but we should not have had the issues we suffered as they had already been raised by the previous guests and the slow, very inadequate response of the owners has also been very poor- again beneficial though to guests after us as they have made sure they were readily available after our complaints. For future guests, be aware that parking quite tight and on a busy road and is the same small space that the owners describe as somewhere to sit outside in nice weather. Also, don't close the main bedroom door as you then can't open it from the inside due to broken latch and you can't close the bathroom door even if you want to, although now more than one review has mentioned this I guess the owners may address these maintenance issues.

I am so sorry about your stay. As you say, the firelighters weren't replenished - we have addressed this and now have plenty always in the house, as well as all the other areas you highlighted. However, neither we nor our housekeepers (who are available 24/7) were contacted at all during your stay, if we were we would have immediately put things right. Our housekeeepers don't spot everything but we always respond quickly. We only found out about these issues when we were contacted a week later with a refund request. We try are hardest to keep the cottage in good order for guests to enjoy and to explore the area. Sometimes things happen during stays which aren't spotted immediately but all feedback is important, so thank you for helping draw attention to these areas for us to fix for future guests - we only wish we could have done so during your stay. • "Lovely ,well maintained little cottage."

Nice to have a decent size fridge too, meant we could stock up and not worry about shopping on holiday. The only thing we had a slight problem with was that the parking space at the front of the cottage was a bit tight even for our smallish car.

  • "Enjoyed our stay at the cottage."

Facilities fine. A few minor issues on maintenance I would draw the owner’s attention to: Several of the radiators didn’t get warm. They may need bleeding. Additional plug in heaters enabled us to keep warm. The shower waste pipe didn’t drain as fast as it should and the shower tray threatened to overflow so had to keep turning the shower off. The frying pan didn’t have a flat base which meant it wasn’t very compatible with the induction hob. We struggled with the key safe on arrival. Rang Sykes but response was poor. Repeated efforts with the keysafe revealed we weren’t pressing both buttons, so our own error. On a previous booking, I had a problem I wished to discuss. When I rang Sykes number the response was quick, but when it was established that this was not an enquiry about a new booking I was diverted to another number. After 45 minutes I gave up. Eventually I succeeded in contacting the owners directly.

Hello, thank you for the really helpful feedback - much appreciated and helps us for future guests. Thank you for staying! Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay in this very cute cottage, everything needed was provided and the welcome gift much appreciated."

The home is perfect for 4 people, clean and nicely decorated, comfy beds and fluffy white towels. Just a very short walk into Longnor where we enjoyed the fish and chips and the local pub. Little lane around the back to nip the dog out when needed. Would highly recommend. Thank you!

Many thanks for your wonderful feedback. Your comments are really helpful for us and for other guests, really hope to welcome you back sometime soon. Regards, N&M Property Owner

  • "Well appointed cottage with everything you need."

The village has lots of amenities including a pub, serving good pub grub, fish and chip shop ( v good) general store and 2 cafes. Parking at the property is a bit tight so wouldn't suit a large suv. The road is surprisingly busy (lots of tractors). The scenery locally is stunning, especially the drive in from Crowdecote. I would definitely recommend as a base to explore the Peak district.

Thank you so much for your feedback and kind comments, it really means a lot to us. Glad you enjoyed the local fish and chips at the Manifold chip shop, that's always a hit with our kids! I imagine after the rather damp summer the local farmers are literally making hay while the sun shines at the moment, hence the tractor movements, it is something which comes hand in hand with the scenery. Thanks again for your review. Property Owner
