  • "Courtyard cottage is a beautiful period cottage very tastefully modernised & comfortable, set in private grounds it is very peaceful being surrounded by woodland."

. we would thoroughly recommend it as a base to explore the beauty & historic east side of Scotland, a true comfortable relaxing home from home. The cottage is a credit to Tim & Alison the owners. Mike Elly Shelly & Amy from Torbay.

  • "First Impressions of the cottage where quite positive, it is an old stone Building which remains cool even on a warm day."

The heating to the property is controlled by a timer which in turn is controlled by the owner, hence at night on our stay in mid September it got fairly cold. There was also a fume smell emitting from the oil boiler in the en-suite double bedroom, especially if the door to the en-suite bathroom left closed. Hence due to there only being two of us we opted to sleep in another of the 3 bedrooms, the lack of heating control at night was a slight downside to our stay though. Privacy was another problem at the cottage as it is part of a multi unit letting set up, with a number of permanent residents also. This meant the need to the keep curtains drawn, or residents can see straight into the holiday let, access to property was via two Drives each very pot holed even for a 4x4 to use. There was also a distinct lack of where to go leaflets for things to see and do in the area, on leaving we left our leaflets there for new guests to use when they arrive. Seating in kitchen looked period but was very uncomfortable and all the chairs rickety, with very loose wooden Joints with some previous attempted screw repairs quite dangerous really. These need repairing properly to safe guard future occupants safety when using the focal point kitchen, as this is a premium property it really needs all the little details re- addressing especially the boiler when the rental season finally quietens down. The property could be brought right back up to scratch, over the course of a couple of days re-investment and time. Overall we enjoyed our time there but it could have been so much better.

It was an ideal location to visit the eastern side of Scotland. We loved the rural but not remote location. It was very quiet and peaceful with easy access to the main roads. The cottage had everything you could think of to provide a very comfortable stay. Our host, Tim, was on hand for advice and help which was very reassuring. First class....thank you!

We soon felt at home in the light and airy kitchen and the vase of freshly cut flowers on the table was a joy.The cottage was clean, comfortable and spacious and some thought had gone into providing all the little touches that make a difference. We had good weather for the week and the location was ideal as a base for exploring the area. Castles, beaches, wildlife and great food, what more could you want?

  • "The property is marketed as outstanding and presumably I’m paying for that rating."

Maybe it was outstanding 11 years ago when they started but it is most decidedly not outstanding now! There are various issues: strong oil smells from boiler, no privacy at all, messy and unkempt outlook, inadequate utensils, dishwasher and oven well past their best, intermittent problems with flushing toilets and the Wi-Fi. The property needs a refurb urgently and in my opinion it is significantly overpriced.

Following your message in our visitor book, "We enjoyed our stay, very nice clean cottage. Thanks for the goodies...." etc and having hopefully been as prompt as possible with addressing the issues that you actually brought to our attention, it is saddening to read your diatribe on this feedback platform. We aim to make everyone as welcome and comfortable as possible, but certain things such as rural Wi-Fi crossed with torrential rain are beyond our powers. Inadequate utensils presumably means you were short of something we haven't thought of or that hasn't been highlighted by previous guests, but which you could have asked for whilst complaining about the Wi-Fi? (Which incidentally was reported to BT immediately and which seems to be working perfectly since). We have continually maintained and upgraded this property over the 11 years since we first opened it for holiday makers and though the oven and dishwasher whilst brand new then may not be state of the art now, they are by most standards perfectly adequate. Had you brought the apparent issue of strong smells from the boiler to our attention, we would of course have investigated. We now have done so and found nothing untoward or out of the ordinary for an indoor oil fired boiler . Further and to be 100% sure we have booked a second engineer to give a confirmed opinion. With regards to privacy, the cottage is clearly advertised and photographed as being attached to other properties and as such other people are likely to be present in the outdoor areas. "Overpriced"? The price for 3 standard rooms at the local Premier Inn for the equivalent dates would have been £1633.50 to put things in to perspective. As with all feedback, we have assessed yours for how we can improve things, but " Net Curtains" , maybe not. Property Owner

..with a warm welcome given by its owners. It’s situated in beautiful and peaceful surroundings, well equipped, catering for adults and children alike. Better than home from home. Apart from some confusion on Sykes behalf, regarding whether the ‘good house-keeping’ bond was applicable to this property, our experience of booking was hassle free. In addition, we question why Sykes offer a ‘breakage’ policy, when a good house-keeping bond exists for that property.
