  • "This was a lovely property in a beautiful location."

It was very comfortable and the owners had obviously put a lot of thought into all the home comforts. It was a perfect location for touring this area of Scotland.

  • "A fantastic property, so cosy and welcoming."

Recently renovated, by the looks of it, and to a very high standard. Very well equipped and a few little surprises as well. The beds and the shower were amazing. We enjoyed a week at the laurels and were so relaxed. Waking up in the morning to the sight and sound of the sea was so mesmerising.

  • "The cottage had everything you would need for a lovely stay."

The equipment in the kitchen was top notch. (Maybe a bigger cafetière). The lounge was comfortable and the recliners brilliant! The beds comfortable and showers to die for! Best bit of all though was being able to look out to sea. Fantastic place, will be back! I’m in love with Pennan and The Laurels

  • "This cottage is absolutely beautiful, looks small from outside but an absolute gem of a place and huge inside."

Spotless inside and everything you would need for a lovely stay from tea, and coffee ,biscuits awaiting our stay to even clothes pegs for your washing, they thought of everything. Everything inside is brand new. The Pub is 5 doors away however we only went once as they ran out of lager and to be fair very clicky. Asda 4 miles away and far from civilisation , it does state places far away but I guess I’m used to local shops etc and should have read the description of actually where it was. If you like quiet then this is the place for you. Peterhead prison is a must for a visit ( 40 mins away approx ) a real good day and a lovely day trip. Thank you so much x

  • "The Laurels is a fantastic property."

We have just spent a week in the house in beautiful Pennan. We were extremely lucky with the weather - beautiful sunrises and sunsets. The house is thoughtfully arranged and well equipped. The beds are comfortable. The bathroom and shower room have good quality fittings. The kitchen had everything we needed. We didn't come across a 'house book' with instructions etc - there was not a problem - just wasn't sure if we missed it. We visited the Highland Games in Dufftown (great by the way) we bought some folding chairs to take with us - we have left these for the house in the cupboard in the kitchen - thought they would be useful for those lovely sunny evenings, sitting in front of the house taking in the stunning views.

  • "We have just recently spent a week at The Laurels and it was a fantastic week away which we hope to revisit soon!"

The local scenery is beautiful with beaches, coves, cliffs and harbours perfect for crabbing. However, the holiday was made perfect due to the cottage being immaculate, comfortable, contained everything you might need and looking into the crashing waves of Pennan. We had a lovely meal at The Pennan Inn which we'd highly recommend and enjoyed a lovely cuppa and amazing cakes at the Coastal Cuppie by the harbour! We cannot recommend this place enough!

  • "A very comfortable house done up to a very high standard in a charming wee village that you will not want to leave."

I would highly recommend staying here to anyone, clean, comfortable with everything you could want or need in a self catering property. My favourite part of the house is the wee path in the garden that leads up into the cliffs behind the cottage with a unique view of Pennan. A perfect base for anyone who wants to see what Aberdeenshire has to offer.

  • "Lovely spacious cottage right on the shore of beautiful Pennan."

Gorgeous sunsets. The property has large comfy bed. Massive TV and best shower I’ve ever had. If I was to nit pick then the only thing I’d change is the two slice toaster to a four slice one! The property owner, Vicki, also sent a link to the cottage page where there was a wealth of information regarding the cottage and also recommended local places to go. Would 100% recommend this cottage to friends and family too.

  • "We want to say thank you for a wonderful week at The Laurels."

It was the best cottage we've ever stayed in and would highly recommend staying here. It's beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable. The bathrooms are brilliant, kitchen well stocked and the beds are so comfortable. We especially loved the fantastic garden that leads up into the cliffs behind the cottage. Pennan Harbour itself is a peaceful place to stay and we'd love to come back again in the future.

Thank you for such a lovely review, as our very first guests at The Laurels we could not be more delighted. It was a pleasure to have you and would love to welcome you back again. Property Owner

About the location

GARDENSTOWN

Banff 8 miles; Fraserburgh 17 miles; Aberdeen 32 miles; Elgin 43 miles.

The port village of Gardenstown is often linked with neighbouring Gamrie and Crovie as one community, and was founded in 1720 by Alexander Garden as a fishing village. Gardenstown borders a small sandy bay with stunning scenery flanking both sides. The village has a pub serving food all year and a restaurant, galleries and several tea rooms in season. A steep road leads you through the ancient, narrow and winding streets to the harbour where many small boats are moored. The neighbouring town of Banff boasts a relaxing sandy beach and a variety of fascinating architecture in contrasting styles, exemplified by Duff House, an impressive Georgian mansion open to visitors and home to paintings and artefacts from the National Galleries of Scotland. Banff and the surrounding area also have a good selection of shops, restaurants and hotels, which serve a fine selection of local sea foods, whilst nearby Pennan, a beautiful old smugglers village, was the location for the movie 'Local Hero'. The whole area is an ideal tourist destination, being on the North East Tourist Trail, with easy access to coastal paths and the Whisky and Castle Trails, as well as numerous golf courses, fishing, sailing, dolphin watching, surfing, climbing, great walking and of course, stunning sunsets and fabulous scenery. The Grampian and Cairngorm mountains are easily accessible for day excursions, and the North East of Scotland is protected from prevailing winds and has the driest Scottish climate with virtually no midges.
