  • "An excellent base for exploring the region"

  • "This cottage is in near perfect condition, and very well equipped."

Every aspect was comfortable. We found it to be a great base for exploring the region and all it has to offer. The information booklet in the house is very accurate, and we loved the wee gift of Walkers Shortbread. Thanks for all of this.

Hi Billie, thanks for your kind words, we’re so glad you had a great stay and enjoyed the Cairngorms, it’s an amazing area and even after many years, we keep finding new and exciting places to explore. Hope you had a good journey home. Best wishes Dave & Jules Property Owner

  • "We have stayed in lots of places over the years and I must say, this was the best."

Spotless and spacious. The kitchen was the best equipped and really was home from home. The area was fabulous. Walks for all abilities and the village a couple of minutes stroll which was handy for the local shop. At first I thought the village was a little out of the way - but everywhere was so easily accessible. We visited quaint villages/the coast/distillery and even a round of golf was squeezed in amongst multiple walks. Topped off by coming back to comfy home from home. We had a truly wonderful time.

Thanks for the review Heather, really glad you had a great holiday, a lot of our guests completely agree with you, many have commented that it’s a peaceful and quiet village with lovely walks and trails, but also so easy to access all of the Cairngorms National Park along with the east coast and the Moray Firth. Hopefully we’ll see you back again one day. Best wishes Dave & Jules Property Owner

  • "We were delighted with Kilmuir cottage for our short stay in Tomintoul."

The house is very comfortable and the open kitchen / lounge layout worked great for us. The kitchen has everything needed and all good quality. Thanks to the good weather, we did not get time to use the entertainment system, but it looks great. It was very clean on our arrival. Nice outdoor space accessible from the lounge to enjoy the Tomintoul sunshine!

  • "We loved staying at Kilmuir Cottage, everything was very clean."

Very good entertainment system including TV, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth speaker & Alexa. The range of crockery, glasses, utensils and cooking equipment was the most comprehensive we have experienced. The beds were very comfortable with good quality bedding & towels. The only slightly negative comment was that although the sofas were of good quality (feather cushions etc) we didn’t fine them comfortable. All in all we really enjoyed ourselves and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend staying here.

Hi Carol, thank you so much for your feedback. Jules and I take a lot of time thinking of different ways to make our guests visit to Kilmuir Cottage as comfortable as possible and to make their stay a true “home from home holiday. We spare no expense on providing the most up-to-date technology and to supply top end modern conveniences. With regard to the Settee, while it is perfectly functional we identified earlier this year that it could perhaps be a little more comfortable, therefore we have already ordered two new products and should be with us later this summer. We hope you had a safe journey home and would love to see you again here in Tomintoul Best wishes Dave & Jules Property Owner

Comfortable, well equipped and well situated for access to the village as well as trips out and about. Look forward to coming to stay again in near future.

Hi Alasdair, great to have you back again, and we’re delighted you had another lovely visit. We have a lot of returning guests and they always still find new places to explore and exciting things to experience, it’s amazing how different the Cairngorms can look just day-to-day let alone in the ever changing seasons. We would love to see you again, but until then we hope you have a lovely summer. Best wishes Dave & Jules Property Owner

The overall cottage was great and perfect for what was required.

  • "Beautifully appointed and cosy new build cottage - it had everything we could need for our week there."

We also loved Tomintoul village, which has good basic shopping facilities etc while still being very rural. It’s a winding drive from Aviemore, and high up, which means there are loads of amazing walks straight from the front door and the scenery is beautiful, but is worth bearing in mind when planning travel and activities (ie weather matters).

Hi Rachel, thanks for the review, so glad you had a lovely stay, good advice about the weather, this week looks very cold and snowy. Best wishes Dave & Jules Property Owner

It is cosy, clean, well equipped and well maintained. The owners have obviously put a lot of thought into trying to ensure there is everything necessary for a great stay. They have succeeded!! We have already booked again for next year. Many thanks.

Hi Alasdair, thank you so much for your kind comments, we are delighted that you both had a wonderful stay. We are lucky to have a great team of people who take care of our house and we are always thinking of new items to add for our guests, we are putting a telescope in the lounge soon so people can use it in the garden as we benefit from being in a dark sky reserve. We look forward to welcoming you back next year. Best wishes Dave & Jules Property Owner

Small thing, the lightbulbs in the bedside lights in the twin room aren't right for the dimable lights. They flicker and are unusable, bulbs just need changed.

Hi Fiona, so glad you enjoyed your stay, I am back up soon to do a few chores and the replacement of those pesky light bulbs will be top of the agenda, thanks for the feedback. Best wishes Dave and Jules Property Owner

  • "The property was on the edge of the village the photo makes you think its in the middle of the country."

This was not a problem as meant we were closer to the village than we thought. Everything you need is in the property but we found it far too hot as the temperature is auto set to 21% and you can not adjust this from the property .As the weather was nice we opened all the windows this helped then to regulate the heat. May be worth noting in the information that the local shop only opened until 5pm

Hi Karen, so glad you enjoyed you stay. With regard to the heating, the thermostat is set to achieve and maintain 21c as we feel that this is a comfortable temperature, but when the sun shines through the glass, the house like any other house it will warm up, but when 21c is achieved the heating shuts off, so any temperature above this in the property is directly from the Sun, and unfortunately the additional warmth is out of our control, therefore the house will need windows to be opened to allow any unwanted heat out, as mentioned, the heating is off! and not contributing to the rise in temperature. We have taken many pictures of the house from all different angles and at different times of the year to try to truly reflect the position of the property relative to the surrounding area, there is a map on Sykes website showing the cottage in relationship to the village, and also a street view is available, but as you said, it is lovely being on the village outskirts so close to the quiet fields & countryside, and also so close to the town centre and its amenities. And lastly yes, the village shop only opens 8:30-5:30 these opening times will be added to our helpful information book at the property. I hope you had a safe journey home, and we would love to be able to welcome you back to Kilmuir Cottage again in the future. Best wishes David & Jules Property Owner
