"We found Bro Dawel to be clean, conveniently close to the centre of Beaumaris and value for money."
There were things that could have been better. The TV in the living room was inoperative, WIFI would have been nice, although we knew that was an issue before we booked. The keybox was a little troublesome, it would have benefitted from a sofa rather than 4 rather upright chairs. The light didn't work in the downstairs toilet / utility room and the clock on the mantlepiece being stopped and without a key to wind, added to the feeling of needing a little bit of attention. The hedge alongside the rear parking bay could also do with a trim to make it easier to get a car in and out. As I say though, it was clean, well located and value for money so we were happy enough.

"The house was clean but very old fashioned, very poor mobile service and the house had no WiFi so difficult to keep in contact."
Parking at the rear of the property was difficult and very tight, also on a one way street so finding the right turn was difficult. The village is fantastic and worth a visit.

"Although the house was in an ideal place for accessing the town centre I was rather disappointed with the house itself."
The gas fire was not working so I had to use an electric fire which I carried down from the bedroom. No broadband which was a big disappointment and very limited TV channels, I am a widow and was on my first holiday since my husband passed away so don't go out in the evening and just looked forward to watching some television but none of my usual channels were available. I am only referring to basic Freeview channels such as Ch.4, Ch.5, ITV 3 for example. No sofa as mentioned in the property details just 4 'care home' style armchairs. Taps on the washbasin in the bathroom very stiff to turn on or off and the hot water just a trickle. Although I was able to go out each day the evenings were very depressing with no broadband or decent TV to occupy the hours on my own. Also great care has to be taken accessing the private parking space as this is at the back of the property down a narrow and very potholed lane.

"Excellent position."
good parking which is essential. quiet. decor and furniture very dated. chairs in lounge 'likened to a care home'. carpet joins coming apart. broken catches on windows. brambles over back path. lots of information about when you can use the electric (thought we had paid for this in the hire) - interesting in the winter as there is no central heating just electric heaters and storage heaters. The biggest problem is lack of broadband so TV is very limited. No DVD players and only small radio in kitchen. Phone signal is also appalling so planning anything was a nightmare and called for a trip to one of the several good pubs within easy walking.

"No free WiFi!"
I simply assumed this would be provided as a basic at a holiday let. I tried to call the Menai Cottages number on Saturday when we arrived but there was no answer. My husband paid to log into a BT hotspot but this was unreliable. Surely if WiFi is not provided it should be very clearly stated so it cannot be missed. The house was clean and comfortable although the garden needed weeding and we cleaned up a pile of cigarette butts left outside and cleared out the drain so the waste water from the washing machine didn’t spill across the patio. A drainer in the kitchen would have been helpful and maybe some dishwasher tablets and a few more cleaning bits and pieces. And a tray!

"We have been staying in self-catering houses for more than 30 years and can safely say this was the cleanest and most generously equipped of them all."
People have commented on the 'old fashioned' decor and furniture but, to be honest, this didn't matter as it was comfortable and provided all the facilities we needed. Our only minor complaint is it would have been good if the clocks worked!

"We have previously stayed in this property & find it to be very comfortable & close to the local amenities, with the added advantage of have a car parking space at the back of the property."
We were pleased to see a new cooker, fridge freezer & washing machine had been installed since the last time we stayed in this property. We were also impressed with the staff from the Menai office, who acted very promptly when we reported the kettle had stopped working & the iron had the cord cut off it & delivered new ones. We will definately stay in this property again, but please put a new lock on the back door which is not really secure & a draft proofing strip down the side of the front door to make it more cosy.

"Bro Dawel is situated in a perfect location being a few steps away from the town centre, pier, castle, pubs and restaurants."
Beaumaris is a beautiful little town just a few minutes drive from the Menai Bridge. Anglesea has everything to offer for an interesting and relaxing holiday - heaps of history, beaches and easy access to the town of Caernarfon and the Snowdonia National Park. The property has its own parking space to the rear of the garden. Everything is perfect.

"Location was fantastic, property was clean and tidy."
Equipment in the property was ok. My constructive criticism is that: 1. the property is very dated in appearance, replace the dated disparate carpets with one colour throughout. 2. Update the light fittings to ones with more modern appearance 3. The 4 Shackletons high seat chairs are really uncomfortable. You’d be able to Get a couple of decent sofas of Facebook market place or eBay for not a lot of money and would be much more comfortable than these chairs. 4. Cooker is very clunky, oven door difficult to shut and just appears old. 5. WiFi. It’s 2021, families especially with children would expect Wi-fi. A monthly Wi-fi would cost buttons and you’re charging £750 a week. The above changes wouldn’t cost much money and would would make a fantastically situated property into a fabulous place

"We had a very enjoyable stay at Bro Dawel."
The house is in a fantastic location in the middle of Beaumaris but it was still quiet and peaceful. The house had everything we needed and was comfortable enough for us as described on the website. Our two girls loved the little bedroom with the dressing table and the back yard which was a real suntrap.
-
"The cottage was very dated, nowhere comfy to sit and in need of updating."
Also had no WIFI coverage. One to avoid

"The house had a great location for exploring Beaumaris and the surrounding countryside."
The house was clean and comfortable but is a little outdated in decor which did not bother us. The cooker is fairly old and the oven was slow to cook which was a little annoying but otherwise we had a lovely stay in Bro Dawel.
-
"This cottage is very outdated, with furniture that must have been bought in the 1950s."
Most cupboards and drawers had wall paper lining them which also must have been put in then. The carpet in the twin room was threadbare.nets at windows which were torn. This cottage has a warm family feel but has had no money or time or love spent on it for years, Fantastic location and had no problems with booking or Menai holidays but just thought anyone booking this cottage should know its a good price for a reason.
-
"The cottage was spotlessly clean, comfortable and was in good location for shops, restaurants and bars in Beaumaris which is a lovely small town."
If I need to be critical, the only downside was that there was no wifi.

"We enjoyed our stay."
Thank you.

"The cottage is warm and well equipped and made a very good base for touring Anglesey."
The parking place is very useful and a reasonably large car fits in OK. However, there is a very bright street light outside the main bedroom windows, which is just out of shot to the left on the photo of the front of the cottage. The curtains are pale coloured and of quite thin fabric, and don't block out any light whatsoever, so if a light bedroom causes problems sleeping this is not an ideal property.

"No hairdryer that I could find."
Duvet on double bed could do with an upgrade.

"The house was shabby, old carpets (worn in the back bedroom and badly joined on the landing), cracks in plaster, badly needs decorating, uncomfortable bed, old charity furniture (which we expected as per listing), condensation between double glazing, it just felt like we were being treated with contempt."
PA testing 3 years out of date with two items, lamp in living room has single insulated cable and microwave has rust inside both failing a visual test (I am a professional and qualified PA tester). Four new armchairs in the lounge were the sit bolt upright type which made relaxing difficult. Certainly not the owners fault but the street was very noisy with passers-by at night and more noisy at dawn when the seagulls awoke!!! On the plus side the off-road parking is a great advantage, the backyard was pleasant, plenty of storage in the kitchen along with utensils, crockery etc, and I have never seen a bidet in a utility room before. Very close to all shops, pubs, restaurants, the Strait, the green and castle. In my opinion this could be a very nice and comfortable house with a bit of investment, but we will not be returning.

"We booked this cottage knowing g it looked dated and we were not wrong ."
The lounge contained four chairs but no co.fy sofa . The lounge clock did not work . The cooker was pretty awful and we basically could only cook on the hob . There were lots of dishes and cutlery which were also very mismatched and aged . There was a lack of cleaning products for us to use to help clean up at the end of our stay . There was not even any soap for hand washing g although some dish detergent was supplied the cleaning cloth was shocking . I wonder what the owners were thinking of . The fridge freezer was fully gu sectional and very dated ad was just about everything else. A lovely Victorian cottage psinted very nicely but let down by the contents. There were numerous heating appliances which worked to keep the house warm . The key system worked well The parking at the back was very tight but absolutely great as there is a parking problem in the area , unless you want to pay . Bedrooms were warm and cosy the beds comfortable but take your own pillows ... plenty of drawer and hanging space . The bathroom was oh so tired but it all worked . And the shower was simple to use . LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION WAS EVERYTHING just around the corner from the castle with shops and pubs and cafes and restaurants with a bus yo take you further into the island .....

"Lovely house just round the corner from the castle."
Have stayed before and would stay again.

"We are returners to Bro Dawel of many years standing."
It gives us most of the comforts of home and we know what to expect. We like the location and the dedicated parking space, which is much valued in Beaumaris. It falls short of the full 5 stars because it is a little old fashioned having no Wifi or full range of TV programs.
-
"Excellent location and it was good to have a parking space in Beaumaris."
However, the cottage itself was VERY old fashioned and basic. We were unsure how it got the 4 star rating. There were loads of cobwebs and daddy long legs in the cottage. The accommodation was very much like our student accommodation. It was nice to have stories for our 4 year old girl - even though they were from a 1969 school reading scheme!

"As previous comments."
Photos on website rather misleading.
We always try and ensure our website descriptions and photographs are as accurate as possible. We know our cottages really well and if you have specific needs our team would be pleased to help you. We are sorry you were disappointed on this occasion. Property Owner

About the location
BEAUMARIS
Menai Bridge 4 miles.
Beaumaris is a well known historic town on the Isle of Anglesey situated on the Menai Strait and overlooking the Snowdonia mountain range, making for the most stunning of sunrises. With its medieval castle (now a World Heritage site) dating back to the reign of Edward I and its Victorian pier, gaol and courthouse, it is also known as a major centre for yachting. Beaumaris is rich in history and retains much of its medieval street pattern. It’s setting, diversity of architectural styles and periods, differing scale, open spaces, varying roofs and overall quality contribute greatly to the town’s character. There is a good selection of shops, restaurants and public houses, as well as fishing opportunities and boat trips in the town, plus a golf course nearby. Along the coast is a large bay called Red Wharf Bay; its Welsh name is Traeth Coch (Red Beach) and the area is renowned for its glorious sunsets. The bay is very shallow and at low tide, almost 25 square kilometres (10 sq. mi.) of sand is uncovered providing safe bathing, perfect for wonderful family fun, fishing and miles of stunning scenic walks. Further afield is the port of Holyhead, which has regular ferry links to Dublin. Beaumaris is a good central base for touring Wales, in a beautiful location on the south coast of the picturesque Isle of Anglesey, within easy reach of the spectacular mountains of Snowdonia.
