"A lovely holiday cottage with a rustic feel."
Carpets on the stairs, landings and bedrooms would have been welcomed as the stairs were extremely noisy. Carpet in the bedrooms would have added a cosy feel. The door handles upstairs, taps on the shower and bath appeared to opperate the opposite to what is normally expected, this caused concern when trying to turn the shower off the first time! To be honest the above is me being picky, as we really enjoyed our stay.

"Lovely well equipped property, clean, spacious and comfy in a beautiful location."
Lots of room for our dog and the enclosed garden to the rear was perfect for him. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend. Thank you for having us. We hope to stay again.

"We really loved the quirky style of the house."
Obviously lots of thought had gone onto the style, furniture, fixtures, bedding, towels. Kitchen was very well equipped, bathroom was lovely and added extras (soap, shampoo etc) gave it a hotel stay feel. Great directions and info re key and bins.

"We loved Gwalia Stores it was a quirky cottage which we loved had everything we needed loads of space and just a short walk to the town."
it was lovely and clean just a little worn in places but that added to the charm of the place we could let our dogs run around without worry did'nt let them in bedrooms tho not allowed at home either. Would recommend the Liverpool Arms for first class food and table service dogs welcome.

"We had a wonderful week at Gwalia Stores."
The cottage suited what we needed exactly. The cottage had a lovely cosy feel but without being too fussy which is what’s needed when you have dogs with you. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything we needed although we did eat out often as Beaumaris has some great pubs and restaurants to eat in. We enjoyed sitting in the small courtyard at the back as it is a real sun trap. The beds were extremely comfortable and we slept very well as it is in a quiet location. There is a short walk to the main road where there’s plenty of variety and choice for such a small place. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are already looking to book again next year.
Thanks for your feedback, Nicola. Delighted that you enjoyed your stay and looking forward to welcoming you back again next year. Property Owner

"Very convenient and dog friendly property."
Beaumaris is a good base for an Anglesey holiday. Parking not an issue for us but may be trickier in high season. Log burner and shower worked well for us although I see problems mentioned in previous reviews. User error? It would have helped if it had mentioned in the property description that towels were provided - this needs amending. (It’s impossible to contact Sykes with a simple question - no reply email addresses, unhelpful recorded messages etc. my query re towels sent on the app via the online form was eventually answered 3 days into the holiday!) Beds at Gwalia were very comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. Liked the history of the place and eventually worked out that the Spitfire was responsible for the photo on the landing. Would happily return.

"Beautiful cottage and our third visit as a nice quiet comfortable location."
Comfy beds for a good night's sleep and a well equipped kitchen. Lots of additional items provided to enhance your stay in the kitchen and plenty of room for a family. Downside shower still not warm enough may need tweaking. Hope to return soon.
Thanks Tara - glad you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to welcoming you back again. Property Owner

"We stayed at Gwalia Stores for a week over Christmas, with our large lurcher doggo."
The accommodation had everything we needed for our week away and we loved every minute. Large rooms with plenty of space - there was only two of us and the dog but there would have been more than enough space for four people and more dogs. A small enclosed back yard was perfect for a dog that can easily jump a 4’ fence

"Lovely cosy cottage, plenty of seating for 5 adults, wonderful comfy beds and a well equipped kitchen."
The location was perfect for a wander to the bakery, the gaol, the castle and the fabulous shops in town. Only downside was the WiFi was a bit slow. Think that’s a Beaumaris issue rather than the property. Otherwise a wonderful place to stay and we will definitely be back next summer.
Thanks for your great feedback. Yes, slow WiFi is a Beaumaris-wide issue, I think. Looking forward to welcoming you back for your next stay. Property Owner

"A beautiful quirky property."
We’d definitely return. Excellent location. Ideal to explore the local area. Kitchen really well equipped. Rooms really spacious.
Thanks for your feedback, Lisa. Really glad you enjoyed your stay and we hope to welcome you back again soon. Property Owner

"It was our second visit and an extremely relaxing and comfortable stay."
Many additional items to assist with your stay for self catering in the kitchen. A fantastic base for a family break in a quiet position and good value for money. Unfortunately the glass had been broken by previous occupants on the Woodburner therefore we were unable to use it. This was one of the main reasons for booking the cottage and our second visit so was disappointed this couldn't be used or fixed whilst there. I would suggest some of the cooking items be replaced as getting worn but still useable. Looking forward to returning for our third visit with the Woodburn.
Glad you still enjoyed your stay, Tara. Thanks for your feedback. We will definitely make sure the wood burner is up and running again when you next stay. We will also upgrade the cooking items shortly. Looking forward to welcoming you back again soon. Property Owner

"Great location, lovely property, well equipped for a comfortable stay."

"A lovely, quirky little place with loads of touches of its past life as a local corner store to keep us interested when we weren’t out enjoying the beautiful local seaside town and excellent shops."
Possibly the friendliest area we’ve stayed yet and day two we had all shrugged off any vestiges of hurried townie and relaxed into the lovely relaxed beat of Beaumaris. Managed to do one awesome thing a day without travelling more than ten miles from our little store and there are so many great pubs and restaurants that even though I ran every morning amongst the wonderful scenery to offset them I’ve probably put half a stone on but don’t care it was worth it. Side note we had one small problem with a light switch which the owner immediately rectified. We will definitely return here
Thanks so much for your feedback, Peter. Glad you had such a nice time. We shall look forward to welcoming you back! Property Owner

"Have stayed in sykes property's several times Gwalia Store great location minutes walk from the attractions pubs and shops."
The property is spacious large dining and living area three good size bedrooms and a large bathroom ideal for a family. Could do with a repaint and possibly more comfortable seating in the living area other than that it's a lovely place for a break
-
"Lovely unusual property!"
Had everything we needed for a comfortable stay very centrally located in Beaumaris.
Thanks for the positive feedback, Bethany. Glad you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

Garden was basic , there was no broom or hoover to use in property, fridge was too small parking was a challenge at times , no clear information about recycling we had to sort recycling which was full so it would be taken on send day , we had great holiday in this property
-
"The property is great and full of character."
But really didn’t appreciate having to clean up another dogs poo from the small yard before our dog could go out there
-
"Loved this accommodation so much we are coming again in May 2024."
Great location for the bakery, bars and restaurants and the pier and Castle.
-
"A quirky, unusual property with a lovely open living space, perfect for sociable sharing."
Lovely mix of old and new.
-
"Lovely property, close to all amenities Had everything we needed for a break away."
Weather was awful so grateful for games and puzzles in property.
Thanks for your feedback, Caroline, and glad you had everything you needed - hopefully you’ll get better weather if you stay again! Property Owner

"A lovely place to stay for our short break in Angelsey."
Ideally situated for a short walk to the main street. Gwalia Stores is comfortable and well equipped property which was perfect for our party of 5 adults and our dogs. Just loved the quirkiness of the place, from the original large shop windows the large cupboards in the kitchen. We could not have asked for a better place to stay on our first holiday in Anglesey. We would definitely like to stay at the property again and would recommend to friends and family. Thank you Gwalia Stores.
Thanks Stuart. Delighted that you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to welcoming you back. Best wishes, Charles Property Owner

"Beautiful comfortable cottage in a nice quiet location."
Everything catered for with extra kitchen supplies to make the stay complete. Beds extremely comfy and our dog loved her first holiday here. Only downside was having to come home after a weeks stay there. Can't wait to return.
Delighted that you enjoyed your stay, Tara. Look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Best wishes, Charles Property Owner

The log burner is dangerous we lit it and the whole place filled with smoke due to loose door and flue had to open windows and doors on a freezing cold evening/no welcome pack as stated
Thank you for your feedback. The log burner was checked out by an engineer following your stay and was found to be working properly. It is serviced regularly in line with requirements and the appropriate safety certificates are obtained. Property Owner

"I booked this cottage for my 60th birthday as it looked quirky and we know where it was situated as we visit Anglesey frequently."
The property was listed as suitable for pets but what wasn’t made clear was that there was no means of securing the dogs downstairs. The stairs have high steps and unfortunately our dachshund made a bid for freedom up the stairs and then fell down them. Thankfully he was not seriously hurt but we were not prepared to take the chance of further incidents so left the property on Sunday. If we had not got dogs this would have been a delightful place to stay but possibly you need to explain to any dog owner the layout of the cottage or provide a gate that can be left open or closed

"We have just had a fantastic holiday stopping at Gwalia Stores, loved the property and original features and would highly recommend staying there."
Close to the centre of Beaumaris which is a beautiful town. Will definitely be going back for another visit.
Thanks Julie. So glad you enjoyed your holiday at Gwalia Stores. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Property Owner

"Stayed for a week as a couple with one dog."
The accommodation was spacious, with a well equipped kitchen. Very minor but would have benefitted from some low lighting/lamps downstairs for sitting in the evening. The location was perfect. Close to the centre of Beaumaris but very quiet. Parking was never an issue - we always managed to find a slot. Enjoyed staying here as a base for exploring beautiful Anglesey!
-
"We had a great holiday, the property was excellent for two dogs & two children."
The location was fab! Cleanliness was okay...but we had to wash all the crockery as it was not clean. The floors were very dusty and dirty...however we know that this was a dog friendly house. The yard outside was quite smelly (from other dogs) - would you consider putting a hose outside for people to wash the outside floor before they leave? The kitchen was well stocked but with accommodation for 6 people you need a much bigger fridge. An extra front door key would have been a great help. Overall we had a great stay and will be back (with our dogs & children). Thank you.

"We had such a lovely stay at Gwalia Stores, the house is so well equipped we didn't want for anything."
Perfectly placed in Beaumaris, which is a lovely place to be based on the Menai Strait and to explore Anglesey. The Central Bakery is a must to visit too. Lots of great places to eat, The Pier House Cafe and Bistro and Jolly's Coffee House were a couple of our favourites.
-
"Ace location, beautiful house, thoughtfully laid out and equipped."
Highly recommend, in fact already have, and hope to come back again!
-
"Really nice place to stay for a holiday."
Clean and spacious and well equipped kitchen. Very comfortable bedrooms. Not a complaint just a note,, quite steep stairs if your holidaying with elderly or young. Would stay here again Dave and Sarah
-
"Wonderful stay, cottage in great location and had everything we needed."
Would definitely recommend
-
"We enjoyed our stay in Gwalia Stores."
Well equipped kitchen.
-
"Lovely quirky property, just as described."
A fabulous open kitchen and dining area for everyone to be together if eating in. We stayed as 4 adults, a child and a dog and would recommend. The house had everything we needed, and is close to the centre of Beaumaris - a lovely weekend break!
-
"Delightful and spacious."
Within 5 minutes of entering, we knew we would book again.
-
"The photos of the property are true ; well designed with lots of nice touches and great amount of space."
Well equipped , 5 mins to the local Spar and Beaumaris High St. Parking wasn't an issue either. The listing did state that logs etc would be provided - they weren't which was disappointing- but the accommodation made up for this . Immaculately clean and an imaginative designed property. It would be nice to leave guests a guide book on the area/ an OS map and also - tell people about the Spitfire !! It's an amazing story !!
-
"The cottage has bags of character and lots of space."
two minutes to the beach and pubs/restaurants.
-
"Really centrally located and lovely to be near the bakery."
Comfortable stay but incredibly noisy stairs! It would have been nice to have more instructions in the manual eg name of WiFi (not just the password) what to do with the linen etc.
-
"The Gwalia store was spacious, comfortable and a Great location The property information sheets stated you will find some fire lighters, kindling and logs for your use these were not available."
You will need to replace the can openers as the two available don’t work
-
"We've stayed here several times now as love Gwalia Stores and Beaumaris!"
I have previously suggested more lamps downstairs would be good for ambience and practically for reading at night. However we simply move some fropm upstairs and return them when we leave. I also bring a couple of large serving spoons with me as these are kitchen essentials which are missing! Otherwise all great but sorry to see the lovely original cart coffee table has been replaced by a more run of the mill one. Looking forward to our next trip :)
-
"Loved this place really quirky, great location but stairs were really steep for 2 small children and outside space disappointing."
Beautiful bedrooms and really comfy beds with lots of storage space. On street parking was a challenge. Would of liked downstairs toilet. Would book again though as has a lovely few days and weather was great too.
-
"Lovely holiday home - perfectly met our needs - 2 adults plus dog :) We love Beaumaris as a place to stay and due to the escalating corona virus epidemic, it was great to have somewhere we could enjoy cooking and staying put for the evenings."
-
"Gwalia Stores is a great place to stay, decorated in a quirky manner, the photos are true to form."
The owner really easy to contact. Its located in an ideal spot, we had 3 cars with us and no issue in parking outside the property. It was just a quick 5 min walk to the centre of Beaumaris/sea front. Weather was changeable for the weekend and we found the property a welcoming home out of the rain! Ideal place for lighting the fire and playing board games with a glass of wine.
-
"A wonderful quirky property where the owners have put in a lot of attention to detail"
-
"This place is very good."
Everything is there especially the kitchen, but also for children. A few "snags" but I am sure they will be sorted out. Parking is a bit of a nightmare in the high season. The Bishop Hotel restaurant can be recommended - superb food and service. Enjoy the excellent places.
-
"Lovely accommodation, couple of minutes walk into town centre"
-
"Gwalia Stores is everything it is in the photos and more."
It has the wow factor and the owners have a great eye for detail. It is perfect for a family and even considers dogs (dog bowls provided!) The location couldn’t be better and parking was never an issue. We have already booked the house for a return visit.

About the location
BEAUMARIS
Menai Bridge 4 miles.
Beaumaris is a well known historic town on the Isle of Anglesey situated on the Menai Strait and overlooking the Snowdonia mountain range, making for the most stunning of sunrises. With its medieval castle (now a World Heritage site) dating back to the reign of Edward I and its Victorian pier, gaol and courthouse, it is also known as a major centre for yachting. Beaumaris is rich in history and retains much of its medieval street pattern. It’s setting, diversity of architectural styles and periods, differing scale, open spaces, varying roofs and overall quality contribute greatly to the town’s character. There is a good selection of shops, restaurants and public houses, as well as fishing opportunities and boat trips in the town, plus a golf course nearby. Along the coast is a large bay called Red Wharf Bay; its Welsh name is Traeth Coch (Red Beach) and the area is renowned for its glorious sunsets. The bay is very shallow and at low tide, almost 25 square kilometres (10 sq. mi.) of sand is uncovered providing safe bathing, perfect for wonderful family fun, fishing and miles of stunning scenic walks. Further afield is the port of Holyhead, which has regular ferry links to Dublin. Beaumaris is a good central base for touring Wales, in a beautiful location on the south coast of the picturesque Isle of Anglesey, within easy reach of the spectacular mountains of Snowdonia.
