  • "What a fantastic find, I booked last minute to take my dogs away during firework weekend, best decision ever."

Great communication from Lisa the owner from start to finish. Property was beautiful and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Garden secure and could just let the dogs out to play without worrying. Peaceful and easy to get to. Visited Newborough beach whilst there, only a 15 minute drive. Will definitely be back.

  • "We had a fantastic week staying in Mynydd Parys."

The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped. Our border collie, aged 2, really enjoyed the garden, which is safe. The location of the cottage is absolutely great with amenities near by such as Co-Op, pub (although we didn't not use it), city of Bangor, which is 15 mins drive, and great outdoor activities. We will definitely recommend Mynydd Parys, and we are looking forward to returning for another holiday.

We would love to welcome you and your collie back to Mynydd Parys. Property Owner

  • "We very much enjoyed the cottage, ideal for family and dogs."

We would say though that we were very concerned by the very smelly fumes from the boiler in the kitchen especially with a baby with us. I would suggest that it needs an urgent service. I'm aware that the owner suggests that it smells different from gas boilers in their welcome notes but we HAVE oil boilers ourselves and they certainly don't smell so bad. It was very unpleasant at times. Otherwise all good.

We do service the boiler regularly and it has been checked a number of times due to the smell. We have been reassured that there is no problem with the boiler. The smoke alarms and CO2 sensors are also checked regularly. Property Owner

Directions given were spot on. Cottage has lots of utensils in the kitchen. Comfy beds, great hot showers. Good fence to keep the dogs in the garden. Lots of lovely places to visit within 20 min drive. I would go back if it was cleaned better. Only down side was it could do with a good deep clean. Dirt on the bottom of radiator in ensuite was particular dirty. Skirtings could do with good wipe. We didn't use the BBQ because again needed a clean.

Not forgetting the antics of the rabbits in the field which was always entertaining. It was a lovely peaceful place to stay, well equipped and clean. It’s a good place to travel around from and we’d certainly stay again if it’s available. Lisa the owner contacted us with details before we travelled which was very helpful too.

Unlike other reviews, we found the cottage to be very warm and heating easy to control. We were told beforehand to maybe expect problems with the WiFi as an engineer was due but we had no issues at all. The showers were excellent. !... but can mention it was a nightmare from minutes of entry... was not comfortable with 5pm check in (time of year, pitch black) but went with it because didn't expect what would go wrong! My party was slightly different with partner disability plus unexpected illness of my elderly gorgeous westie dog.. when I could NOT get heating on 20th January '24 in middle of storm ashia? Arriving in darkness. I THOUGHT It my lack of digital knowledge, things too 2024? NO.. heating Broken...No WiFi & unfortunately NO phone signal??!! We slept in coats that night! My partner was scared he die of hyperthermia? So blah blah...over 24hrs later/with some up road calls & calls off customer service being condescending and also to totally cut story short the heating was on/heaven!!! But unfortunately WiFi never solved & personal phone signal never happened! "Me &mine; holiday was ruined! /didn't get over it! Oh yeh.....let's not forget the £50 goodwill gesture

Thank you for taking the time to write some feedback on your experience at Mynydd Parys. We are extremely sorry that you arrived in darkness and this caused you some difficulties. The property is equipped with motion sensor outdoor lighting, however the owner has taken your difficulties into consideration and has now brought the check-in times forward to 3pm to avoid any future guest discomfort. Unfortunately, as with many rural properties, not all mobile network signals can be guaranteed. We have now noted this on our webpage for future guests to be aware. With regard to the Wi-Fi, the team here at Menai Holidays tried to contact you via various communication channels in the week prior to your stay, to advise you that there was an external issue with BT which was sadly out of the owner's control. The owners genuinely want guests to enjoy their time at their property and were hoping to give you the chance to amend your booking, however you informed us that this would not be a problem. I am extremely sorry that on checking in and finding that the heating was not on, you did not choose to contact the Menai team using the 24 hour guest helpline although this was difficult given the connectivity issues. This phone line is dedicated to assisting guests at our properties who may need this kind of service. We have dedicated team of staff, maintenance personnel and tradespeople on hand to assist with these sorts of issues. I am pleased that when you made the call on the first morning we were able to get the heating back on for you the same day. We are extremely sorry that you were both faced with such an uncomfortable first night. Menai Holidays were happy to offer you a refund amount exceeding 10% of the rental as compensation for this initial discomfort. I am extremely sorry that on this occasion you have been left feeling let down by our service. This is not the level of guest satisfaction we strive to achieve, please do reach out to us should we be able to improve your experience further. On this occasion the owner of the property did everything in their power to ensure that you had an enjoyable stay at their property. Please accept our sincere apologies that you weren't able to receive our communications sooner and as a result this has led to a disappointing holiday which has not met the enjoyable experience we aim to provide all our guests. Sincerest apologies and thank you for raising this, The Menai Team. Property Owner

Very clean. We appreciated the welcome package, thank you. A good base for exploring this beautiful island and also for visiting Snowdonia. We chose the cottage partly for its accessibility and were mainly happy with this aspect. Two quibbles - the sofa is far too soft, squishy, lacking support, and difficult for those of us with back 'issues' to get up from. Just one chair offers more support. There are also no small tables on which to place cups of tea and coffee, entailing one to reach down to the floor (difficult for those in 'advancing years').

Many thanks for your kind feedback. We have added a small nest of tables on your suggestion. Property Owner

The place is really very well kept, has lovely views from the enclosed garden and is ever so peaceful. Fantastic pre-arrival information from Sykes and the owners. There is a lovely pub (Y Groeslon) a 15 min walk away in town, great for an evening drink and game of pool. Also pay a visit to the cafe (Heritage Siop Coffi) when its open (Thurs-Sat) as we had one of the best snack/ meals from there. Smart TV and FireTV stick are provided and all streaming services work well as does terrestrial TV. Internet speed is excellent so any teenagers will be happy, but a wifi extender would be beneficial to ensure a good signal in all bedrooms (This was our second stay and we took our own, placed it behind the TV and this worked perfectly) We will certainly be back.

Thanks for your lovely feedback and we hope to welcome you again. We taken your suggestion and added a Wi-Fi extender to help with the thick walls. Property Owner

It is near Newborough and 4 of our party had a lovely 6 mile walk through the forest and onto the beach on the only nice day. I have mobility problems but as everything is on the same level and it was easy for my husband to pick me up at the door I found this very convenient, The coffee shop in the village was closed due to holidays but we drove to various places including Red Wharf Bay where we had a very nice meal at The Ship.

One the better properties I have stayed at. The sofa is very low in the lounge, the beds are super comfortable, the layout of the place is very well designed. Pets owners, the garden is not fully enclosed, if your pet is determined it can get out at the bottom of the garden, like mine did, luckily after 45 mins we got our pet back as she took to the farmers field. This will not stop me booking again, and maybe the owner could take a look to secure this weak spot. Anglesey great place stay, accessible to great places to visit.

  • "When we arrived at the property there was no heating on, someone had switched it off so we had to wait for a response from Sykes Cottages to sort it out as it wasn't straightforward how to switch it on due to the oil boiler."

The name mentioned as the first contact point said she knew nothing about the heating and we had to phone a different number, which wasn't easy as the signal was quite poor. Finally we got this sorted and we could start to relax. When we started to cook our evening meal, we found that the oven was so filthy you would not want to use it. We are keen cooks and we chose this property because it looked so well equipped and a lovely kitchen to cook in. This was a real disappointment, however Sykes Cottages did send someone out the next day to clean it but merely gave it a wipe out which we could have done ourselves. What it really needed was a professional clean with oven cleaner. Then, when finally unpacking, we found a tube of rectal cream with opened applicator in the bathroom cupboard. I'm sure you can imagine how this made us feel. So all in all, our stay there was not as expected at all and we did feel really disappointed. On a plus note, the cottage is very cosy and comfortable, the views are spectacular, especially when the cows came into the back field. But for the reasons mentioned above we would not stay in this property. I can also add that the cleanliness of the bathrooms could be better, as could the quality of the towels. If you are really keen on booking the place, it would be worth a phone call beforehand to check that these issues have been resolved.

Mrs Dennis, we are extremely sorry that you were disappointed with some aspects of your stay. Unfortunately, the controls on the boiler had been changed. However, following a quick call on the day of your arrival we were able to resolve and get the heating back on. Thanks to your comments we will include additional instructions to the handbook to avoid this occurring in the future. Obviously, the standard of cleaning was not good enough on this occasion for which we sincerely apologise. We are disappointed that you had to experience these problems and thank you for bringing these to our attention. We have put further measures in place to rectify such issues. Property Owner
