  • "My main gripe is that the property was advertised as sleeping 14 but only had beds for 13."

Consequently one of our party had to sleep on a sofa for the whole week. This is a case of false advertising. The premises wasn't clean, cobwebs all over the stairs. The blinds throughout the house were broken or difficult to use. The kitchen had only 6 teaspoons. No egg cups. The frying pan supplied doesn't work on the induction hob. A bedroom door on the first floor wouldn't close. No wardrobe facilities throughout the house. In the 3 bedded room there was two sets of drawers. The front of every drawer pulled away from the drawer when trying to the open them. there was a stained and dirty bed throw in one of the bedrooms. There was no recycling facility available. All our rubbish had to go in the large bin outside the house. The wooden gates to the property are rotten and difficult to open or close. With young children in our party this was a safety issue as the drive opened out on to a main road. A house of this size should have a washing machine and a dryer. Using the same towels for a whole week without being able to wash or dry them is unhygenic.

  • "Had a very nice stay at the old coal yard."

The house is lovely. My only criticism is that the beds are a little uncomfortable. Apart from that everything else is perfect.

  • "The house is great, perfect for a big family."

Location is great. The house was clean. A few snags so it’s obviously well used. I contacted the number given in the visitors information book as the bottom over didn’t seem to work but no reply. Maybe the book was out of date so may need reviewing. £700 per night seems expensive on reflection. Overall it was a good stay and enjoyed.

  • "DIY has been neglected."

Broken tiles, broken blinds, stair case has raised planks, table legs screws missing, picture frame cracked etc. Cleaning standards very poor. One of the children lost a phone. This meant we lifted each cushion, moved each piece of furniture. On the sofas lots of food, hair and debris found which had built up over visits. The stairs are hazardous. We noted a lot of reviews had been taken out of the visitor book-this is a concern. Kitchen well stocked with utensils. Upstairs lounge - satisfactory. Beds - ok for 1 or 2 nights only. Parking good for 3 cars. Location ideal for the village and the beach. WiFi good connection. Dishwasher did not always clean the dishes well.

  • "We had a lovely weekend staying at this property with family."

It is open plan and spacious. It has an enclosed outdoor space, comfy upstairs lounge, great views from upstairs living room and balcony. Space for 3 cars in driveway. The baby gates were useful to keep the dog downstairs. Dog friendly. Nice village. 5 min walk to beach. Fish and chip shop. A few pubs and small Morrisons a few minutes walk down the high st. 40 min drive from Bangor. The postcode for the property took us all to the wrong place. Clearer instructions would be helpful. The property is on the high street next to the dr surgery. Suggestions for small improvements More storage space for food in kitchen/ only one narrow cupboard empty, more storage space in bedrooms, bin in toilets, a small plate snd cup were chipped, I think some of the beds were 3/4 beds not doubles? Outdoor bin full on arrival. Couldn’t locate any recycling. The toilet door hit the light fitting ( double room with cot).

  • "Property excellent for a large group plenty of space and really lovely."

We were bit disappointed as on pictures it showed a BBQ and there was a gas cylinder but no BBQ? Rang no given to enquire, no answer or return call to advise. The outside space definitely needs some TLC. No plants nothing to make it look pretty and a very grubby shed with all settee cushions in. The beds in all rooms were supremely uncomfortable they defo need attention maybe a mattress topper? We had a great time and property in little village with local pub, fish n chip shop and small convenience store. We would stay again but would pray for the above small changes ☺️

Thank you for choosing to stay at The Old Coal Yard and we are glad that you had a great time at the property. The gas BBQ is now in place for our guests and we note your comments about the outside space. The comfort level of the beds has been reviewed and mattress toppers put in place. Menai Holidays offer an out of ours point of contact for all guests. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future. Property Owner

  • "- Not enough cutlery for Everyone to eat together."

    - broken plastic toys need to be checked regularly as they can be hazardous - hair found on the bed probably due to the long pile carpets which are not idea for this type of property. - mattress stored under the bunk needs a sheet as it’s not usable and isn’t clean - overall a good size property needing a bit of TLC.

  • "Overall the house and location is great, very comfortable with a great layout."

We loved the space, views and comfortable furnishings. In our view the property is not as well maintained as it should be (windows don’t close well, bathroom shower is ok but needs a new head, external furniture needs replacing, just general items for example instructions are out of date - book vs internet eg exit time is either 10 or 11 (seems to have been moved from 11 to 10am). I informed of a breakage in advance by email however I received no response which seems unusual. The cleaning could be a bit better, but is provided by local contractors who might not be too bothered by the detail? The comments people leave seem to take a long time to fix or sort, eg the Xbox doesn’t work, which might seem trivial although some might rely on this as it is advertised. There are no clothes washing facilities or drying space/hangers etc. in our experience most properties of this size (near to a beach) have such facilities for the colder /wetter months. Nothing major but we would return if improved.
