  • "Great cottage."

The listing on Sykes website was unclear about wi-fi. One part said there was WiFi, another part of the listing said there was no WiFi. We took the risk and booked. There is wifi, its not a strong connection in the master bedroom. You should get the listing cleaned up to avoid doubt. We found an armchair broken, reported it to the caretaker. Not a problem to us, but could have been bad for an elderly person sitting in it. Otherwise fantastic.

Also very nicely presented. The views of the mountains are spectacular. However there are a few things that need improvement. There is a lack of useful utensils in the kitchen, such as no small vegetable knife, no steamer basket, and no microwave cookware. There are still issues with the cooker - timer knob is broken, and extractor light not working. On the plus side, 5 corkscrews are available! The plug in the bathroom basin would not stay down, and the bathroom extractor fan was not working. In spite of all these niggly issues, we did enjoy our stay.

Just how we like it. We felt the Cosy Barn could benefit from a good clean and some tlc. Much of the information provided is out of date and of little help. The fact that there is no access to Wi-Fi is inconvenient in todays climate.we did feel in the circumstances the rental costs were on the high side. However we did enjoy our holiday .Best Wishes Peter and Jennie Smith

Hi Peter and Jennie. Thank you for your feedback on Cosy Barn and the positive manner in which it was written. We will take on board your comments. We have already spoken to our local house manager regarding cleanliness as this is a high priority for us. We are now looking at installing a wi-fi system as you are correct in that the climate almost makes it a necessity. I wondered if you would be able to provide us with a bit more information on the TLC to help us with understanding what else we may need to do to bring the barn to a better standard. • "The cosy barn lived up to its name."

We had a perfect stay. The weather wasn't kind for us whilst there but the barn was comfortable and pleasant to stay in whilst the rain broke. An absolute stunning view of the mountains from the garden. All amenities where catered for. The beds where really comfortable. The showers and bath were very luxurious too. But there is no WiFi. That is totally my fault as I just presumed it would have it. It doesn't advertise that it does have it, it was an over site on my behalf. And being out in the sticks our phone reception wasn't the best. So trying to Google anything was a bit of a nightmare. Although there are plenty of leaflets and information to hand in the barn. We would definitely return to this barn with the hope the weather would be a bit kinder to us next time

Hi Laura Thank you for your comments on Cosy Barn. We are glad that you had a good holiday. We are taking on board your comments regarding Wi-Fi and will be installing a system in the near future. Hopefully if you do decide to return the system will be in place. Martin Property Owner

Lovely and warm. Slightly dusty. Very well and tastefully equipped. Observations: Range needs attention. One oven door not closing properly, one control broken and one oven control illegible. Didn’t worry us but some clients might want a more modern TV in the small bedroom. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, thank you.

Hi Vanessa Thank you for your comments on Cosy Barn. Sorry for the belated response. We appreciate you taking the time to write a review and wanted to let you know that we have taken on board your comments regarding the range. The range needs some new components and we have a local company ordering them with a view to carrying out the repairs soon. Thanks again. Martin Property Owner

A great get away from it all location. The only things that could have been better were the kitchen, some of the dials had worn away so difficult to get the correct cooking temperature. Cooking utensils were a bit old and some missing items such as cheese grater. There was no recycling bins in the house and no Wi fi. On the whole though we very much enjoyed our stay.

The Barn is amazing, but needs the repairs from previous reviews completing, especially the oven, which is a simple catch. There is no welcome pack, which usual with Sykes Cottages, only 1 loo roll, which isnt a problem as long as you are pre warned. Only 1 bath towel per person? No hand towels. We were able to wash them, but were lucky to get them dried. Overall it was an amazing stay, close to an amazing Beach and Forest at Newborough and the points noted were not complaints just tips.

  • "Cosy Barn was fabulous!"

The location is stunning! The property is very well equipped especially the kitchen. Lovely large dining table. Televisions in both bedrooms as well as the living room. Our only criticism is mainly with regard to the furniture. The wicker chairs are not comfortable and the leather sofa too low and has lost any firmness so not comfortable. The beds also not the best. Bed linen looked very old and was not ironed so looked very shabby. (Perhaps worth saying we are all over 60 years of age!) The main bathroom was lovely, spacious and had both a lovely roll top bath and separate shower. Exceptionally clean and modern. The en suite sink was much too small and not really fit for purpose. We had a problem with the waste not working and a very slow escape of water. Angharad was swiftly there to release the plug but in doing so the waste leaked and required us putting a bowl under it. Another hand towel (preferably larger) for each bathroom would have been nice. We also felt that the guide for the property needed updating. We could not operate the television in the living room as it had a Viewbox and we had no hot water as we did not realise we had to switch it on. More details in the guide would have prevented poor Angharad having to come out to us on Sunday evening and again the following day when we had no hot water. These issues did not prevent us having an amazing five days at Cosy Barn and we were extremely lucky with excellent weather. The outside space is stunning. Could not fault the housekeeper Angharad she was so nice and responded swiftly to our calls for help. We would love to return to Cosy Barn and Angelsey. (Hopefully some comfortable seating!).

Enjoyed the wood burner, brought our own logs and collected tinder and kindling in the local forest we visited. There was everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We left a list of little maintenance jobs that we spotted, that would elevate the property. The dinner plates were small, portion control sized! There were no instruction manuals for any equipment in the house, fortunately we could work things out. Missed having a washing line to hang wetsuits on to dry and the broken clothes airier I understand is going to be replaced soon. We enjoyed the lovely deep bath. It was a perfect location for us.

Hi Thank you for your feedback it is very welcome The barn has never had wi-fi but we are now considering having it installed. Not sue why the lights in the lounge were not working during your stay, we will investigate. There should have been milk, tea and coffee at the barn when you arrived. This is normally a part of the welcome pack. We will ensure this is resolved and can only apologise this was not available for your visit. Property Owner

  • "After staying at Cosy Barn multiple times over a number of years, whilst the accommodation was clean, we've noticed that some of the facilities in the kitchen definitely now need updating - one of the cooker hob knobs came off (looks like it had previously been secured with blu tack), the fridge now soaks contents with water (ruining food in the salad container), crockery chipped & utensils need replacing (fish slice melted etc)."

Little things like batteries needing to be replaced in the tv / free view / dvd remote controls need addressing. This property is marketed at a premium price so the above plus the lack of WiFi (not acceptable for modern living) means unfortunately we'll be choosing to stay elsewhere on Anglesey in the future

Curious cows greeted us some mornings to say “hello”. Sheep and bunnies frolicked in the fields. There was a crafty fox, too. The location was super quiet apart from the occasional train going by in the distance. The accommodation was clean and, of course, COSY! Excellent water pressure and the bath was heaven! There was a tiny little hiccup with the hot water, but that was immediately sorted with a call to the caretaker who was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay there again. It’s a great place to get away from it all. Could easily spend an entire week just at the Cosy Barn and not go anywhere else if you really needed the peace and quiet. Very tranquil setting despite there being a few other residents nearby. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

We felt that the barn needed some updating and some attention needed in places The weather was terrible it rained it was windy and cold most of the week there was no complimentary basket of logs which was disappointing and no welcome pack. .There was no Manuel's on how to work the kitchen appliances. When we arrived the TV wasn't working and we had to ring Mrs Beown (Housekeeper) she got in touch with Menai cottages and they sent a maintenance chap who fixed the problem apparently the TV was temperamental according to Mrs Brown but no instructions on how to use it because we didn't have to use the TV remote it was the TV box remote that we had to use . Cosy Barn has a lot going for it its in a nice location and it's a shame these things let it down. .

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad that we were easily able to resolve the small issue that you encountered with the TV. Property Owner

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Cosy Barn in Anglesey."

It is in a lovely location overlooking the Welsh mountains yet close to great beaches such as Newborough, Rhosneigr and Lligwy. Furnishings in the barn were comfortable and the bedding was clean. The kitchen was well stocked and all the equipment such as fridge, cooker, microwave, dishwasher etc worked well. There's a good size main bathroom with roll top bath and shower. The ensuite bathroom had an excellent shower although we found the sink was too small to have a good wash. We were very grateful to the owner for returning my daughter's house keys, mistakenly left in the key cupboard after our stay. A few points we would like to mention which could easily be implemented to improve our stay even more, (and have already been mentioned in the 'comments book' in the barn by other people who've stayed), are as follows:- 1. It was cold when we first entered the the barn and it took a couple of days for it to get to a reasonable temperature. We feel the radiators in the lounge area need bleeding for them to work more efficiently and radiators could be switched on earlier. 2. Recycling bins could be provided so that waste can be disposed of properly. 3. We thought In this day and age WiFi would be a given!!! 4. A few cobwebs and dust on light shades and inside ornaments need attention. We would love to return to Cosy Barn again, maybe later in the year when the weather is warmer. We could then take full advantage of the garden and sit out on the patio and admire the view.

The biggest let down was due to cleanliness. Kitchen sink, cooker, worktops dirty had to clean all before use. En suite shower cubicle screen dirty full of soap scum, sink and front of cupboard, tiles around area had previous guests toothpaste stains as did the glass cup above the sink. Bathroom also needed a good clean. Could really do with a thorough clean and especially in current circumstances definitely needs better level of cleanliness after each guests.

It lives up to its name of Cosy Barn. The views from the back of the cottage of the Snowdonia mountain range were outstanding. The cottage is well furnished and appointed and apart from the odd cobweb (it is a barn conversion after all) was very clean. The end of our holiday came all too soon and we were reluctant to leave, however we have re-booked a return visit next year and looking forward to it. All told we have used Sykes before and have found their cottages to be of a very high standard and reasonably priced and in this respect Cosy Barn did not disappoint.

  • "I can't believe no one has contacted me personally."

I keep getting emails from you about prize drawer entries, and what I want is an apology and compensation for the situation that, I hope, you know about. Briefly, we were told that the dishwasher and washer were not working on the day before we went on holiday. We only booked this place because of the appliances in it. Now I accept that accidents happen, and you can't always do anything about them, but we have had no contact from anyone on your team, even though I was personally promised updates on the situation and compensation. Indeed, on the day you phoned to tell me about the breakages (May 31st 3.30pm we went June 1st), I asked you to ring me back with a compensation offer, and no one called. I had to call your office the next day! I have checked my credit card account, and to date, no compensation has been given. I don't expect to pay £600 for a house without a dishwasher and washer/dryer. I have already given my feedback in the visitors book, and an email that arrived yesterday from you, asking for my feedback. This is the third time I have written all this. Would someone do something about it please?! Ironically, we have another holiday booked with you in July. We have been long and loyal customers of Sykes, but I will be thinking twice about using you again in the future. The results above reflect the cottage as we saw it. It wasn't accurately listed as there were two broken appliances, it wasn't comfortable as we were left one dish cloth and only two tea towels, and obviously the facilities therefore, were poor. The cottage itself was very clean, although there is a terrible damp smell coming from the washer that is broken.

We are so sorry once again that the appliances could not be fixed prior to your arrival and we are pleased that we could resolve the matter satisfactorily. Both appliances are now in full working order. Property Owner
