"Whilst this cottage is attractive in itself as a building, and the location is fabulous, it falls short in several ways."
. It’s not clean Issues mentioned by other people who have stayed at the cottage have not been remedies – for example the fridge door has nowhere where you can stand up milk or wine or juice There is no welcome back. No rubbish bins anywhere. there’s lots of clutter around
-
"Loved the quirkiness of the cottage."
The location is lovely. Very calming and peaceful. Had a small problem with the hot water but this was quickly sorted out. Would highly recommend this cottage and would definitely stay again.
-
"Lovely cottage, it had everything you could possibly want, I had a great holiday"
-
"The house wasnt very clean, there were loose floorboards in bedroom, a light in kitchen that doesnt turn off, the fridge had door shelves missing for milk etc."
, there was no hot water for pots etc.,a man had been on Wednesday to sort it but it was still not working. The house is hard to find, a sign on the first gate would help, the walk from the cottage to the beach was inaccesible without trespassing on a private drive.
Hello William, I will pass your comments on to the cleaner. Can you specify which areas require attention please? The drive you speak of is Three Gates right of way. We are not allowed to put signs on the bottom gate which belongs to the neighbouring farmer. Menai Holiday Cottags give excellent directions to the house do they not? Unfortunately guests pulled the tag off the light and damaged the fridge shelf. A member of staff at the agency was following this up I believe. Regardless of all your issues I do hope you enjoyed your stay Thank You Vera Property Owner

"Our fourth visit to the cottage and not our last."
Loved it and the area was perfect for us and our dogs.
-
"Wonderful location, quirky cottage."
Lovely local walks. So very very peaceful away from it all. Hopefully will be back. Very happy.
-
"What an amazing holiday cottage, set in beautiful surroundings."
Very peaceful with plenty of nature around. The cottage is very warm & cosy, especially when you light the log burner, Thankyou for all the wood you left for us
-
"We found our stay in three gates both delightful and disappointing."
The cottage is situated in outstandingly beautiful surroundings, its utterly peaceful and blissfully quiet. The cottage is delightful, however, we did find issues with cleanliness for example, cobwebs where everywhere, there were hairs in the shower tray, the shower doors were dirty. The mattress has seen its day and needs changing, we could feel the springs. We had to shake the bed linen each evening as it was covered in small black bits, not sure if this was falling from the ceiling? But it wasn't very pleasant. The log burner has a hole in the flue which makes for a very expensive stay, as it burns way to fast and eats the logs and finally the rug in front of the fire really needs cleaning desperately. If these few things could be changed/cleaned our stay would of been 5*, it was such a shame as like I say the cottage itself is delightful and where it is is just perfect.
Hi there, Pleased you loved house and location. Sorry about your other issues. If we had been made aware of these we could have made all good. Thank You Vera Was the window open when you had log burner on. This might account for black specs ? Property Owner

"We had an awesome stay at the Three Gates!"
The cottage was rustic and quirky in an amazing location. We were lovely and warm with the heating and stove. The cottage is well equipped with everything needed. Some great walks and scenery locally and not far into Beaumaris. Plenty to do! We didn't have enough time! Thank you...we had highly recommend and return ❤️

"I loved the three gates cottage, could have done with a clean but oh so cosy."
The quirkiness is beautiful, the surroundings are beautiful, the cottage is beautiful, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
-
"A lovely cosy cottage, perfect for us and our dog."
Very well equiped, great having a log burner. Fantastic walks near by. Saw a red squirrel at the end of the long drive to the road. The people living in the next cottage are very friendly and helpful.
-
"Authentic , traditional and beautiful."
Such a beautiful location, so peaceful. There was everything I needed. If you love nature, peace and quiet give it a Tey.
-
"It is a lovely cottage but not well looked after."
SAFETY there is a major safety problem with the log burning fire. The chimney bezel on the fire is completely rusted with more holes in it then there is holding it in place. It is very obvious the the unit has never been safety checked using a smoke pellet as has to be done every year. The beds, I have never tried to sleep on such poor mattress’s. When we sat on the bed there support of the mattress was so bad we sank down to the baseboard of both beds. I think this is disgusting when paying over £130 a night. With regards to cleanliness, the property requires a deep, deep clean. Thanks to my wife insisting we had our own towels, because the provided ones were nothing less to discussing. I can stay in a four star hotel for these prices, will not be staying here again. This is my honest straightforward observation and comments.

"A treat of a place in a lovely area"
-
"A very characterful cottage delightfully furnished."
As remote as the listing suggests. Guests need to be fairly able bodied.
-
"Lovely location, generally comfortable but quite a few drawbacks."
Generally needs a number of things to be fixed - e.g shelves in the fridge, bedroom door latch, fridge light didn't go off. Lots of decorative clutter meant not much room for our stuff. Not very well equipped - hardly any cutlery, only a couple of plates, bowls etc. Hardly any space for food preparation or storage. As mentioned by previous visitors place could do with a thorough clean - cobwebs under chairs, etc. Information about waste collection not up to date.
Hi there,I'm pleased you found cottage comfortable and location great. Sorry to hear about fridge and latch, we would have sorted if we had known. Fridge light has me baffled, how did you know it stayed on all the time ? The dust under the chairs will be removed ASAP. Waste removal is tiresome for some guests, I do sympathise, but alas the stunning location which is off route for commercial vehicles gives us little option for disposal hence guests are requested to take to nearest pick up point. "Lovely comfortable & relaxing cottage, fabulous views and walks, would deffinately book again"

"Another wonderful break at this cottage."
Cosy and comfortable, off the beaten track and perfect for us.

"An absolutely superb place to stay if you're wanting peace and tranquillity."
This cottage is very rustic, basic and original. Really feels like you've gone back in time. A real soul recovering break. Will be going back again many times
-
"Quirky and full of character, Three Gates is a great cottage for a quiet stay."
Only a five minute walk to the Wales Coastal Path. The shop in nearby Langoed has everything you'll need. Highly recommended.
-
"Amazing location and lovely little cottage very well equipped would definitely be looking to return."
Only thing I would say needs looking at is an updated log burner.
-
"Absolutely loved it."
Really didn’t want to leave! Gorgeous cottage in a lovely rural location. Couldn’t fault the cottage, the decor was lovely too, and it was so cosy with the fire lit. Very well supplied with kitchen equipment etc. lovely touch of fresh flowers on arrival. We took our dogs, lots of good walks on Anglesey. Red Wharf beach isn’t too far, and is a lovely sandy beach. Will visit again.
-
"What a wonderful stay we have just had."
Vera is so helpful and friendly and the cottage is perfect. Even in bad weather its a perfect place to stay. We had everything we needed there and I wouldn't have changed a thing. Stunning walks and views from the minute you step outside or, if you want to spend a day inside, very comfortable places to relax and read or in my case, knit! Thank you Vera, it was a fabulous holiday
-
"After 3 years of not being able to go to our favourite holiday destination because of covid, we could make it this time."
Thanks for your patience Vera. The cottage was in a nice quiet spot with birds and red squirrels. The surroundings were beautiful especially on the coast. We walked stretches of the coast path. The weather was good. Just a pity the cottage was not that clean. Cobwebs everywhere. The cottage needs a good cleaning and some furniture could do with some replacing. But we had a nice holiday.
Dear guests, I am surprised to read your feedback, given I found the cottage had been left in a terrible state. The sofa and table need specialist cleaning. You left very late, left piles of washing up and mess everywhere. I am actually lost for words. " Property Owner

"Another lovely stay at Three Gates and it won't be our last."
Love the secluded nature of the property, the drive up to the cottage adds to the effect. Very comfortable and lovely wood burner. Plus our dogs made very welcome. Thank you and hope to see you soon
-
"A picture perfect cottage providing everything we needed."
Actually more spacious than anticipated it was a beautiful place to stay in a location that was surrounded by stunning views. We found the cottage inviting, homely, comfy & very warm. Having two large dogs with us we often struggle to find firstly somewhere that allows them both and secondly somewhere where there is room for them to have their beds in the same room. We enjoyed fabulous weather during our stay so did not need to light the wood burner however had we needed to, the living room was large enough for both our dogs to lie in front of the fire. This cottage is secluded and quiet especially if you get lucky with both neighbours (which we did). Understandably it can be quite dark inside having few windows but there are ample lights all over which we found added to the beauty of this cottage. Nothing negative to report. We loved it.
Dear Mr Simmons Thank you for your great review, I love it too Please come again !Vera Property Owner

"I absolutely loved it here."
Came away to work for the week and it was just perfect for that. It has everything you need for two (or maybe two and a little one). Great location- a short walk to white beach.
-
"Had a lovely stay, nice and relaxing."
The only thing I would ask is that the trim around the cooker was loose and sticking out Coughton me a few times, the 2 sun loungers 1 was that mouldy I wouldn't go on even if it was covered by a towel and the other was stating to tear. I would definitely recommend this property if the little things were fixed
-
"Very rustic cottage even down to the dusty cobwebs."
Finding the rubbish bins down the lane through three gates then having to take key back through the gates to cottage. Took our rubbish home with us.!!
-
"Wonderfully located holiday cottage."
We managed walks to all points of the compass in our week long stay. Penmon Priory and Point are easily walkable for those residents who are reasonably fit and active. We didn't quite make it down the steep last section to Llandonna/Red Wharf Bay but hope to do so the next time.. the walk to wonderful Beaumaris is a much more gentle affair. The fairly regular no. 59 bus can also take you there and bring you back, should you wish. The cottage itself is very comfortable and the decor is so tasteful. The cleaner informed me that the myriad of ceramic swifts or swallows on the wall and one corner of the kitchen ceiling are all hand made by the owner. Marvellous. The furnishings completely suit and complement the age of the property. Like with many properties of a similar age and style, considerable care has to be taken to avoid banging one's head, particularly where the bedroom conversion means the roof slants steeply away. The only difficulty we had, and ordinarily this wouldn't be a problem but during our stay my wife had to submit a very important piece of academic work online, is that the internet connection kept dropping out. Devices were still connected to the Wi-Fi, but only switching the router off and back on again re-established the connection. We had to do this a number of times. The civility and helpfulness of all of the local people we met, including the cleaning and caretaker staff, was very heartwarming. Overall, an excellent place to stay!

"Perhaps consider a 5ft bed as current one is a squash for two adults ."
A new mattress would bring comfort score to max .
-
"Loved the location and quirkyness of the cottage."
Will certainly look to re-visit.
-
"Cosy cottage in beautiful location ."
Woodburning stove much appreciated . .Enjoyed walks right from the door and trips further afield .
-
"The occupants of the next cottage let their dogs poo everywhere and not clean up, cottage could be cleaner"
-
"The property is very characterful and cosy."
We enjoyed the peacefulness and dark skies. Ability to walk straight from the door to the coastal footpath. Everything provided for and lovely and warm with the log burner. We really enjoyed our holiday with our collie Jess. Madeleine and Bernard.
-
"So glad I didn’t allow the mixed reviews to put me off."
I really enjoyed the quaint cozy characterful cottage. Great location perched on top of a hill. It potentially could be a 5* stay. It was however in need of a deep clean, I dropped something behind the bedside table & toilet both of which were really dusty with cobwebs. The sofa smelt of wet dog. There was a cracked bowl & mug. The edging of the kitchen work surface was loose. The lock was very stiff and I was locked in on several occasions. The garden is perfect for viewing sunset but was in need of a good tidy. Vera was attentive and accommodating and I wouldn’t put the above off me rebooking or recommending the cottage.
-
"Lovely cottage and perfect place to relax!"
Thank you very much for a very cosy and welcoming atmosphere!
-
"Lovely, quaint remote cottage."
A little difficult to find, especially as we arrived in the dark. We did try all 3 phone numbers provided but couldn’t get an answer from any of them. We did find our way eventually, and the track leading up to the property was extremely challenging! Just glad the snow had gone, and we didn’t come in our other car, as we wouldn’t have made it up the track. But, once we got to the property - what a warm welcome! The fire was lit, perfect for a cold December evening. The property is really quirky, but a little tired in places. And could have done with a more thorough clean throughout. The shower isn’t great, and the beds are very small. But, the location, and everything else is perfect. All in all, a lovely short break. Perfect for some quiet and nice long walks
Dear Guest.....Thank you for your great comments in the guest book. Apologies no one picked up the phone when you were unable to find the cottage ? Yes, a long period of severe stormy weather has resulted in the track to the cottage being more difficult to negotiate we will most certainly attempt to improve access as soon as. Following a recent agency visit we believed cleaning to be satisfactory however we will check once more. Really pleased you loved the cottage and look forward to you visiting again. Property Owner

"This cottage was dirty."
I cleaned all plates etc before Using them the furnishings were tired and the spare bed looked thrown together with broken slats. Cobwebs everywhere and general dirt .towels that were given smelt musky.i feel as covid is so prominent now that the cleanliness should have been much better.its a shame that this cottage was as bad as mentioned as it could be a little gem if it had refurb.skyes had emailed me prior to my stay as I had been concerned as feedback left had said it was unclean but skyes promised that it would be clean on my arrival. But no sadly not up to basic standards
I am sorry you found standards of cleanliness unacceptable and have tried to contact you to identify specific areas of concern without success. The cleaner and local laundry would appreciate you contacting us if at all possible as we are keen to improve standards. We are committed to giving our guests a truly enjoyable holiday without any issues. Property Owner

"The cottage was quaint and in a quiet secluded location."
Access would be difficult without a 4x4 vehicle particularly in wet weather. The property was an ideal size for 2 people plus dogs but the proprty was tired and furnishings were sparse as regards comfort in the living room. The tendency to use old distressed cupboards was overdone and the bedroom lacked storage space. We kept our clothes in a suitcase and bag as it was difficult to open the big heavy drawers. There was no wardrobe just exposed rails. The small double bed was too small for 2 adults to share in comfort. The shower water pressure was poor and would be unpleasant in cold weather. There was no dustbin outside unlike the property next door and guests were expected to take bin bags in their vehicles to public bins quite a distance away with the risk of the bags bursting. These faults can easily be rectified cheaply and the property reach its potential.
Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately neither the local council or refuse collection services are prepared to collect waste from the cottage or the Mill next door, hence guests are requested to take their rubbish to the nearest drop off point. The cottage is advertised with 2 single beds and a 'small double on request', there is insufficient room for a wardrobe and the large pine drawers are to help alleviate storage problems. Thank you for the lovely message you left in the guest book. Property Owner

"Lovely cottage ."
..was slightly unsure from the pictures wether it would be too small, but was a pleasant surprise. For a couple it's perfect , more room than expected and the setting is idyllic. It's a quaint, rustic and warming property that's lovely to come back to. Bonus is that there is a fantastic pebbled cove housing White Beach just a 15min walk through the fields and deserted country roads on its doorstep. Highly recommend.....it's a wonderful get away from it all place. Rustic and charming and would definitely stay again . P.s.........don't worry about the track to get up to it, you don't need a four wheel drive, no cars in or out had any problems. It just adds to the charm

"One of our most enjoyable stays in a holiday cottage."
Fabulous setting for remoteness and watching sunsets, also practically on the Wales Coast Path for walks to Red Wharf Bay in one direction and Penmon Point in the other. Old cottage with very good heating and hot water, large fridge/freezer and surprisingly good internet connection. It didn't bother us but we can see why some reviewers have commented on cleanliness. Much of the furniture is antique/vintage and many of the cupboards/drawers/shelves, etc in the property are either too cluttered with old stuff or not really clean enough for eg clothes, etc. To us it was rustic and charming and what you might expect in a remote location. The drive is fine for all except the most low-slung of cars. Beware the very sharp slab on the LHS on the bend just after the junction where you turn sharp left - it could slash a tyre. Keep in the ruts, ie in the centre of the track and you will be fine. We will be returning here.
-
"Location ideal but fixtures and fittings old and tired especially sofa."
Cottage was very dusty and needed a deep clean. Cottage smelt stale and musty and could not clear the smell.
-
"The cottage was quirky and delightful, the downside was it was not clean, the shower room was disgusting, cobwebs were plentiful, dust everywhere, mould on wall, smelt of damp, material stuff up against a door covered in cobwebs and dirty, metal strips on sides of oven kept falling off."
The track to the cottage really should be pointed out that you defo need a very substantial vehicle. The outside was scruffy, weeds, garden seats falling apart. We were asked to leave the cottage clean, it certainly wasn't presented to us as clean. This is such a shame as the potential for the cottage to be stunning has not been exploited.
-
"Absolutely loved it!"
It’s a little vintage cottage in an ideal location. We loved our stay! We had fresh flowers in vases on our arrival and the views were spectacular. The added bonus were the sheep, lambs and cows all close by and it was a really wonderful experience. We will definitely be returning.
-
"Three Gates is a lovely peaceful cottage with beautiful views and close to the coast."
However the description was less than accurate. Access is indeed via a farm track but a 4x4 vehicle is essential to navigate the track to the cottage. Anyone in a standard family car may well struggle to reach the cottage and this should be made clear in the description. The cottage had all the facilities you could need for a holiday but some were in need of replacement. The shower was difficult to use and the "eclectic mix of furnishings" prevented adequate cleaning. The property was very dusty and some furnishings very worn and dirty. The photos on the website show bright and airy accomodation but the cottage is quite dark inside as would be expected of a cottage of this age. It would benefit from a declutter and an extra small sofa since the seating in the living room did not really provide for a comfortable evening of relaxation. We did enjoy our time in this beautiful part of Wales.
-
"We absolutely loved the cottage and had a fantastic weekend."
The cottage was well-equipped in great surroundings and had lots of character. Close enough for a nice walk to the beach. (about 25 mins). Hopefully, we'll get chance to stay again sometime in the future. Thank you Jonathan & Paul Addy-Armitage
-
"Had a brilliant time at the cottage, no complaints as everything was as we expected."
Anyone wanting a beautiful little cottage isolated and also with a ten minute walk to a hidden gem that is white beach, I would recommend.
-
"Lovely cottage in a peaceful remote setting."
Because of the isolated location would benefit from a house name sign at the first left turning in the woodland track, would be difficult to find in the dark if you hadn’t been there before. Otherwise couldn’t fault it, the perfect cottage hideaway.
-
"We had to leave two days early as it was so uncomfortable."
The beds were very uncomfortable and one had the slats sticking out. The settee was very poor also as were the 2 wooden chairs,we could not get comfortable the whole time we were there. It wasn’t very clean especially the shower. We left early Wednesday as we were aching everywhere. It was a beautiful location but was spoiled for us,it could still be rustic as rustic doesn’t have to mean no comfort. It needs new beds and new settee and chairs in living room.
I inevitably find it hard to work out 3 gates feedback ! I love it, some guests love it, some not and unfortunately you fell into the latter category. Laura Ashley sofa, antique Welsh lambing chair and old elm Windsor plus 8 cushions Upstairs 'Heals' beds old but stylish. Maybe something more 'run of the mill' next time. Vera Property Owner

"Perfect cottage, cosy and comfortable, dog friendly, the three gates added to the charm!"
-
"Had a wonderful break at 3 gates."
It's a complete get away from it all, yet close enough to visit beautiful Beaumaris, Menai Bridge, Benllech. The cottage itself is so unique, full of interesting nick-nacks. Very comfortable for 2 people.
-
"Communication from booking to arrival was perfect and straight forward."
.. cottage was just perfect, we had read the reviews and were prepared for the narrow approach and three gates to open and close , watched by the local sheep community!! Cottage was very quirky and eclectic.... reminded me of the film the holiday !!! Well equipped and cozy place to relax away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life :) My hubby and little pooch Olly had a wonderful time exploring Beaumaris, red wharf bay and Rhosneigr...a shame that some beaches don’t allow dogs between may and September, but there’s plenty of coastal walks to choose from and it would not stop us returning ... would highly recommend this cottage and Menai holidays, thank you !!!
-
"A lovely 4 day stay at Three Gates."
Lounge area could do with another comfy chair as the additional seating were two hardbacked chairs. The walk to White Cove Beach from Three Gates is longer than stated, would take a good 20 minutes plus. A shame that they were an abundance of sheep which was unfortunate for Lola our Cocker Spaniel, as she had to be on the lead. Enjoyable holiday.
-
"Gorgeous location as described and did not disappoint."
The cottage on the other hand was in need of a full clean. . The furniture was very eclectic and suited the cottage however the sitting area lacked comfortable seating to suit 3 people and could probably do with another armchair instead of hard upright dinning chair. Loved the concept and history but just needed it to be cleaner to suit my expectations.
-
"Absolutely beautiful and tranquil location , nice décor ."
Brilliant base to go exploring , lots of wildlife to enjoy ...the weather was perfect . Many thanks for a great break , Billy The Springer dog had a fabulous time ..
-
"Lovely cottage great location - the trip up from the gates was fun"
-
"Amazing little cottage, very comfortable."
-
"A great little cottage, beautiful setting & so peaceful"
-
"This is a wonderful little 'Getaway from it all cottage'."
There are walks on the doorstep and views of snowdonia from the field behind including Puffin Island. If you like castles, lighthouses, windmills and beaches... Anglesey is definitely the place to go...
-
"Basically lovely, comfortable and well presented."
However a few feed-back comments. 1. No potato peeler No oven gloves. No pan scrubber. No bread bin. No trays. 2. No inventory list. 9 We could have brought bath towels instead of having to buy them ) No instructions for shower. ( button inside compartment doesn't turn the shower off ) No instructions for frig. ( not cold enough ) 3. Cobwebs and spiders to go with them. Dirty pans. ( we did a bit of cleaning ) 3.
-
"Great location for this quirky full of character cottage !"
Very quiet part of Anglesey yet so near Beaumaris and a short walk to lovely White beach ! Had a lovely peaceful relaxing break with stunning weather as well ! Sadly and all too soon our holiday was over so will look forward to booking again in the near future !
-
"Nice cottage."
Great location.

"Was a good little cottage but just a bit untidy around the garden area and bot ..."
Was a good little cottage but just a bit untidy around the garden area and bot enough comfortable seats to sit on downstairs
-
"Adequate for our stay, everything we needed supplied."
Difficult to find the property, instructions on location need to be clearer
-
"The cottage is in a great location, totally away from it all."
We were however slightly disappointed with the overall cleanliness of the property. We also felt the cottage wasn't as well equipped as we had come to expect, there was only one wine glass and no pint glasses. There was no Vegetable peeler, serving spoons or Potato masher but was full of tapa's bowls! It was frustrating as the equipment that was in the property was of a high standard and good quality.
-
"Lovely cottage."
Access track a bit difficult / overgrown in places but well worth the effort. Such views and so peaceful. An absolute joy to start our married life.
-
"Great location, nicely furnished and perfect size."
-
"Lovely well thought out decor, nice get away from it all!"
-
"There was lots of dog hair all over the bathroom and in the bedroom which resulted in us having to take all the bedding outside and shake it and buy anti-hystamines."
I understand the cottage is dog friendly but the cleaners could have ensured all the dog hair from the last stay was cleaned up for us. It wasn't very pleasant. The cottage itself was lovely but this put a dampener on it.
-
"Wonderful, remote cottage set in an area great for walking."
-
"Great value for money, lovely cottage with many more things included which aren't mentioned on the website eg iron and ironing board, clothes airer, radio, torch and many more including tea bags so you can stick the kettle on as soon as you walk through the door before you unpack and some lovely fresh flowers to great you."
The only thing I would say is all the extractor fans needed a good clean and if the seating area/grassed area to the left of the cottage had been mown and tidied it would have been even better for if we had had the weather to sit out, lots of outside seating was great. Oh also I think the stairs would benefit from carpet but that's just my personal opinion. I certainly don't have any complaints and would recommend without hesitation. A great little find.
