  • "Curtains and blinds need updating and replacing."

Bedding on the double bed upstairs needs replacing so boobly and well used its uncomfortable on the skin. Layer of dust on the heater in bathroom and dust under furnishings. Table cloth in kitchen is ripped in several places. Could be an amazing place if updated. Highlight of the place is the covered hot tub.

  • "I was disappointed when arriving that the photo did not reflect the true size of the properties frontage,(was much smaller than expected, looks a lot larger in photo)."

Had problems with accessing the key safe, would buy a new one if mine. The cleanliness was not as good as expected, the ingress of woodlice of all sizes on a daily basis was off putting as was finding dead carcasses of same in all rooms downstairs which shouldn't have been there if a thorough cleaning had taken place. The divan bed downstairs was not connected together and would come apart at the slightest touch and reveal that cleaning of underneath had not taken place for quite some time. The mattress of the divan bed downstairs was very hard(like sleeping on a plank). We opted to use just the lower floor because of the location of the bathroom. The heating instructions for use was very misleading,it mentions the main control being adjacent to the family bathroom upstairs, took some time to understand how to use the radiators.(No instructions for these). Our pets biscuits were in a bowl in the kitchen and these were coated one morning with slug or snail slime as was the cloth it stood on,could not find the culprit but there was a large gap in the corner where the kick boards should meet. Sorry if my comments seem harsh and negative, but I think the property owners should be made aware of these failings.

It is difficult to reconcile this feedback to the last feedback received only a few weeks ago. Mr Gibson failed to raise any of his issues (too many to list…) whilst at the property so gave us no opportunity to deal with issues he perceived. The cottage is exactly as represented in the photos advertising it. We hope it is a comfortable home with good facilities ( as reflected in the previous review). It is not a 5 star hotel! • "We stayed at Rhiangwyn cottage over new year."

The cottage is a good size and the kitchen has everything you need. The bedrooms upstairs are lovely. Unfortunately we couldn't use the shower for the last few days as the cable box started smoking quite aggressively so we had to turn it off at the fuse box (we did report this and the house manager made sure we were OK with the bath). There is also seems to be a woodlouse problem, there were dozens of them downstairs and quite a lot of dead ones under furniture and behind the TV stand. The back door of the property doesn't close properly so the hall is always freezing cold meaning we had to have the heating on frequently. The mattresses could really do with toppers and the one downstairs needed to be flipped as stated on the label as it was dipping but was better when turned over and a topper was added ourselves. The mattress upstairs is extremely loud. We were also left with the wrong greeting booklet (for the house next door) so we didn't really have much information about hot tub maintenance etc. I think with some maintenance this property would be really lovely but we are a bit disappointed overall

If you're looking for a place where you can hear the silence than book this cottage . LIio was always only one phone call away ,she is so lovely and to every enquiry I had she replied straight away, now if you're looking for 5* hotels don't go there as you obviously have to clean after yourself, yes you have to wash your cups for your next use ...BUT if you're looking for silence, village atmosphere, nice walks and 5 mins by car to the nearest beach than THIS is the place We really enjoyed being there for Christmas and we'll definitely be back in the summer

From walking in to getting use to the working of the property We were really happy. Look and you will find any slight blemish but hey we are on holiday so get on with it. All items needed were there it was well equipped. The furniture was very comfy. The bed was really nice and a good nights sleep was achieved for our next day of adventure. The shower and washing facilities were first rate and looked fairly new. Hot tub was there if needed I used it once more for curiosity I liked it. Had a couple of bad stormy nights so had trouble with I T V television programmes. Bbc was great. All clean linen and towels and bedding. All in all no problems a great holiday was had in Anglesey what a great Cottage. Thank you the owner Llio and also great communications.

  • "The cottage is tired and smelt strongly of dog wee both inside and outside on the decking."

We moved the rug which stank, and the floor underneath was filthy. The bedroom floors were filthy under the beds. The Wi-Fi was mainly nonexistent, and having contacted the number we had, who told me she was the cleaner, and been told to reboot and keep rebooting, we gave up after 2 days. The lights upstairs in the bedrooms and the heaters were all switched on when we arrived. The kitchen was well equipped though the oven was disgusting so we did not use it. Would not stay again or recommend it to others. Neighbour told me that many visitors this summer told her how it was not cleaned properly. We only had one large towel each and one hand towel in the bathroom. No floor mat.

I noticed the upstairs bedrooms have new beds too. It was clean throughout, there were towels on each bed on arrival and the beds were made. We even had a little welcome pack on the table waiting ☺️ a short car journey away from a beach, not too far away at all. The hot tub was actually warm and ready to use when we got there! Kids loved it.. ha The only thing I personally wasn't keen on, and that has absolutely nothing to do with the cottage or the owner, the spiders are absolutely huge!!! I nearly cried

The attention to detain is lacking with cleanliness dust cobwebs on all the downstairs door frames and pictures the rug in the living room was the gift that just kept giving lots of nice and not so nice treasures came out of it there was chewing gum everywhere in the rug under the edges of the table down the side of the sofa under the edge of the sofa . There was mold in the shower corner needs real attention and tge flooring at the door way going in sinks and needs repairing . The back yard was an issue all you can smell was dog wee and the smell of the oil tanks , there is a hot tub which is a nice touch but you couldn't sit out in it with the smell it did pour down on the Saturday night which which took alot of the dog smell away but still the smell of the tank . Unfortunately due to the lack of sleep me my husband and daughter can home on the Wednesday evening my in laws did stay on till Friday morning but they had a much better sleep in the single beds . It can be so much more it does need updating even matching furniture in the living room needs some paint work touching up the kitchen has everything you will need . It its really windy the window frames howl they just need re sealing . And please dial down the wall art and vases with artificial flowers they really arnt needed and the metal art work are just dust collectors . The leaflets on the table need updating some were there from 2017 since then places have closed and prices have changed updating . Unfortunately by leaving the property early would speak volumes if we had a great night's sleep and the smells outside wouldn't of been there we probably would of just over looked all the other bits and just passed them off as things just missed , please take on board what customers are saying we can't all be wrong oh and please have a separate hoover to leave in for people to use as the one under the stairs was left full and smelt terrible .

Thank you for your comments. We take constructive criticism very seriously and look to use this as a means of improving our service. We have asked the guests who have followed you staying in the cottage for their observations on this review and these are included in our response below. Taking each of your points in turn:- Mattresses The two double mattresses referred to in your comments were both installed just over two years ago. Mattress comfort is a matter of personal preference, and the vast majority of guests have not felt the need to comment. Our guests this week say “Upstairs double mattress comfortable. Downstairs double mattress - we’re sleeping in there at the moment and its not stopping us from getting any sleep but the springs are noisy.” Living room rug Our housekeeper cleaned this rug on changeover and did not see chewing gum. Our guests this week say “No evidence of chewing gum that we can see on the rug, table or sofa.” Shower Our guests this week say “There is some slight evidence of mould in the shower on the sealant”. We recognise that this is an occasional issue with showers and will deal with it. Bathroom floor The bathroom was completely refitted in early 2022 and a new floor was put in as part of this. Our guests this week say “The floor in the bathroom does creak as you walk in and the lino flooring is at a slightly lower level than the corridor laminate flooring” Outside smell Of course, if guests let their animals wee on decking, there is a risk of lingering smells. We will always seek to address this, but the housekeeper did not notice any smell on changeover. Our guests this week say “No issue at all with any smell outside. We’ve sat in the hottub each day without any problems” Decorating As with any home, we do undertake a regular cycle of redecorating, but inevitably there may be some marks that will occur from time to time. Our guests this week say “there are some scuffs around which could do with a touch up of paint” Windows This observation about windows rattling is not one we have received before. Our guests this week say “Not noticed any issue with the windows when its windy, and Saturday was VERY windy here”. Wall art and artificial flowers Clearly these are a matter of personal taste – we get very little specific comment about these. Our guests this week say “The artificial flowers and wall art are obviously personal taste but the flowers are gathering a bit of dust.” We will address this. Leaflets Inevitably leaflets fall out of date from time to time, but these are only one mechanism for finding out what there is to see and do. We provide an information pack full of useful information and recommendations. Other observations We are pleased that the guests were generally satisfied with the physical facilities provided, a fully fitted kitchen, smart TV, high speed internet, hottub, BBQ etc. Property Owner

The hot tub was very much appreciated. The only down side was the comfort of the two double beds and we suspect that the mattresses may need renewing. We appreciate that bed preferences vary but we found the mattresses didn’t provide us with a comfortable sleep.

Thank you for your feedback. Both mattresses are around two years old, and since this is the first comment about the mattresses for some months, I think this is most probably down to personal preference. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely weekend away here for my sons birthday."

It has a very comfy, family feel to it. Reading past reviews I suppose you could say it was a little dated but didn’t make any difference to us - we didn’t book a 5 star hotel so didn’t expect one. It was in a lovely surrounding area, local amenities were all within a reasonably close distance, gorgeous scenic walks, beds were very comfy, everything you needed in the kitchen - utensils, pans etc and even a microwave and a dishwasher! No issues with the tele and couches were comfy. I like the fact it’s quite open plan downstairs so whoever was in the kitchen still felt part of anything going on. Hot tub was a perfect addition! Loved being out there, especially in the dark colder weather. Everything was clean and tidy and it was exactly what we ordered. Will be looking to book again.

  • "I’ll start with the positives about the cottage (Location, Peace, Hot Tub) The cottage is ideally placed at the north end of the island, which was great for exploring."

A previous review mentioned Church Bay being not so great and though there isn’t much there, when the tide is out the there is a great little beach, especially if you have a four-legged friend with you. The cottage itself is close to a main road but set far enough back for you not to really hear much from the traffic (which isn’t exactly heavy anyway). The view from the back of the cottage is great and the peace and quiet was amazing and welcomed too. The big bonus is the large hot tub, which we (me in particular) made great use off. It’s under cover so even sat out there in the rain one afternoon. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end I’m afraid because, just as a numerous previous reviews have mentioned and not taken on board, the cottage is dated, tired and in need of some TLC and a deep clean. The pictures on Sykes are a tad misleading as they were obviously taken some time ago starting when you pull onto the not so large drive (might be a problem if you have multiple cars) as most of it has been cut out now and the garage walled off the main part of the property. The drive was full of weeds, the front door damaged and filthy, the pretty window flower boxes empty! Windows all round were filthy too. Same with the rear enclosed area, again pictures no longer a reflection of how it looks now. The barbeque tray and grill missing, decking in need of clean to remove slippery algae, walls need repainted etc. Plant pots full of weeds, faded plastic plants and broken – not the pretty area in the photo Inside I’d say the cottage has most things you need but again so much is a dated mismatch of items, a lot of which need replaced especially the beds and the worst bedding and pillows I’ve experienced in a cottage (I’d advise taking your own pillows to be honest). The mattresses are uncomfortable, duvets pretty useless and as the instructions said we had to strip the beds we used before leaving we were privy to the ruddy great stain on one of them. The wall mounted fire didn’t work, as mentioned in another review but in all fairness the other heater did (we only used the lounge and kitchen one) I think that, reading the reviews the cottage was probably lovely some time ago but ongoing neglect had left it feeling drab and tired – A paint throughout out of season, tidy the front and back areas u[ and replace the beds and bedding and it would bring it back up to a decent standard. All in all, I wouldn’t stay there again but value for money, location, hot tub, peace and relaxation then maybe consider it but just be aware it is not as portrayed as per the photos and does need that care and attention to bring it back up to spec

The Cottage is not a brand-new propertybut its facilities are regularly maintained and updated. In the last two years, two mattresses have been replaced - people have very personal views on mattress comfort which can't all be satisfied. Last Autumn the bathroom was completely renewed, and last year the hall stairs and landing were repainted and recarpeted. A new cooker was fitted earlier this year, and last year a new tumble dryer and a new smart TV were put in the property. Earlier this year, super fast internet was connected - we have had some teething issues with this in the summer, but it was working during this guest's visit. Outside, the area around the hottub was refurbed, and the decking was completely replaced last autumn. Taking the specific comments in turn:- Drive This has always been the same size, and is adequate for one vehicle of any size,. By the side of the cottage there is plenty of further space for parking. The area was weedkilled earlier in the season, but we will ensure that more frequent weeding is undertaken in future. Front Door The front door is entirely functional and has suffered only very minor cosmetic damage. Window boxes These were planted out earlier in the season but having suffered from the heat and dryness of the summer, have been tidied and emptied. Outside at the back As commented above, much work has been carried out at the back, so it is very difficult to understand this guest's negativity. A new barbecue grill is available by the hot tub close to the barbecue. This guest obviously missed this. As with all comments in this review, none were raised during their stay. Beds and mattresses See the comments above on this subject. Bedding, pillows etc are renewed regularly. As commented above, none of these 'issues' were raised during the guests' stay. Please note that the guests staying in the cottage in the week before rated the Cottage as 100 out of 100. Frankly, we do not accept the majority of the comments and fell that they do not at all merit the claim for 50% refund. Property Owner
