  • "We loved being at the cottage, it provides a huge amount of indoor space, it’s a step back in time, quirky, cosy place to be."

We loved sitting outside early in the mornings with our cup of tea looking over the fields and onto the beach, while our 3 dogs explored the garden. The cottage is minutes away from the beach which was perfect for our 3 collies. The owner was lovely and very helpful.

  • "It is a beautiful cottage in a good location and had warm and homely feel with some lovely features and facilities We were a party of 5 ladies and while double rooms always are a bit of a challenge, the rooms in Buck Cottage were big enough and great for putting up a camping bed in each."

We had 3 dogs with us and the outside was secure and made it easy to be outside with them and supervise our dogs. A few things of concern: While we fully understand it was the end of the summer season: It could have done with a bit of a good fettle The start of hand rail, at the top of the stairs is quite low down and we had to support one of our older party with this, as she was concerned she might fall. Perhaps this could be mentioned in the information or the hand rail be ajusted a bit. More information in the Cottage book about how to work the TV and especially the heating would be good please. However regarding the heating we contacted the number provided and although this was very helpful, we were not sure about how to manage and to turn it off Before we went I communicated that we needed to take 2 cars with us, and asked for advice about this before we went, but didn't get any communication regarding it until a few days into our holiday. We did find a way to sort this ourselves but it was a bit stressful to start with.

thank you for your comments, Unfortunately I received absolutely no communication re parking and the details do clearly state parking for one car ? The handrail has been in place for a good thirty years and cannot be raised as the ceiling height in an old stone cottage makes this tricky. I will ask the agents to refer guests to the photographs. I am not sure what you mean by 'good fettle' ? can you explain. Abi said she spoke to you perhaps you mentioned somethings to her ? The instructions for the heating are inside the folder and I believe Brian our caretaker did assist ? The TV is new and I thought straightforward, however I will definitely check it out asap ? Thank you for drawing my attention to it. All in all it seems you enjoyed your holiday. good news indeed. good wishes Property Owner

It was really comfortable, extremely well equipped and obviously well cared for. You wanted for nothing. The garden was glorious and safe for the dogs to explore. It also provided the most beautiful views of the bay for us to enjoy. We loved it here and found it hard to leave. The locals were kind and friendly too. All in all this is definitely somewhere we want come back to.

Lovely view across the fields down to Red Wharf Bay particularly from the summer room and also from the patio. A one mile run down the road to the beach or a footpath accessed from Pentraeth. Comfortable sofas. Some of us liked the firm beds; I would have preferred a mattress topper. We tried the immersion heater the first morning to heat up the water but it did not seem to work, however by various tweakings of the Rayburn we got hot water. Good sized bath, and electric shower worked well too. We were blessed by the first heatwave of the year - temperature on Anglesey was just right! Would love to stay in the winter and light the fire! Bottom line: we would stay again!!

When we arrived, on the hottest day of the year so far, the heating was on full blast in every room, the place was unbearably hot. No problem turned off the heating as per the instructions. The heating would then not turn back on. So tried to contact the maintenance person as per the instructions. No response. Left a message, no call back. Just as well the weather was warm really. Lovely cottage, nice views, road was a lot busier than expected, but that's not the fault of the cottage. Cleaners could do with stepping up a notch, as people before us had left messages in the very thick dust in the fireplace areas! However clean where it matters.

Pleased you loved the cottage. Unfortunately the caretaker didn't turn down heating on leaving prior to your arrival and received no call when you had difficulties turning it in again. I could have helped ? The dusty logburner will be dusted asap Thank You Property Owner

The cottage was warm, clean and very well presented. Fresh flowers were unexpected but appreciated. The cottage is exceptionally well located with a short 10 minute country walk to the beach, which can be seen from the sun room at the end of the house. We couldn’t have asked for more and already looking at booking for later in the year. If there was 1 downside, it would be the ongoing construction in the garden. I wish we had been forewarned. It did turn the garden into a bit of a building site. No idea what is being built but, if it’s as good as the rest of the cottage, we are going to be in for a treat on our next visit. Overall we were really happy with our holiday cottage and have shared the details with friends and family Thank you all.

Beds are very hard and bit uncomfortable, at least for us. Garden is not dog proof and as they had lambs right by the fence I was not willing to test if they would go into the field. But overall we enjoyed our stay and would return if the garden was secure as made it difficult with 3 meduim sized dogs. They do have a small paved front area that was secure and would be fine foe smaller dogs.

The fire was a struggle and didn’t stay lit no matter what we did to it . It would be wonderful in summer and a beautiful home , we stayed 1 night as we were too cold tbh and came home early .

Dear guests,I am sorry you found the cottage cold. Having cleaned the cottage I turned the Rayburn down as it was extremely warm inside. There is a dial as per the instructions that needs to be turned clockwise to increase heat and circulate hot water round rads. There is an electric heater plus and a regularly used multi fuel stove. Rayburn/ Aga ranges are extremely popular in the countryside.Perhaps a phone call to either the agent or myself with future issues ? After relighting Rayburn it made no difference had to boil kettle to washup, immersion heater did not work. kitchen smelt of oil and when sitting outside. The kitchen wood tops did not look well maintained and need refurbishing. No cupboard space for storage. The wood burner area had not been cleaned, with empty wood bags, dust everywhere. The steps leading from lounge to kitchen had a slip mat which did not work and felt dangerous. The shower was difficult as situated at opposite end to taps and had to stand right near end of bath where it curves up, very uncomfortable. Steps down to back garden very precarious stepping onto one small loose slap built upon lower slabs that were also loose. The garden was wild but not with flowers, it was overgrown mess with stinging nettles, ivy and weeds. One side of parking area had stinging nettles and overgrown bushes made it very hard getting in and out of vehicle without getting stung drivers side. The property has been let down by not giving enough TLC and upgrades within keeping it in with age of property. We left a day earlier, we would have left sooner except for our love of Anglesey, where we have rented numerous cottages in the past but this is the worst one ever. The pictures of property on website were deceptive. The only plus was the view. Mick and Linda

Dear Guests I am disappointed you did not enjoy your stay  The Rayburn was tested 20.05.23 having been serviced by an engineer that week and was working perfectly? I will look at the outside slabs recently fixed again and remove any nettles. Far too many negative things about this cottage which is a shame as the location is good Sykes were very helpful and came out as soon as we rang them to assess the situation. This place should not be listed. The pictures are very different to what is it actually like. We won’t be back

Dear Ms Sullivan, I have returned from holiday earlier than intended, as my cleaner was very upset at having read your comments in the guest book and since published on the https://protect-eu.mimecast.com/s/TwJcCKQQzF2E7zjiM1eGv?domain=website.in essence I can find very little to confirm your comments are true. I have received an email from Sykes who visited at your request which mentions some small untidy external areas etc however no mention is made as to an unacceptable internal lack of cleanliness. They could not smell dog wee it seems. I will update notes to include an emergency contact number alongside other useful telephone number. The heating is working and all other means of heating water e g immersion fully operational. There is a log burner, electric rads to supplement systems. A Rayburn engineer will confirm this to be true. The photographs of the cottage depict the house unchanged externally since long before 1800 and the stunning views to the rear are in an area of 'outstanding natural beauty and therefore remain untouched by law. This is an issue for the agents to review and comment on. I have emailed the agents and requested your contact details in order to suggest an independent body reviews your complaint as it is quite damaging with regard to future bookings and it gives you a legal form of recourse. I am confident this is the best way forward as it will allow us both a satisfactory outcome. I will of course accept their findings and respond https://protect-eu.mimecast.com/s/wAfGCLJJ0CRjByJTqOAz7?domain=accordingly.as to dog poo none of us have pets, I am therefore baffled as to why it was present on site. I have referred this problem to the agents and await advice. I look forward to receiving your details. Have you any photographs to substantiate your claims, they might help me to understand your concerns. Dear Mrs Attenborough,It is fair to say your dissatisfaction took up the whole of my weekend. The call came 5 minutes after your arrival ie 4.05 p.m. The cleaner returned immediately to find no-one in the house and discovered you were on the beach. She walked in through the doors you said were 'painted' stuck ! When you returned, you pointed out to her certain areas,  which in your opinion required attention These were sorted plus she vacuumed throughout,  however she was convinced that regardless you were set on leaving. It seens, bar a kitchen socket and webs all utilities were spotless. Very little was mentioned overall. Some items you photographed we simply could not locate (nor could the agents who visited to check the cottage following your comments). You were offered a second deep clean the following day as you had found other issues which you turned down and as you were set on leaving  I cancelled my visit to meet at the cottage as your departure was confirmed earlier in the day by the agents Alternative accomodation for your party of 4 persons offered by the agency was then deemed unsatisfactory by https://protect-eu.mimecast.com/s/iiYSCY55rTLooG0c0tHT6?domain=yourself.you then informed me you were staying !The following day I was told you were staying at the cottage after all but subject to the cancelled clean ( you had turned down the day before) being reinstated plus compensation I offered a goodwill settlement as compensation in full and final to bring this episode to a satisfactory end but it now seems this was not enough ! The proximity to the beach made for a lovely daily stroll, even spotting a red squirrel one morning. The beds were comfortable and the heating so efficent we only had to have it on for an hour in the morning and evening and it was so cosy lighting the wood burner after dinner. However, photos very deceptive. We were a party of 2 with 3 dogs and struggled with the size of the kitchen. No storage for own food. Only seating for 4 in sitting room but cottage sleeps 6 Tight parking for one car. Someone needs to look in all the cupboards and replace old worn kitchen ware. Melted spatulas, frying pan that is no longer non stick (mentioned numerous times on reviews) no small kitchen sharp knives. Pillows old and uncomfortable Yes it’s old and full of character but the garden is a let down. Described as Wild. As Gardners ourselves this was once a lovely garden that nettles, ground elder and brambles have been left to dominate. Not wild in the true garden sense. This is a lovely old cottage that needs a little bit of thought regards what people need during their stay. Replacing old and worn items, very small changes needed to make this a wonderful cottage. Would we stay again, yes

Dear Mrs Babey, Thank you for comments and I am pleased you would stay again. The cottage is advertised as sleeping 5 not 6 and I note you had removed two kitchen chairs from under the kitchen table. The pillows are not old and have protectors on them, however I will double check. Spares are in the airing cupboard. There are 3 frying pans the stainless steel is new and has no non stick coating as a previous guest had mentioned a non stick roaster, all items were pulled out and checked. There are several spatulas, unfortunately I must have missed removing a misshapen,  melted one apologies. Yes the garden is advertised as 'natural' though it is regularly mowed and strimmed I do leave brambles, and other natural plants and mix them with standard garden centre plants. Most guests like this though I am sure some prefer a more formal traditional cottage garden. Its never been that !Sykes do have other cottages which have bigger kitchens but as this house was built in 1600 and originally housed a couple with seven children I am not prepared to extend it. • "The location of the cottage is lovely and very convenient, the local beach is great for dog walking and the woodland is beautiful!"

The house itself is very quaint and the history of it is wonderful. I appreciate there is a cottage aesthetic to be maintained but there are some elements that are in need of improvement. The kitchen cupboards don’t close properly and swing open all the time, the selection of knives to use for cooking aren’t sharp and one has been put back by previous guests and was broken so when I tried to use it almost cut me as the blade bent all the way back from the handle. The house itself was very dusty and there were lots of cobwebs which at this time of year is difficult to prevent but easily solved. My dog also had an allergic reaction whilst we were staying at the cottage that the vet in Aran had said was likely to be dust mites, myself and my husband also had a collection of bites on our ankles and feet from our bedroom (the room nearest the bathroom). The cottage is 300 years old and very charming. The decor suits the cottage but some very small improvements and the renewal of some basic kitchen equipment would make it a much more comfortable stay.

Dear guests, I am pleased you loved the cottage and found it to be charming. The issues you have mentioned will most definitely be investigated ie kitchen equipment was checked by myself Saturday and seemed to be adequate ? The doors do close, promise but as they are original they require a little 'lift into place ! Old age, it happens to us all !As all 3 bedrooms were used am I to assume the problem with the vet diagnosis of mite infestation is confined to thisroom ? Maybe your dog picked up an 'allergy' from the beach or sand flies ? To date we have experienced no problems with mites ?I note you washed all throws used for doggy comfort as I found them outside on the washing line along with cushion covers Thank You Regards Vera Property Owner

Some drawbacks - the cleanliness took the edge off what should have been a great stay. Kitchen: worktops need replacing (warped and uneven). Upper open shelf needs a good clear out/clean (all containers covered in grease/grime, half-used out-of-date salad dressing etc bottles from previous occupants not disposed of). A bit off-putting. Upstairs: cleaners clearly don’t do any checks (two drawers still had grim sweaty sports clothing left by a previous occupant). Rubbish collection: outside bins full to the brim upon arrival, no information about when they’d be collected, didn’t get emptied until day 13 of my two week stay (6 days after I complained) so we had bags full of recycling piled up.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. The owner has noted your comments and will be looking into the issues but is glad to know that the emptying of some of the rubbish while waiting for the regular collection was helpful. Property Owner

The cottage sleeps 6 but only seating for 4 in main lounge area. The Rayburn didnt work even when reset. Overall cleanliness could be improved chairs and cushions were grubby. In the middle bedroom we found a dead bird behind the bedside cabinet which suggests that thorough cleaning isnt taking place. Even with these issues we had a lovely week away and it hasn't put us off returning next year but will be looking for a different cottage.

  • "What a lovely place to stay."

Buck Cottage in Anglesey had so much charm and character. It is lovely to find a place to stay that has such a homely feel. Buck Cottage is on our list of places we would use again for a holiday.

Local pub shop and Chinese take away were all very good if you didn't want to travel far.

  • "Always a pleasure to stay at Buck Cottage which is cosy with the log burner, and light and bright when in the room with the views of Red Wharf Bay."

Well equipped throughout and makes for a lovely holiday in our favourite part of Anglesey.

  • "Buck cottage is lovely and cosy."

We visited at the end of October and the weather was cold, so the log burner was very welcome! Although a little tired in places, the cottage is characterful and clean, with very comfortable beds. Red Wharf Bay is beautiful and there are many more lovely places to visit nearby.

  • "The cottage was perfect, a few minor tweaks and it would be excellent."

The patio doors wouldn't open. The middle bedroom window wouldn't open. The oven needs replacing. There was never any hot water to wash up. The water had a funny taste to it from the tap so we bought bottled water for brews. No can opener. No Hoover. And the seating outside needs updating. Aside from these niggly bits and as well as them I'd still move in tomorrow!!!!!!!! Loved it.

  • "Quirky old cottage which was great to stay in, cosy at night with the log burner on & the views from the back of the property were amazing but the cottage furniture downstairs was very tired & a little ramshackle in some cases also the staircase was loose at the top and not secured in the wall properly!"

Overall given it 4 stars as the good outweighed the bad & location is great - pub up the road was brilliant with great food. Loved Anglesey I do think they charge too much for the hire of towels (£32 for 4) !!

  • "Loved the cottage , but the garden is not dog secure , and the shower over the bath needs a none slip mat , but lovely for a week ."

  • "Gorgeous cottage, bursting with character in a fantastic location with lovely sea views."

The only reason I didn't rate this cottage 5 stars is that the cottage is in need of some maintenance here and there which lets it down. Other than that a perfect cottage.

  • "Lovely cosy cottage, well equipped, and we really felt at home."

A little niggle was the description on Menai rentals they omit to say that to access one of the double rooms you have to go through another double bedroom "with no doors" which was an issue for us, as we had friends staying and they had to stay in the smaller room with a 4'bed!! Also the cleanliness of the cottage furniture was dusty and cobwebs around every room!

  • "It was exactly as described."

Lovely cottage. Great location. If I go back to Anglesey again, which I will, I would definitely book through Manai colttages. Would go back again and most probably will at this cottage.

However we felt kitchen needed updating. Also instructions need updating. Only secure area for dogs was outside the front of the cottage.
