  • "First we had difficulty finding the property."

It needs a sign at the turn off to the property from the road . Had to ring the owner who did come to find us . The barn is in an idyllic setting. Lots of grounds . The grounds are in need of some TLC. Also the inside some TLC We felt the layout of the large lounge needed rearranging . As the fire is at one end . And TV at the other . But having said all that the barn is ideal for two families especially with children who would love the grounds . We saw red squirrel rabbit and an owl . .

Huge space for 8 people. Double bedroom and shower room at one end. The other end has a king size bedroom with en-suite downstairs as well as a separate shower room, a twin bedroom upstairs as well as twin beds on mezzanine and also a separate toilet. Large kitchen which is a great space to eat and play games around the 8 seater table. Living area with two seating areas and open fire. Lovely decking area and enclosed garden - perfect for our dog. Very helpful owner who lives adjacent to the property but you hardly know he’s there. 20 mins from the stunning beach at Newborough. Lots of supermarkets 10 mins drive away.

  • "Very Damp, Very cold, mouldy, dirty, damp beds, smelly old pillows, tv not working at all during stay, had to get owner to fix wifi, outside of the property very uninviting, no sign from the road- very hard to find, damp matches, damp wood- had to buy own matches and wood to get a fire starting."

The worst accommodation I have ever been in. Website says 3 bedrooms, there are 4 - listing is inaccurate.

It would have been beneficial if you had brought these issues up during your stay. The only thing you did ask me to fix was the Wi-Fi, which had recently been knocked out during one of our many storms. The password had been reset to the original factory setting. Damp wood and matches? Odd, as I always provide coal and firefighters, and any kindling I do leave is never damp. I find it quite disappointing that you didn't bring any of these issues up during your stay, considering you had my phone number, and I live but 100 yards away. The TV was connected to the internet and was only down while the router password issue was sorted. I mentioned that to you after I reset the password. Again, if the TV were down, it would have been no issue for me to come around and explain that it was fine now that the internet was back up and running. I would have been more than willing to address any of these issues. Given how uncomfortable your stay seems to have been, I do find it a little surprising that you didn't contact Menai. • "Old Barns is a beautiful building in a gorgeous setting."

The house is large and spacious yet warm and cosy, thanks to the aga and open log fire as well as ample central heating. This was so lovely to come back to after exploring all the stunning scenery that Anglesey has to offer. The rear garden has great space for eating outdoors and there’s lots of grass for dogs (or kids) to run around. To the front there is a wooded area where we enjoyed watching rabbits and red squirrels, as well as access to the surrounding nature reserve (we found wellies a good idea for this track during our autumn stay). The kitchen has everything you could need to feed a family, and the towels and linens provided were very clean and soft. The decor is in keeping with the style of the property and on the whole works very well. The owner has achieved a really nice lived-in feel which is lacking in a lot of holiday lets. On that note, this isn’t a pristine, like-new property, so may not be suited to those with very demanding standards on cleaning/upkeep. If the odd dusty shelf or stained carpet is a no-no for you then this probably isn’t your cup of tea. Personally I would also advise the owner to replace the mattress I slept on (the double bed furthest from the kitchen) but I understand that mattresses are a very subjective thing and others may find it more comfortable. In any case, it certainly didn’t stop my enjoyment of the weekend at Old Barns.

Thank you for your feedback, and I am glad you enjoyed your stay. I am sorry about the Bed, if you had let me know while here, I would have come looked, and sorted it out; after you left and we did the change, I noticed that the slats on the bed frame on which the mattress sits on had bunched together and slipped off the guide rail that supports the slats the mattress sits on. I've had this issue once before, sorry about that, but it's in the notes now for the cleaner to check it every stay, as it's something that will happen over time if unchecked.. As I said, I am sorry about that. And Hopefully, we may see you again. Property Owner

  • "Great week!"

Vic was very helpful. The barn is bigger than suggested by the photos. Plenty of bathrooms and toilets. The track down to the barn is rough but passable. It’s fine if you have a 4x4/SUV but take it slowly with a coupe. Wouldn’t put us off staying again.

Thanks for the feedback; glad you have an enjoyable stay. Hope to ee you again. Just a note to other guests: the track from the main road is a rough shared public track leading down to several houses and a 2 couple of holiday lets, once you arrive at the entrance to my property you continue to the barns on a tarmac track. • "We wouldn't rate it as a 4 star plus, it was very dirty with cobwebs all over the cottage, lovely big windows but so dirty as never been cleaned."

Really disappointed with the back garden as we had a small dog and the grass was taller than her so we didn't let her out, the security of garden is very poor anyway she could get out. owners dog tried to attack her on first day, we did tell him and he did keep his indoors, but just sort of said they are dogs! Master bedroom no wardrobes and the most uncomfortable bed with metal bit sticking thru. Kitchen was poor on cooking utensils like pans and plates. Curtains need to be fixed as hanging off. The heating was supposed to come on early evening and it never once came on, we where able to light the big fire at our expense which was lovely in the evenings, but it didn't heat bathrooms or bedrooms. Also half the lights need new bulbs which we did tell owner but he was not going to replace bulbs at all. Such a shame as such a lovely area and if these things where addressed it could be lovely.

Hi, sorry to hear you had such a bad stay, If I may start with the dogs, Skye is a rescue dog and is well used to dogs; in fact, most of my guests have dogs, and Skye is fine with them. She is very well-trained and has a friendly nature. As soon as you arrived, you informed me your dog didn't get on well with other dogs, and your dog immediately growled and started barking at Skye; dogs being dogs, no harm was caused to either pet, and it was no more as I say than dogs being dogs, with all due respect Skye is a well-socialised dog, several guests have asked whether they could take her home with them. As for the cleaning and cobwebs, I am so surprised you didn't bring this up with me or at least contact Menai to complain during your stay. If you had of mentioned it to me, I would have rung my cleaner and had them back to address any issues that you had found. The house is well equipped to meet the demands of large families, I must add this is the first complaint about the lack of pans etc, in fact, quite the opposite again with most guests happy with the facilities the house has to offer. As for lighting the fire at your expense, I provide a big bucket of coal for two fires, a huge basket of kindling, a box of fire lighters and matches. I do this every single change over, no matter whether summer or winter. There was also wood in a box in the garden for the outside fire pit. Finally, regarding the Master bed, again, this is the first time anyone has complained and again, in fact, that the Sleigh bed in particular, people have remarked how comfortable it is. I will check to see if there is any 'Metal' sticking through, and again I am at a loss as to why you didn't call me during your stay to point this out, I'd have addressed that straight away, shame I wasn't informed of this earlier. However, I've bumped into the current guest a few times now while walking our dogs, and they seem content and know if they have any issues, I am 2 minutes away next door and will always do my best to make holidays here comfortable ones. Thanks for your comments. I am sorry you were so dissapointed Property Owner

  • "OldBarns is just a beautiful place to stay, and it's so much bigger than the photos."

The property is very spacious for eight guests, and it gives you the feeling the owner has really thought about his guests having a relaxing time. The property backs on to an RSPB site, which just enhances the already beautiful tranquil spot the property sits in. We were all so delighted with our very lucky find, we kept talking about it for the whole week we were there. The owner, Vic, really wants his guests to be happy, he was very attentive, kind hearted and at the end of the phone for anything. I loved watching all the birds in the garden, and the dawn chorus was glorious. There are beautiful bluebells and primroses in the gardens and lining the verges of the track down to the property. We will definitely return. We didn't do all the things we wanted to do around Anglesey as we loved hanging about the house and gardens so much. Thank you!

Thank you, It makes me happy when guests appreciate the wildlife the Old Barns grounds offer. Stoats, resident Red Squirrels, Rabbits in the back garden, again a resident Tawny and Barn owl. Walking the tracks of an evening is fun with the Bats, which will swoop right down above one's head. Evening time you can also hear the gravel on the drive clicking as Toads and Frogs make their way down to the wetland on the reserve. I am, as I say, glad you enjoyed the stay, and it sounds like it was a homely stay, and that is what the Barns are all about, feeling at home and close to nature. Property Owner

A fantastic outdoor space ,with decking and large table and plenty of seating, where we were lucky enough to enjoy eating outside in the sunshine. I will pass the comments about the cleaning on to my cleaner; it's a shame you didn't mention this to me while you were staying, if there is an issue with the cleaning, I would have gladly got the cleaner back to rectify any areas she missed, however, I do check after every clean and failed to notice the issue with the 'Higher level of cleaning' needed that you speak of. He even gave me a home remedy for my chesty cough! The barn is very big (well- to what we're used to anyway!). We went for Christmas. There was a roaring fire on the go, a beautiful Christmas Tree, a piano, there was everything that we needed. The kitchen was perfect for the dogs to rest, with the Agar on constantly they were so comfortable, and with lovely walks close to the barn as well as the beach just a short drive away - they had a great break too. I agree with some other previous comments, if you're looking for pristine 'show room' decor then maybe this is not the place for you - however, if you like a homely, comfortable and a large space that is cosy..a place that has everything you need without feeling too scared to touch anything, AND with red squirrels in the garden...then I'd highly recommend the old barns.

  • "The building and property itself were beautiful and looked amazing from the outside however we were really disappointed when we looked around."

The furnishings nothing like the photos at all. The ornaments, pictures and lamps had all been replaced with different items. The sofa in the TV area was broken at the back and the curtains throughout the property were falling off the hooks. The place wasn’t clean with cob webs and dirt around the rooms. I’m pleased we had no one in our party sleeping upstairs because there were dead flies around and the beds and chairs were horrendous. Definitely not as advertised. The towels didn’t match and were old and hard. On a more positive note the kitchen was a great size and the garden was great for our dog however he did manage to get out but luckily it wasn’t the field with the sheep in and he came back when called as we never left him alone but being a typical Springer spent time in the bushes. This place has so much potential and could be absolutely amazing. It needs a major clean, and new furniture and a new bathroom down the old end as it is very old and not very welcoming.

Thank you for your comments, however, It is a shame that during the week when we met you never mentioned any of these issues. I am sorry about the dead wasps, they weren't flies, I had the week you arrived had the pest control out to deal with a wasp's nest and they were casualties from the pest control, again something I would have remedied immediately. The curtain hooks are wear and tear, something I have since addressed, the metal hooks can become loose over time and detach from the wooden curtain rings. Some of the furniture has changed over four years but once again this is due to wear and tear and things being replaced over time. The bottom shower room had a brand new shower fitted a few weeks ago and it not being the main bathroom is much smaller than the main shower room. I am sorry you were disappointed with your stay and it is a shame you didn't bring these issues up on the several occasions we spoke as I would have endeavoured to put things right for your stay, especially the dead wasps. Although clean bedding and towels were provided it would benefit from a deep clean as furniture was quite dusty in the place, the kitchen tops were sticky and crockery dirty. The images need updating as it shows a large field, which in part drew us to the property as wanted somewhere for the kids to run around but this is no longer included. The track down to the property also has some large pot holes so if you have a low car you are likely to damage the underneath. The owner was lovely and friendly and helped sort any issues quickly.

There is a twin room and a cloakroom upstairs. The garden is fantastic!

Open the doors of the sitting room and you can walk out onto the decking where you will find garden furniture.

Sit here and enjoy the peace and quiet of your surroundings with a cuppa, or a nice glass of wine.

The lawned area is great if you have children that want to let off some steam where you can keep an eye on their adventures. Typical of many of our rural properties, access to the cottage is by a rough track. The house is based around a gravel courtyard, and its large windows make the most of the views out over the fine Anglesey countryside.

The house is so well suited for large groups and families with a number of places to relax whether it be in front of a roaring fire, basking in sunshine or escaping in the gallery.

The kitchen is superb and has so much space that you will be able to cook a feast and still have room to sit around and chat.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.
