  • "Family trip to Snowdonia for the weekend."

We were 12 people including children. Lovely ,clean ,spacious , well equipped cottage - including, tea, coffee ,sugar iron with ironing stand ,hand wash in the kitchen and all the ensuites . Welsh cakes and a cake were also provided in the kitchen . All bedrooms were ensuite. Plenty of space for all of us with a nice big dining table in the kitchen to accommodate all of us. The owner was very nice and gave me instructions on the phone re how to find the cottage but unfortunately we still got lost . We arrived very late but she was awake and guided us to the cottage. Location was very good with a short drive to mount Snowden and Zipworld. Piggery Pottery was on site and the children really enjoyed spending a few hours painting some pottery. I would highly recommend this cottage if you are planning a visit to Snowdonia.

We picked a bad week as it was constantly raining and windy, but nonetheless we made the most of it.. It was a bit cold in the lounge as it is such a big space. What kept it cold was that all the radiators throughout the house need bleeding as they were only warm at the bottom.

We regularly get together on reunions as we were at colleges together some 55 years ago. The stay at the Barn was very successful and we all enjoyed ourselves greatly. The Piggery Pottery was enormous fun. There were, inevitably, the odd niggle such as the 'sharp kitchen knives' which weren't! This has been our experience just about every where we have stayed, however. Barbara was a perfect host and sorted all our queries. Would thoroughly recommend a stay here.

Caernarfon is only 10 mins drive, Llanberis is only 5 mins away. As this is part of a working pottery, there is a wonderful shop selling Barbara's works of art, and allows you to paint a pot on the premises, or take 1 home to paint with the free paint kit. Everything in the barn was in great order, and the lit wood fire really made the evenings, even more special. I would like to thank Barbara for her help, and do really recommend this property for a true family get away. Thanks.

One of the two ovens did not work. The shower in the main bedroom leaked through to the utility room. The kitchen utensils were nearly useless and needed urgent replacement. We tried to contact the owner, but got no reply. Generally the place gave the impression of being grubby, and in need of a complete refresh. We would not go back unless these points were addressed.

The living room and kitchen are huge and would suit 1 large or 2 small families. 5 bedrooms with 3 doubles , 2 singles in another room and a room with 4 bunks. The area is fabulous but I would imagine in summer it would be too busy for some. Owner lives on site but leaves you alone. The barn is on a main road but you can't really hear the traffic. We took 2 dogs who loved it though we did have to drive a couple of miles for their morning walk but this was on the side of a lake ! Fabulous.

Barbara was more than accommodating to us offering early and late check outs, and a late night session at the pottery if we wished too. All bedrooms well equipped with en suite bathrooms, lounge was plenty big enough for party games and as a communal area for guests. Such a luxury to have en-suite in every room( the lucky people with the Jacuzzi bath were very impressed!) Plenty of lounge space to all sit comfortably and a well appointed kitchen with a great table for shared meals. Our hostess was really kind, leaving us cakes and milk for when we arrived. Nothing was too much trouble and we loved the pot painting session that we did on Saturday night ...with our wine!! There are not enough glasses for the capacity of 14 although there is plenty of crockery, cutlery and cooking equipment. It is a great space for large parties and having ensuite rooms a bonus. The signage and driveway to the barn isn't lit up at all which makes finding it at night very difficult. I also take a dog with me as this property is pet friendly. I take the dog for walks late at night and early in the morning, and with the driveway not lit up, it makes walking quite difficult. The property is absolutely splendid and kept to a reasonably high standard, if I was to complain it would be the heating of the bedrooms and water isn't good. But I've stayed here before and knew what to expect. The owner Barbara is a very pleasant lady who wants to make sure you have a good stay. I have stayed at this property twice and would do so again. About the location

LLANRUG

Llanberis 2 miles; Caernarfon 4 miles; Betws-y-Coed 15 miles.

Llanrug is a small village with two pubs, two shops, a Post Office, a hotel with indoor swimming pool and fitness room, and a 9 hole golf course is nearby. The village is situated in the foothills of the Snowdonia Mountain Range, only 3 miles from famous Llanberis. Dominated by the grandeur of the Snowdon Massif, Llanberis is flanked by two lakes, Llyn Padarn and Llyn Peris, and is one of the most popular mountain tourist centres in the Snowdonia National Park. Llanberis is something of a 'mecca' for walkers and climbers, being the starting point for the ascent of Snowdon - the highest mountain in Wales. The ascent can be made either by train, on the Snowdonia Mountain Railway, or on foot along one of the many routes to the summit. Llanberis boasts excellent places to eat and drink and a great choice of shopping. Just 4 miles from Llanrug, on the coast, is Caernarfon with its magnificent 13th century castle and town walls and close by are National Trust properties at Penrhyn and Plas Newydd and many wonderful beaches.
