"We enjoyed our stay but the property doesn’t seem well maintained."
A few if the hot taps were exceptionally tight and one of tge baths leaked when emptied. The back door needed replacing. The small downstairs bedroom needs more storage and a mirror near socket. It was homely and comfortable but a bit tired.

"A lovely house for a great family stay."
My 4 boys booked this for our birthday weekend with their partners and Milo dog. Fantastic accommodation. Everything we needed. A lovely welcome pack. Very comfortable beds with feather duvets and pillows. Lovely fresh bedding and towels. Bathrooms immaculate with copious hot water. Kitchen had everything we needed. 2 massive fantastic catering frying pans for cooking up a breakfast for 10. Brand new range. Central heating and boiling hot water made the house more than cosy. Gardens and views amazing. Short walk to the beach and great gastro pub 5 mins walk. Thankyou for a great house that we enjoyed as a family. And enjoyed the history of the house and family.

"Hi.I need to make a complaint about the property I have stayed in called Plas, rhoscolyn from the 20th til 27th September."
There is lots to complain about! Riddled with damp, water running down interior walls, flooding kitchen when using dishwasher, downstairs shower won’t work (my disabled mum could not shower all week) windows don’t open which is a huge fire risk! Has to be illegal! Some of the taps in the bathrooms don’t work, the smell of damp is ridiculous! Urine stains on carpets just left! Floors are ridiculously filthy! My son has chronic asthma and we have had no end of asthma attacks this week due to the damp,so many so we left early! Our holiday was completely ruined. How you are happy to have this property on your books is beyond me!
-
"House was beautiful but in need of some renovation in areas many of the taps upstairs took excessive force to turn off and on, no keys provided for balcony, quite alot of damp in the upstairs bedrooms."
Wall around the lawn to the rear requires some edge protection or warning of the large fall, no instruction was provided for the heating system and communication regarding any issues with the vendors was non existent other than their initial message.
-
"The property is in a fantastic position with wonderful views and an easy walk down to the beach ."
There is plenty of space for a large group with the family room, TV room and quiet room. Loads of room outside and very safe for the children and the dog. The building itself is very quirky and the kids loved exploring all the rooms. They did though find the access room with a ladder to the turret, which was not very safe. There was a lovely amount of hot water so everyone could shower when they wanted. The beds were very comfortable with good quality linen. Also plenty of towels . The building itself is tired and needs some thoughtful maintenance. For example the carpet gripper at the entrance to the kitchen sticks through the worn carpet and could have hurt bare little feet if we hadn't covered with a mat. We notified Sykes that the main oven didn't work the day we arrived, although we received an acknowledgement, no action was taken while we were there.
-
"Great location, interesting house with lots of history surrounding it."
Amazing selection of books to browse through. We had fantastic weather during our stay so the garden area was a great plus. Overall the house is a little worn and some rooms would benefit from some refurbishment to offer more comfort to visitors.
-
"Very poor communication during stay."
Numerous phone calls to 2 different phone numbers for help with problems were unanswered. Furthermore website not working to report issues. WiFi code in handbook incorrect. House was cold and your maintenance man did not resolve the issue. Should have been supplied with a basket full of logs. Very few logs provided,

"Plas is the most beautiful house in the most beautiful place."
The house has wonderful old panelling, lovely stained glass windows, warm, loads of space, plenty of loos, very important - genuinely would sleep 10 with ease (the most we ever were was 7) the bedrooms are all big, stunning views from the bath, and enough room to eat and cook too, place to leave beach and fishing and walking clobber. It needs a little bit of cosmetic updating, sitting room carpet, (please don't take out the beautiful door latches), I left a list of niggles in the housekeeping book, but it is well equipped and we loved it.
-
"We had an incredible stay at Plas in Rhoscolyn."
The owners of the property were very accommodating during our family holiday. The grounds of the house and huge space inside was fantastic for all the family to feel comfortable and the views to the see were spectacular. We would love to stay again!
-
"Great!! Loved the new decor"
. Well equipped with plenty of hot water! A bread bin please!! As ever the 9 am leaving time is a nightmare. We worked flat out to tidy, strip beds etc and only managed 9.25am. It was very annoying that there were no cleaners in sight. 10.00 would have made for a relatively relaxed departure.
-
"We had an amazing time."
Loved the house. But all was spoilt by the pressure to be out by 9am. How can 10 people possibly be up,showered, breakfasted, beds stripped, fridge cleared, waste disposed of and cars packed - by 9am???
-
"A beautiful relaxing stay again in Plas ."
Fabulous house which is ideal for large families and pets. I love the library which is peaceful and snug with the real log fire. Views are stunning and is surrounded by magnificent places to walk. The white eagle pub is only a 5 minute walk and the beach only 10 minute walk. We will definitely come again.

"Wonderful wonderful house and gardens with spectacular views The house ..."
Wonderful wonderful house and gardens with spectacular views The house welcomed and nurtured our family of five adults and five kids of various ages and dogs We couldn’t have wished for a better place It was a real wrench to leave
-
"The accommodation was excellent, comfortable and welcoming."
The facilities were very good. Minor problem was the TV was difficult to use but otherwise a wonderful house.
-
"Fantastic location, comfortable homely house ideal for five couples."
Easy walk to beach and White Eagle pub. It would have been good to have lighter weigh summer bedding, especially as some of the bedroom windows don’t open. We had a problem with a blocked drain but this was dealt with promptly with good communications
-
"Plas was absolutely lovely… just as described and you wanted for nothing, the house is very well equipped."
The location is great, with a pub a minutes walk down the road and the beach also within walking distance. The house is spacious, comfortable and clean. You can’t access all of it, for example the balcony, but I’m assuming that’s a health and safety issue. It had no negative impact on our trip. My only issue was the check out time of 9am… we arrived at 4pm on Friday and had to check out by 9 on the Sunday… an extra hour would have been welcomed but we had fun all the same!
-
"Absolutely fantastic house, great accommodation!"
We loved the location and large gardens, with the beach and pub just a short walk. Would highly recommend the property.
-
"Great place for a memorable family or group holiday."
Very comfortable and well equipped. Amazing views and lovely local walks nearby .
-
"We thought the house was excellent could do with a bit of decor upgrade but great house Only one negative was 9."
00 o’clock check out found to be a bit early
-
"Property was great only one issue was teh heating system had a noise issue that seemed to appear late at night."
The noise was horredouse and only sssmed to be eleviated by switching off the heating system
-
"My friends and I had a lovely stay in the beautiful house."
The living room was so cosy with the log fire on and the bathrooms were amazing. We will definitely be booking another holiday there. Just two little things though if you could provide more toilet rolls and provide firmer pillows? These are only tiny things though. Many thanks for the welcome pack And letting us stay in your fabulous house.
-
"A fascinating place to stay."
Full of character and even more interesting on the inside than the outside. We stayed for two windy and rainy weeks in January and enjoyed it immensely invigorating cliff walks etc. For a big place it is really cosy inside especially in the lounges with the wood burners. Looking for an excuse to return

"I don’t normally respond to feedback requests, but I emailed Menai a month ago to express my concerns and as they haven’t troubled themselves with a response, I’m publishing them here."
We love the house, it has great sentimental importance to us (we hosted our wedding reception here in 2016 with a marquee in the garden), however, I don’t feel it’s being particularly well looked after and that aggrieves me. Before we arrived, in fact when were in the car on the way there, Menai called us to tell us there were challenges with the central heating - that the radiators would need turning down as the heating was on constantly. We accepted this - the electrician came on the Saturday (we haven’t noticed a difference). However, this is but one of many problems, that indicate that the property is simply not being maintained adequately. This list is by no means exhaustive, but in the time we were there we identified - - Extensive and significant peeling of paint across the house and in numerous rooms - this damages the atmosphere (I’m sure it’s obvious why) - instances of black mould, most notably and particularly in the back toilet downstairs beyond the utility room - this is a health hazard - the shower in the back of the property hums loudly like a steam train when it’s used - this means we can’t shower once the kids are in bed - the radiators by those back bedrooms hum loudly in the middle of the night , this has bothered me as I’ve tried to go to sleep and I think woken one of the kids up over the weekend - the signal to the sky box is not tuned in properly and on a quiet night with little inclement weather, the system cut out repeatedly (this is the only TV in the house and so with small kids, that can be a problem) - we found a number of radiators with their thermostatic valves taken off (I couldn’t reattach them) and so the heating for these radiators could not be turned up or down - the sofas (which are the same as were here in 2016) are clearly very ‘well loved’ and are screaming out for replacement. The cushions are threadbare (which you must know as they have loose covers), the back of one has a large hole in it - some of the mattresses have clearly enjoyed long and illustrious careers and are in need of retirement - the springs offer little to no support and in one of the double beds, the mattresses are so worn that they are no longer the same height (the middle double bedroom over the back door) - the Bath which overlooks the parking courtyard has a dangerous fault - when the water drains from it, it leaks down through the ceiling in the kitchen, down the wall and onto/into the plugs/light switches above the dishwasher and drenches the floor - this could cause a serious electrical problem. The water isn’t draining properly, that bath cannot be safely used until a plumber has stopped the leak - the back door leading out of the main living room does not meet fire regulations - there is a ‘knack’ to unlocking it, which we can usually manage. However, if we had to manage it in a fire, I wouldn’t bet my children’s lives on it. That lock absolutely must be replaced now - the door handle for the back door has rusted off - we have found the odd stain to the carpet, not the end of the world but not the right ambiance either - some of the towels had stains - in truth, the internet is too slow for the devices of 2022 - the window of the ground floor bedroom is closed only by a single hand latch - this is not secure and to me represents a security risk I sent clear photos to Menai of many of these concerns. We love this property, it pains us to see it falling into disrepair. However, the listing and the condition are not as consistent as they should be. I told Menai about this by email on 19DEC22. I’m writing this on 14JAN23, as at now, they have not responded. I rated myself as unlikely to recommend Menai because in my list of concerns are two serious safety concerns and they have seemingly done nothing.

"An absolutely amazing house with lots of."
Space and room. Super comfy and great facilities.
-
"What an amazing house!"
We had a fabulous time. The house was spotlessly clean and there was a complimentary welcome pack which was lovely. The character and charm of this house is fantastic and you really do feel like you’ve been transported back to another era. There was everything you’ll need for an amazing holiday, thank you for having us!
-
"Lovely place to stay, great location, amazing house, well kitted out."
It was a family holiday with 9 adults and three under 3s, we all had a fantastic time. If there is any improvements they would be minor, slightly more toilet roll to be provided and to have dishwasher rinse aid and salt available.
-
"We had another wonderful week at Plas and have booked to return again next year."
It has a cook’s kitchen, plenty of space and comfortable beds. We noticed an improvement over both housekeeping and maintenance compared with our previous visit. It’s a great base for walking the coastal paths and for spotting wildlife. We had a couple of very enjoyable meals at the White Eagle. It ticks all the boxes. The 9 am departure time is a bit painful - another hour would be appreciated.
-
"Truly beautiful and magical place."
The house was so much bigger than expected. The surrounding area is magnificent, perfect for lots of walks. The gardens are perfect for dogs and a lovely country pub is only a 5 minute walk away. The beach and cliff tops are only an 8 minute walk away. The locals were very welcoming at the church which again is only 2 minutes away. You will need a car to get to any shops or Trearddur bay, which is well worth a visit for the beach and restaurants. Only downsides where that we was unable to use the main log burner due to the glass being broken in the door and a 2nd tv would be helpful in such a large house.
-
"The house is set in the most incredible location, the views are stunning, perfect for families or large group of friends, fantastic walks and multiple, amazing beach coves accessible straight out of the front door and a great pub literally across the field."
The house itself is the best equipped holiday home I’ve rented in regards to the kitchen, the welcome basket was packed full of goodies. There is a fabulous history to the home and it has beautiful period features. My only gripe is that it’s in serious need of some tlc and an uplift which a home of this calibre needs. We as a family loved staying so much we even viewed a property in the area for sale, if this one ever came on the market we would jump on it.
-
"We was extremely happy with the property It had lots of character."
The Garden and the views were amazing Loved the complimentary tea coffee and biscuits. Was cleaned to a great standard when we arrived. Lovely location, Will definitely book again
-
"It is a beautiful house and much bigger than we expected."
The house needs a lot of TLC (mainly the sofas in the main room and carpets throughout). Also would have been good to have been able to open more windows. There was also a leak from the bathroom into the kitchen above the dishwasher. I also think that the arrival and departure times are crazy. You effectively only have 6 days but are paying for 7 as 6.00 pm is far too late for check-in especially if you are traveling a long way. And 9.00 am too early to leave! All that side I would recommend the house and may return at a later date.
-
"Beautiful old house with spectacular views."
The interior furniture and carpets were tired and could do updating. Paint peeling from the walls in numerous rooms but on the whole a good weekend.
-
"Thank you so much!"
We couldn’t have asked for more! The house was beautiful! Equipped with everything we needed. It was clean and fresh and the welcome tray was thoughtful and welcoming. The access key was easy to locate and the car parking was great and made it easy to load and unload the car. The house is beautiful: the decor perfect; we especially loved the painting and photos of the house and surrounding beaches. The garden was fantastic and felt safe and secure. The views were incredible! Thank you so much for sharing Plas! It was my son’s 21st and sister in laws 50th birthday celebration weekend! The atmosphere in the house felt, happy, cosy and inviting! For such a big house: it didn't feel cold or spooky :) Hopefully we will visit again one day! Thanks again! X

"Could do with a TV in main lounge."
It was too late to go in to the property and too early to leave!!!
-
"Fabulous property in amazing location."
Children loved the two staircases. Plenty of space and lovely garden. Good beach and pub all walkable.
-
"We can only say that everything was just perfect."
the house is a beauty, with breathtaking sights, clean, warm and very comfortable. We will repeat soon, I hope!
-
"It was a most enjoyable ,comfortable and memorable stay for all my family, children & adults ."
The property is very spacious and extremely well equipped. Located in one of the prettiest areas of Anglesey and a short walk to a gorgeous sandy beach where we swam (January !)played rounders and tag. There are great walks in all directions from the property and a fantastic pub to visit on the way back ! Many thanks, Mary

"Great stay overall."
The central heating seemed to be on a timer which we couldn’t change and there was electric heaters dotted around so made us wonder if it was quite old and wasn’t working as it should. It was warm in the main lounge/ kitchen with the fire, however our group had small babies with us. 3 under 1 and it was very cold in the night, we slept with our baby in the bed as I felt it was too cold in the room for her in her crib so that wasn’t ideal as we wouldn’t do co sleeping normally but I was worried about her. The weather was relatively mild too over new year so it could have been a lot colder. As adults under the sheets though it was fine! House is a good layout for big group and well equipped, everything you need in the kitchen to make meals. A little tired here and there furniture wise but comfortable and cosy, we had a great stay and there was lovely views and walks from the house. We really enjoyed our stay overall. One thing to note if taking young children, the walls are thick stone so the signal on baby monitors is very weak- all 3 different baby monitors had this issue so they had to be left in the hallway and we had to keep going out frequently to check the monitors so harder to relax in that sense. Would return as a group of adults but perhaps not with younger babies unless in summer when it wouldn’t be cold. Nice welcome package on arrival! Great to read about the history of the house, house is very spacious too.

"Beautiful house."
It was spotless. Great location. It would help to locate the house if there was a sign near the road.
-
"I'll start with the only geniune complaint we had."
The strict 18:00pm entry time needs sorting, especially as with our winter booking you've lost daylight before you arrive. That said you know you're on to a winner when the only fault you can find is a lack of pint pots to poor your bottle of real ale or draught Guinness in to in the selection of glasses. Plas was the ideal accommodation & base for my 50th birthday weekend with friends, chosen in part for it's proximity to the White Eagle where the food on Saturday night did not disappoint. My partner & I then spent the rest of the week exploring the island, had a walking day up Snowdon & even a drive down to Portmeirion which was in easy reach. Really liked Plas & wouldn't hesitate to go back again some time.
-
"A comfortable large house which is great for a group of friends."
We were 8 all over 70. It is generously equipped. Small housekeeping issues were sorted promptly. On a clear day the views are sensational. Lots of walks from the house to the beach and cliffs. And a great pub round the corner. Yes would really recommend the house. For the less mobile there is a downstairs bedroom but it is a high bed and a low lavatory. Just workable for me!
-
"Lovely big old house with lots of character in a great location."
However, there were a few unwelcome and unexpected issues. Firstly the fridge and freezer in the utility room were filthy and I mean filthy, we had to thoroughly clean and disinfected both before they could be used, not something you want to start doing to that degree, especially when you could only check in at 6pm. The settees in the living/ dining room were dirty, old and uncomfortable and needed replacing a long time ago, along with the stained carpet. Some TLC needed in this lovely old house. All that said, we had a great family holiday and could have stayed longer.
-
"Plas is a lovely house for a large family gathering with breathtaking views over Rhoscolyn."
My only problem was the thick duvets with windows that don’t open ( awaiting repair since our visit in 2019) so we were too hot at night.
-
"Great house, loved it, thank you"
-
"Beautiful location, comfortable accommodation, comfy beds, powerful showers and plenty of space for the family to spread out."
We were very lucky with the weather and made full use of the lovely picnic table overlooking the sea from where we could watch the jets from RAF Valley. Spectacular coastal walks, great for dogs and we saw plenty of wildlife including seals. One of our party is a keen photographer and got up early to capture the sunrise from a local vantage point. Great to have a gastro pub in easy walking distance. Would love to return.
-
"We enjoyed the cottage."
Our only complaint is that there was no high chair after we asked for one. The large knives could do with sharping..
Thank you for your feedback. We are so sorry to hear that the highchair was not present. Please always call if there is a problem such as this and we will always get it rectified for you. So pleased you enjoyed your stay! Property Owner
-
"Plas is a perfect house for a family gathering; and such a great location with spectacular sea views and a short stroll to the White Eagle."
It is well equipped and was very warm and cosy in terrible February weather. The beds are so comfortable; we have been three times and will be back!
-
"Great house for a family gathering."
Having 3 sitting rooms means there was room for everyone! Great house for hide and seek!!
-
"THIS IS OUR SECOND STAY AT Plas, the scenery is stunning, the house quietly grand but comfortable."
We cooked every night and the facilities were great,we enjoyed the log burner on the October nights and the roaring fire added to the house's charm. My Mum slept downstairs which was perfect as she struggles with mobility, however she found it difficult to get in and out of the very high bed, whilst the mattress was really comfy its height contradicted the nature of an accessible bedroom. Thankyou for the stay, Plas is truly magical.
-
"The shower in the downstairs en-suite was not working."
We had specifically chosen the property for my mum's 80th birthday so she could have a room / shower downstairs. Looking back at previous reviews it is now clear the shower hadn't been working in August and so had not been fixed. Did the caretaker think guests wouldn't notice? When we arrived there was a curtain and pole left on the stairs. We found that one bedroom curtain had come off the wall and just been left. So one room had no curtain all week. None of the upstairs windows opened apart from in one bedroom so no fresh air! Also noted in previous reviews. No instructions for the central heating so we couldn't use it. Other niggles like window blinds broken. For an expensive rental property this was all very disappointing and unacceptable. We rang Sykes Cottages and no caretaker came to check on concerns. (Plumber came and went on Monday.)
Thank you for your feedback and we are sorry you were disappointed. The issue you raised with the shower was not an ongoing one and we are pleased the plumber was able to show you that the shower could continue to be used while waiting for the relevant part to be ordered. Plas is a listed building and remedial repair works have been scheduled for the upstairs windows when the property becomes vacant. Windows can be opened at either end of the upstairs area and fans provided for the really hot weather. Guest feedback is appreciated and all issues checked and remedied. Property Owner
-
"It was generally a nice cottage, but could do with a bit better maintenance."
Toaster and grill not working, shower broken, multiple phone calls had to be made. No instructions on how to use anything, oven knob numbers all rubbed off, wifi not available upstairs. We had our wedding there and quite a few issues with the company subcontracted to deal with the wedding side, to the point that I nearly cancelled the whole thing. Most of the windows didn’t open so it was so hot and no fresh air upstairs.
-
"Could just do with some loungers and bbq for the garden"
-

"Clean period property."
Beautiful features. Well appointed 8 minute walk the the beach. Views fantastic. Building perfectly set up. Towels, sheets etc beautifully clean. Kitchen well set up for professional catering. Two fridges, dishwashers etc. Lots of glasses. The house next door had a passageway to allow residing guests straight through (and could be locked). Really was a perfect cosy venue. Central heating system immense. In winter we really didn’t need to light the fires. Pleasantly surprised in the view of the age of the property and wooden windows and doors.

About the location
RHOSCOLYN
Valley 2 miles; Trearddur Bay 3 miles; Holyhead 5 miles.
Located on Holy Island, three miles from Trearddur Bay, Rhoscolyn is a small village with a church and primary school and is the most southerly place on Holy Island. Rhoscolyn also offers an excellent pub on the lane down to the beach, which is renowned for its gastro food, and the beach itself with its slipway, ideal for small dinghies and power boats, is a popular family destination throughout the summer owing to the sheltered cove and gently sloping sands. Also excellent cliff-top walks can be enjoyed and an abundance of wildlife can be seen, often including seals on the headland. Just two miles away is the village of Valley, which has a Post Office, chemist, shops and eating places, plus the nearby resort of Trearddur Bay is situated on the western shore of the island and is truly beautiful with a great sweep of low grassy coastline indented with rocky coves and fine Blue Flag sandy beaches. There are shops, pubs and restaurants in Trearddur Bay itself and nearby Holyhead offers a wider range of amenities, including a very good leisure centre, supermarkets, harbour front, a marina, the world’s second longest breakwater and exciting day trips to Dublin on the ferry. Watersports, bathing, sailing, windsurfing and horse riding are the main activities in the summer months, plus golfers will enjoy the excellent Holyhead 18 hole links golf course, and the area is also a great place for nature lovers with renowned birdwatching at the South Stack Lighthouse RSPB Reserve. An excellent location with plenty to see and do!
