  • "On finaly getting into the cottage ( the key safe is very dificult to open) our disappointment was immediate the geneal condition of the cottage is very poor, scuffed and dirty paintwork and a musty odour was evident."

The refridgerator door was hanging loose and the oven above the main oven missing, a significant amount of crockery was chipped and unusable and there was no freezer as advertised. The decking was in very poor condition and presented several trip hazards. The mirror in the bathroom had a rusty frame and would not illuminate and the door onto the balcony was jammed and not lockable these are just some of the issues we came accross. On our second night there we decided to light the wood burner, after a short time the room filled with smoke which highlighted a more dangerous issue THE POORLY POSITIONED SMOKE ALARM DID NOT OPERATE and there is no Carbon Monoxide alarm present which is a legal requirment. These matters were reported the next day to Michelle at Menai Holidays. On Tuesday the maintainance man Zebs arrived ,we pointed out the problem with the woodburner which was due to a broken door seal , he told us not to use the burner untill it was repaired. He also told us that the cottage had recently changed owners and had not had any repairs done for some time under the previous owner. No repairs were carried out by Zebs at that time. Due to these issues and the radiators in the bedrooms NOT WORKING, my son and his wife who had their baby and 6 year old with them decided not to stay any longer and left after 3 days. We also cut our break short due to being so disillusioned with the property. I can only summise that this property has not been inspected in a long time as it in no way represents the advertised pictures or description

  • "This property requires some TLC."

The situation is fantastic. The sloping roof means a lot of bending to get into bed. The key bunch may work but we could not find out which did what. There were 2 cracked glasses which were thrown away. The beds were comfortable but the slats in some beds required replacing. There is no freezer compartment in the kitchen. There was plenty of hot water but give it time to come through. There was a lack of mirrors in the bathrooms and the strip light in the en suite did not work. However the holiday was a great success and the position made up for a lot.

  • "The toilet in the bathroom is loose and rocking."

The window is stuck and will not open. The slats in the bed (next to bathroom) had come out of the guide on the side next to door and the fabric restrain is broken. I have refitted the wooden slats. The decking is rotten in places with fixing screws sticking up creating a serious safety hazard. The return spring on the back door handle is broken. The front door lock is difficult to operate on one door whilst the other is solid and will not move. The lower fridge door is loose and its guide is broken so it flaps about. The stairs creak especially the one on the half way down landing. Significant maintenance is required. Overall we had a great holiday probably due to the excellent weather.

  • "Cowie Cottage is set in a beautiful location right on the beach with stunning views and we were lucky enough to get perfect weather."

The cottage it self is easy to find and Rhosneigr is a lovely part of the island. The cottage provides everything you need for your stay with a fully equipped kitchen, extra fridge freezer in the garage, utility room and even sun chairs and kites in the garage. There is ample parking for 2 cars, our group had 3 and managed to fit them on the drive. The beds were super comfy and bedrooms had plenty of space, although due to the slopping roof of the property the beds in the upstairs bedrooms can be difficulty to access for taller people, due to the slopping ceilings, but this is to be expected just worth noting for any future guests with mobility issues. The bathroom and ensuite upstairs were excellent with plenty of room and a lovely roll top bath and large shower cubicals. A separate toilet is also available downstairs. Everywhere was spotlessly clean on arrival and we felt immediately relaxed and at home after a long drive. There are several small maintenance issues throughout the property which could do with attending to although the only one which was really a problem was the decking which has several nails popping up causing a hazard for dog feet and several of the boards were lifting or falling in on themselves causing a trip hazard for the children and elderly guests during our stay. The description of Cowie Cottage states an lawned garden where dogs can play safely, unfortunately the property does not have a lawned area and is completely open with no boundary fencing to keep dogs and children safe from wandering off and it may worth adding this into the description due to the access road just outside for the other properties on the street. Overall I would thoroughly recommend Cowrie Cottage, both the location and the property are well worth a stay. We had a lovely time whether we chose to stay home a relax watching the world go by, time at the beach or going on a day out. The local ice cream shop is also worth a visit! There are several different routes that can be taken for dog walks which include the beach, sand dunes or street walks and our dog enjoyed exploring the area as much as we did and a visit to Newborough Forest is highly reccommened with several walking trails and a chance to see red squirrels it's a dogs paradise.
