The views across Loch Linnhe are stunning and all the rooms were very homely and comfortable, a real home from home and very well equipped. Expect a little bit of noise from the road but it didn’t bother us in the slightest - a really good location between Fort William and Oban, with an excellent Co-op at Ballachulish a few minutes’ drive away. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others. One small issue is that it is close to a busy road, with fast moving traffic. This doesn't spoil the peace too much, but there isn't a front gate, which may be a problem for people with young children. It was okay for us as we kept our dog on a lead, but just something to be aware of.

So glad you loved the cottage and fabulous views Nicky, thank you so much for your recommendation. You are quite right- guests with very young children should be supervised outside as the main road is not far away and as per listing the garden is not enclosed. Kind regards Cherry Property Owner

  • "We had a wonderful week at this beautiful cottage on the banks of the Loch."

The cottage was well equipped and cosy and lived up to its name as we saw otters and seals in the loch. We ate at and visited the Hollytree hotel which was a ten minute walk away along the cycle path and we spent a pleasant few evenings looking for sea glass on the little beach across from the cottage. There is a small tidal rock outcrop a few mins to the right of the cottage along the path where seals and otters can also be seen. Despite the road in front this was a peaceful cottage with fabulous views over the ever changing view as the weather and tide rolled in. This was a great base for exploring the local area and we visited Fort William for the Jacobite train, Oban for a Mull & Iona tour and we also visited Highland fold for ice cream and highland cows which is well worth a visit. Only very minor comment on cottage would be the recycling signage was a bit confusing with lots of it and could do with simplifying. We figured it out in the end and had a fab time and wouldn’t hesitate to come back. Thank you!

Thank you Pamela for a fantastic review. Great that the otters and seals made an appearance! Happy you had a wonderful time in the cottage. Cherry Property Owner

I would particularly like to say how spotlessly clean the property is and how comfortable the the king sized beds are. Our little dogs enjoyed the lovely walks from the doorstep but do bear in mind that the property is close to a main road and the gardens are not completely sealed so supervision of pets is required. The woodburner was great for the cooler evenings but even without, the cottage was warm and cosy. We shall look forward to returning

My mistake? Very dirty but was given £50 as a good will jesture.

I am disappointed to hear that you didn't enjoy your stay at Sea Otter Cottage. However, I wanted to share with you that we take pride in providing a beautiful cottage with excellent reviews from our previous guests. We believe that your review may not accurately reflect the beauty of the cottage and all that it has to offer. I just wanted to clarify that the beds in the cottage are king-size, not super king, and this is clearly indicated in the Sykes advert and my welcoming messages to you. Our cleaner is usually very fastidious and has a perfect score for cleanliness, and we do our best to make sure that the cottage is beautifully appointed, well-equipped, and in a stunning location. We work hard to ensure that our guests have every comfort and a delightful experience, including a lovely welcome hamper. In order to maintain the cleanliness of the cottage, we kindly ask that dogs are not allowed on the furniture or bedding, especially if they have dirty paws. I provided throws that can be used to cover the sofas if necessary, although you did not use them in this instance. Property Owner

Wouldn’t change a thing in the spacious immaculate cottage! Didn’t see the otters but spent a lot of evenings down on the shoreline. Our Sea Labrador growled angrily a few times, at the waters edge, at what turned out to be seals coming to see what we were doing in their loch. Waking to snow on the peaks across the bay was a real treat and the evening orange and pink skies making the bracken look on fire I would never tire of. The cottage was really welcoming and included everything you could possibly need - it really felt like you were coming back home after a busy day exploring. The cottage is on the main road (A838) but set well back and outside of peak times there is very little traffic. The old railway line between Oban and Ballachulish runs parallel to the road and gives the opportunity for walks with spectacular views right from the front door. In the cupboard next to the kitchen the airer was full of towels so it meant we had to take the towels off and fold them so that we could use the airer. We left the folded towels on top of the washing machine. There really wasn't anwyhere that you could air clothing as there was no tumble dryer. In view of the weather in Scotland an airer would be extremely handy. In total we were away from home for a month so we needed to wash, dry clothing and air. The property was reasdonably well appointed comfortable beds ok linen, towels had seen better days. The reception on the television was not good unless you used Raku. We contacted the owner who was helpful via text. Sea View is not a place to stay if you want to use anything other than RAku.

Hi Ken In the kitchen there is a tumble dryer which I bought new last year and there is also an airing pulley. The tumble dryer is next to the oven. Unfortunately TV reception in the Highlands is often not good if you want a remote location. Roku, which accesses many channels via the Internet, is the only option. It is not great for live TV but has many options for Internet TV. Glad you enjoyed the views and other facilities at the cottage. Property Owner

About the location

BALLACHULISH

Kinlochleven 8 miles; Fort William 15 miles.

Deriving its name from the Gaelic Baile a' Chaolais meaning 'The Village by the Narrows’, Ballachulish straddles the narrows at the mouth of Loch Leven. Encompassing North Ballachulish and South Ballachulish, these two villages were separated until 1975 when the Ballachulish Bridge opened. North Ballachulish sits just across the bridge while South Ballachulish lies 3 miles to the east on the southern side. North Ballachulish offers a hotel and petrol station/shop, whilst South Ballachulish has a supermarket, coffee shop, Post Office, pubs, hotels and a Tourist Information Centre/gift shop. Ballachulish attracts many visitors throughout the year and is a perfect base for those wishing to enjoy outdoor pursuits. Ballachulish once had a major slate quarrying operation which continued for over 250 years until 1955 when the quarry was closed and today the old quarries are now being reclaimed by nature and the area is famous once again but this time as an idyllic holiday location. Nearby Kinlochleven boasts Ice Factor, an indoor ice and rock climbing centre, plus Fort William, with the impressive title of the Outdoor Capital of the UK, is situated 15 miles to the north with access to the famous Nevis Range, and Glencoe is within easy reach. With Fort Augustus and Loch Ness about an hour’s drive away, Ballachulish is a fabulous holiday location.
