"Ettrick Cottage, in our opinion, has an excellent location very close to a lovely sandy bay."
It is beautifully appointed, is well maintained and is ideal for a peaceful break. It is difficult to think of anything that has been overlooked by the owners who clearly take pride in providing a lovely home. Robert and Fay.

The cottage has everything you need and should you require anything else, Seamus and Caroline will help you in any way they can. Dog Scooby and the chickens are adorable. I will come back for sure!

"We had a wonderful stay at Ettrick and after long walks returned to watch the abundance of wildlife in the garden, wagtails, pheasant, rabbits and not forgetting the entertaining chickens!"
Caroline and Seamus were superb hosts, available if we needed anything, which we didn’t as the cottage has everything you’d need. Highly recommend staying here for a nice wee Scottish break and the beaches are amazing, a very underrated island.

"The cottage was in an excellent position on the quieter side of the Isle of Bute with several walks from the property, so we had several car free days, which was great."
It had everything a couple could need for a relaxing stay and everything was maintained to a high standard. The description of the bedroom was entirely accurate so important future holidaymakers make themselves fully aware of that before booking.
-

"Beautifully decorated and well equipped cottage in a stunning setting."
Everything was provided for in the kitchen and we loved the well thought out eating area with the comfortable chairs. The lounge size afforded us easily mobility and the additional patio areas just outside we’re delightful. The privacy and tranquility of the cottage meant we had the quiet and peaceful rest we wished for and the location provided us with easy access to the road where we could walk by the bay. We could amble to the little restaurant for snacks whenever we pleased form the cottage or drive to Rothesay in no time at all. We had wonderfully fluffy towels, dressing gowns, slippers , a hairdryer and a very comfortable bed to add to our comfort and we simply can’t wait to return for another period of relaxation in, what is, a stunning cottage where the warmth of the welcome was second to none! Thanks to Seamus, Caroline and Scoobie for making our stay at Etterick Cottage so wonderful.

The property was fantastic and well equipped with fantastic views, the only issue I had was having problems with the low ceiling and steep stairs to the bedroom which I suspected I would but it would not stop me going back , I loved the dog and the chickens they were real characters and it was great to see them,

Friendly and welcoming owners. Clear communication from Sykes Cottages with information and instructions.

"We have had many self catering holidays on Bute but this was by far the best."
The cottage is ideal for two people and is both well appointed and very comfortable. It is well located, set back from a very quiet country road with expansive views over the Sound of Bute towards Arran and Kintyre. Only potential downside is the bedroom which has a low ceiling which could be an issue for taller persons. On the plus side, the king size based is one of the most comfortable we’ve encountered anywhere.
-
"Excellent stay."
Details provided in advance were complete and very useful, especially advice re COVID. Cottage was in a fantastic location, with the hosts eager to provide anything that was missing. It is extremely well-equipped and comfortable and we recommend it highly for singles or couples who want to experience Bute and its quiet side.

"Thanks for a lovely stay!"
The only very minor downside was the size of the mugs - we like big cups of tea :o)
-
"The owners have created a most welcoming cottage, with excellent facilities and a beautiful setting."
I had a most enjoyable stay.

About the location
ROTHESAY, ISLE OF BUTE
Port Bannatyne 2.2 miles; Kilchattan Bay 7 miles
Although its castle dates from the 13th Century, the seaside town of Rothesay became very popular as a tourist destination in the Victorian era when many Glaswegians would go ‘doon the watter’ (down the River Clyde) and across on the ferry to Bute. Today there is much to do and see on this beautiful island which is very accessible by ferry crossing, either the 35 minute trip from Wemyss Bay or else the shorter 5 minute crossing to the north of the island from Colintraive. Visit the castle ruins in the centre of town, enjoy the stunning scenery with coastal walks or on one of the cycle routes around the island and visit historic Mount Stuart House as well as its superb gardens. Why not try one of the island’s three golf courses or chill out at Scalpsie Bay and watch the seals, with stunning views across to Arran?
